El mejor sitio para acampar , que visto en toda mi vida , especial para familias con hijos, ya que la playa es muy serena , sin oleajes, es una inmensa piscina. Simplemente hermoso. Viva Guanacaste, bendito sea por siempre el dÃa que dijeron sÃ, a la anexión a Costa Rica. Wiiiipipiaaaa

Beautiful. Spent 1 night camping, just after the Easter holiday weekend. There was only one other site occupied, so it felt like I had the place to myself. Quiet, clean and peaceful. Unlike other places to camp near the beach that I have seen, or read about, there is no civilization close, so I had very little fear that my belongings would be taken. I was able to leave all my gear for long periods of time while I swam, or hiked. I was surprised at the temperature of the water, but once acclimatized, it was incredible.
(Side note. If you are there by yourself, there will be no one to put sunscreen lotion on the center of your back. So a spray on lotion would be a good choice)
The road in seemed to be pretty rugged, but in retrospect after having now driven in the mountains around Monteverde, it was quite well maintained. You would not need AWD or an SUV to drive in.
I was lucky enough to see a beautiful sunset and a full moon over night. The tide comes into the bay very quickly, and is amazing that one can watch it advance.
A good sized group of monkeys were there to share the water at the taps early in the morning, and lots of entertainment.
Just to the West (approx. 1-2km) of the entrance to the camping and day use area is a little driveway which leads to a little private beach with a campsite. It is outside of the serviced area, so no toilets or running water. I cannot be sure, but this looked like a good free spot to set up camp for those who may be up for a little more adventure. I would recommend an SUV with AWD for access down there.
