Best place ever. Excellent people, service. Best beach. Will definitely return there
Amazing resort with amazing views, clean, staff very nice and friendly. I can only recommend this resort.
It's a great hotel, with big rooms and very comfortable beds. The furniture and appliances are a little big archaic, specially the TVs but it makes no difference when you have an incredible beach, good food and drinks to enjoy. The hotel receives most families, so it's quite tranquil. There was a nice latina party when my family and I were in. It was amazing. We could dance salsa and get to know many nice people that day. The staff is so nice and polite. I love it!
Beach is beautiful, it’s everything what I liked there.. Hotel is old, everything is smelly. I will never forget that smell of the bed and water, it is non-potable, I could drink nothing. Coffee, tea, even juice was with this awful smell.
Beautiful beach but the rooms needs updating. The food was good. It was a ok resort
I didnt like the rooms but everything else was good. I wouldve LOVED to stay there longer
Great place to stay and snorkel at the local reef. Beaches are great as are the staff.
Great food, great beach, not the best level of rooms, some are very scary
The fabric of the building is tired. Some updating is taking place but the embargo is making it difficult. The Cuban people have a wonderful unique quality rarely seen in other countries.
We were their May 2013, Staff were very friendly. Pool and Beach were okay, resort was a little small. Food in buffet was pretty good, Mexican themed restaurant was amazing. Italian was not. And the French wouldn't let my boyfriend in because he didn't have dress pants, only dress shorts.
Rooms were awful, I had allergic reactions every night to the sheets, I am allergic to dust mites and mold so beware. The door stop in our room was missing but their were two nails coming up from the floor where that stop had been. Unfortunately for me, I didn't notice, closet in room opened out right by the main door, I sliced my foot open on it. There is a medical place on the resort, but it closed at 4 and this happened at about 4:30. It was a very deep cut, they had nothing to give me so I ended up having to poor pure vodka on It and patch it with a Band-Aid till they next day. Then was told not to swim for 3 days to avoid infection, and had to come get it cleaned everyday. Even after that I couldn't really swim because it stung when I put it in the water. 2 days after this a man came and removed the nails from the floor.
Overall trip was nice but could have been much better, we probably wont be going back to this resort. Have to say, although not the best resort, staff were some of the best ever, so sweet and saved the trip for us.
We went to this place twice and it was for the beach, food and the staff that is really friendly. If you are on a budget this is the place to go if you ask me.
They just renovated the lobby and it looks really nice but they should keep renovating the rest of the place and update the rooms . Anyway they are doing a good job to keep the place clean, the gardens are well maintained.Pools need some work too,but i am not a fan of, i prefer the ocean.
Food and drinks are ok, nothing fancy.
3rd time in Cuba but this hotel was the best so far. Rooms were spacious and clean. Some work needs to be done to improve the bathrooms but it's what you expect from Cuba! Food was excellent in the restaurants and the buffet wasn't too bad but did get busy at times so was a pain to have to queue up and wait whilst people kept pushing in front of you. The service from the staff was fantastic! Beach was beautiful and plenty of shade and excellent quality sun beds which are brought to you and dusted off. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Cuba!
I was very disappointed the hotel is clean but sadly sad and old and a lot of things not working .i would say this is a three star the food was more like a two star the entertainment boring different shows but the same dance routines I paid nearly £2000 for one person that included a wonderful flight and service by Thomas Cook .The reception staff were rude and if a Cuban came to the desk would be served even though you were waiting the customer relations staff were rude to me and I have been to about 68 countries in the world .Please before booking look at about 100 reviews It is so sad that the location is great .I know of the following one family changed rooms 8 times another 5 and about a dozen at least twice and they never even gave me an option .My sink the water would not go down 5 days they had repair men in then the water would not stay in the sink the bedet was not working water coming through in the bathroom and hallways and not even any gesture of goodwill
Excellent holidays hotel is very nice (not new but very clean). Beautiful beach with plenty of trees and shadows.
The resort employees are extremely dedicated, helpful and always with a sincere smile.
