I was highly disappointed by this hotel, which was recommended by a tour agency. The property is in desperate need of renovation, perhaps they need to close for a while and reopen because the rooms are outdated and weren't fully refurbished after the hurricane last year, so there are cockroaches who enter from the holes in the ground. I've been to certain hotels which aren't of the highest standards but at least I'd expect the minimum of cleanliness and cockroaches free room from a 4 star property- that shouldn't be too much to ask. Lunch, aka the hunger games- was a traumatizing experience where people jumped the food like they haven't seen food in their lives- and for that low quality food I'm not sure why they weren't running the other way. Drinks are quite bad as well- imagine a tropical island where they make piña colada with pineapple powder- couldn't believe it till I've seen it. Staff was quite rude as well and treated us like we're bothering them, or at times telling us how difficult their lives are as if to make us feel bad and give them tips. Such a thing should be up to my own discretion and not 'forced'. To summarize- avoid at all cost.
We stay at the resort from the 9th to 16th January. We got water issues. No water what so ever for a full day in our section of room. Some section didn't have water for more than 3 days.
The staff pretented that it was all the island of Santa Maria that did not have water. That was not the truth!! The other Melia Resorts on the Island were having no water issues.
The other issue that we have to deal with : No hot water what so ever for the duration of our vacation. We got move from our first room for a toilet not working because no water getting to it.
And a shower that was not working
The resort badly need renovations. There are no garbage bin on most areas of the resort. So there is garbages from places to places. The sad thing about it: No one care to pick them up.
We have report our water issues to the customer relation office twice. No change what so ever and a compensation was proposed to us but was never given The representative from Air Transat move many clients to the 5 stars resort For worse cases then us.
It's sad for a resort from the Melia Resorts.
On a positive side the bleach is wonderful. And the water sports are fantastic!!
It was my seven times on the Santa Maria Island.
I will be back for sure. But I don't plan to go back to this resort.
The staffs and service was great. But the resort is in terrible shape. The first night we got there our room had no lights and no AC, they quickly gave us a new roombut plenty of amenities missing. Toilets are is disgusting position. Nothing is cleaned. I would not go back to this resort.
Awesome place. Friendly staff. Good food as well.
Bad bad, bad customer service from the male with the sport jacket - the lady is super nice and she does a fantastic job.
Room was so dirty with the large roaches in the bed, small roaches in the tubs and bed bugs. The water is always out and the hydro is not properly wired. The linens are almost never cleaned and I smelt sewer every morning.
I would not recommend single and young females going here alone - I was given a room with a balcony door that didn't shut on the first floor, I had to wait an entire day and in fear of my safety and safety of my personal items before Sunwing finally fixed it. Customer service man was really bad.
The food was okay at first but then I saw the flies and it really got me sick.
One staff member was rude, most of the staff are amazing and hope they all find a better place to work at! Dancers are okay - some are stuck up and really are not great at dancing. The choreographer is really super cool and very talented, but a couple of his dancers really need to improve their attitude, it reflects in their dance and makes it seems fake/cold.
There is no: gym or fitness/wellness center, clubbing for people who want to dance, licensed massaged therapists.
The list goes on and I wish I had read the reviews before wasting my money and time on this place.
PS - some of the "regular" clients over the years have defended the hotel to me saying that the hurricane Irma is what made it so run-down..ummmm I am reading reviews rated at 1/5 from before the time the hurricane hit. Place has a lot of potential, but if they continue to mistreat good customers and also keep staff who are very rude to customers and do not want to work, they will keep losing business. This place is more like a 2 star not a 4 star. Needs a lot of work!
Service was great and beautiful beaches. Hugs were really bad but a small price to pay for the beauty beaches and perfect weather.
Gran hotel all inclusive
Dirty rooms. Toilets don't flush. Bad food with flies everywhere in dining areas. Valuables are not secure. Be forewarned!
The only reason that I'm giving this a 3 star is because of the rooms we had to switch rooms a few times before finally obtaining a good clean room. Even thought our tv didn't work and our bathroom was a broken (bath tub) the beach was FANTASTIC A+ for that the food was great but if your going there make sure to bring insect repellent cause my son got bit by some kind of bug and his arm was a little swollen up. The services where great and there's a lot of activities. Overall I would recommend this to people because common we don't pay a few thousand dollars for the rooms or the hotel we pay that much for the beach the sunlight and relaxation !! Anyways I hope this comment helped you crazy travellers out there and enjoy yourselves
Great beach, good food, the rum is great. It was the off season so repairs were being done, the staff is very friendly.
The worst Melia I have ever been, absolutely not recommended. The food was awful and the facilities very disappointed.
Rooms are very nice. Staff very helpful and friendly. Entire hotel very up to date and clean. Breakfast had many options to choose from and the lady who was working the breakfast area was very accommodating to get you something if needed. Check in out was very simple. Only wish our stay was longer.
Nice and cheap. We just come back from a nice week, we spent a good time with a very friendly staff. A special thanks to Raul Aritza the new GM is doing a great job.
