Good selection of hikes. From 2 km loops that take in the volcanic features. To 10 km loops through jungle to waterfalls. Helpful guides at the reception help you choose what's right for you. There's also a food shop close by to buy snacks and drinks. 700 Colones per person entrance fee for the private road to the reception. Then $15 per adult and $5 per child to access all the hikes.

We very much enjoyed our walk around this National Park with the fumaroles, boiling mud and water pools, but mainly for the wildlife.
Our hotel provided us with the best guide we had in Costa Rica: Walter (Wally). He has studied Costa Rica's wildlife for years and knows everything. He also carries around all his books where he has noted every new sighting for years.
We saw some white throated capuchins, many birds, blue morpho butterflies The highlight was a tapir resting in the bushes - a little hard to see, but you could make out his ears with the white spots on top twitching every few seconds

As far as trails go this one is fairly tame, allowing a nice nature walk for the whole family. Our hotel provided a very fun and knowledgeable guide who was able to share unlimited amounts of information about the surrounding flora, fauna, volcanic springs and wildlife. We didn't see much in the way of wildlife on our tour, but the scenery was beautiful and we learned plenty!

Very nice national park with volcanic activity. It felt very different than most other parks in costa rica making it a pleasant experience. We saw a puma on our way to the park on horseback!

Nice national park with a lot of birds, butterflies and beautiful nature.
There are couple of waterfalls and little rivers.
Trails is easy and takes about 2 hours.
The hot springs are cool!

Great walks. Currently, the walk up to the crater is closed due to its increased activity. With our baby daughter, we could do both the walk to the waterfall (4 hours and your are back) and the circle walk to the small mud bath, waterfall and crater. We so at multiple spots fifteenth types of monkeys. Los of butterflies too! Make sure you use repellent. Within one minute we could sing fiercely.

Waterfall is really nice! Just couple things:
They open at 8am not 7am. The trail into the Volcano is closed for more than 5years and you are not allowed to camp in this park. Internet says otherwisr so we were quite surprised ;)

Monkeys everywhere and it was awesome! Saw 3 different types of monkeys. Also saw a toucan. The short hike through the trail we chose was perfect.

We really enjoyed the visit to this park either because it is beautiful but also because we have been lucky to meet our guide Walter. He was very enthusiastic and passionate about the nature and very knowledgable about the flora and the fauna of this park. We highly recommend a visit to this park, especially in Walter's company.

Hard to get to without a car. We went to the bus station and got hooked up with a pirate taxi which took us up there and then came back 6 hours later to pick us up. Round trip from Liberia was $60 USD total for 2 of us. The park itself was really nice. Saw some monkeys and exotic birds. The catarata la cangreja was awesome.