The buffet is good (standard quality). For fish lovers the grilled fish is excellent, always fresh and tasty.
Swimming pools are great.
A place to return for sure .
This hotel resulted from the combination of two hotels, Luna and Mares, which were built about 25 years ago. Situated on a beautiful white-sand beach overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the hotel exterior seems to be well-kept. On closer examination the rooms tell quite different story.
Most of the accommodations are very tired, having supported 25 years of guest use. We rented 3 separate rooms (single, double and two bedroom suite) so we think we have a pretty good understanding of the quality of rooms throughout the resort.
Facilities- Chipped paint, many broken tiles, toilets that have been repaired multiple times and rusted bathtubs & showers all give the impression that this isn't quite up to the experience one had hoped for. Terrazzo floors and spartan furniture support a beach focused visitor model. Yet, all the rooms are in need of significant renovation and I give the room accommodations a C rating.
Food- the food and beverage manager does a nice job of feeding close to 1000 guests. We had good food at the main cafeteria and Cuban restaurant (a higher end ocean front dinner experience). We also heard good things about the French restaurant, but didn't try it. Food includes healthy vegetarian options and lots of fruit (mangoes are amazing). If you want to attend a separate restaurant experience make sure you visit the El Dorado bar in the Luna section between 8:30-11:00 am to make reservations. Overall I'd rate the eating experience at a B-.
Beach- Really nice fine white sand beaches for swimming, sailing, snorkeling and exploring deserve a A-
Pools- The main pool is tired and a little noisy during the day. The swim up bar feels very early 90s. Once again the Luna section is quieter and allows you to rest or think without massive crowds, dance contests, souvenir vendors and loud music. Overall I give the pools a B rating.
Conclusion- I typically don't love the "all you can drink and eat before you fall down" holiday experiences which seems to be why many come here. And Hedonism in a communist country where beyond the hotel walls people fight for food, running water and freedom seems a little unsettling. More strange is that many visitors seen unaware the political and human condition in the country they are visiting.
So, if you do visit, tip well and respect the plight of the staff serving you. Staying in the quieter Luna section may also afford you the opportunity to think and reflect on a beautiful island in the midst of intense cultural turmoil.
Untouched landscapes, beautiful ocean and beach, OK food
First time to Cuba. The hotel itself is beautiful with plenty of vegetation and the beach is stunning as advertised. Hotel was in renovations when we came in and had to change rooms 3 times because of the low standards i.e. roof leaking, shower faucet not working etcfinally got a nice room with ocean-view! Food at the buffet was very low quality also and very little selection but the snack bar at Galleo bar was very good! restaurants you had to book ahead of time which was annoying because you only get 2 per stay- even if your there for over a week! Restaurant food was way higher quality then buffet!
Overall:
Rooms- 2* at best
Food- 2* at best (restaurants get 3*)
Facilities- 3* (the Turkish spa was a nice relaxation spot)
Beach- 5*
Pools- 2* (very small)
Drinks- 2*- pretty bad
Staff- 4*- very friendly
Entertainment/animation team: 1*- absolutely nothing to do and many activities were canceled without notice. Roberto however was a bright spot- a tremendous personality and fantastic with arranging daily mini trips i.e. horseback riding, trip to the cave etc
Shows/ Nightly entertainment- 4*- water ballet is a must and other shows were also very good! No real night life though for party people.
Overall, it is not a bad resort but it only suits those with specific needs- i.e. not for vegetarians, night life/ party individuals etc I would therefore recommend this hotel to certain individuals and not others. I also cannot compare this resort to others because this is my first time in Cuba.
If you dont mind a 3 star hotel with an amazing beach. This is the place for you. I'm giving this place 5 stars based on location, beach and coral.
The meals were good. Large selection
The Staff was kind and courteous
The hotel itself was in need of repair. Water leaking through ceiling onto my hotel room floor.
Beds were hard
Beach bar was excellent
The Beach is beautiful however the food quality is low and the rooms was renovated in the 80th
