Berni & Co. were wonderful hosts! Easy-going and non-intrusive. The place is an oasis in the neighborhood, not too far from downtown San Jose.
We had the foresight to order a meal ahead, and this was exquisite! Expertly prepared, and delicious. If you need to eat, do it here at least once during your stay. You will not be disappointed.
While Pura Vida was a welcome last night's stay for us, we would happily have made this out first stop, and could easily have used Pura Vida as a home base for exploring the area. Maybe next time.

I found this hotel to be very disappointing. We only stayed one night and in the morning there was no hot water. The owners were more interested in preparing long drawn out meals than taking care of their guests. Not what I was expecting.

We actually cancelled another hotel in central Alajuela to stay another night here and Fernando and crew were extremely helpful in accommodating us. It's just too perfect. A little oasis away from the sketchiness of late night downtown. Yesterday we laid in the garden and read while watching the clouds dance under a perfect breeze, that's when we made the decision. Breakfast is phenomenal, fresh fruits, granola and yogurt, great coffee and cake, and a really nice fruit smoothie/juice. I don't really have any interest in the greater San Jose area but if you ever need to stay by the airport. Only downside is the road noise but it didn't keep me up at night. This is where you want to be! I wish we could have planned it from the beginning because I would have loved to try dinner here :)

Fantastic little oasis very close to the airport in San Jose. Delicious breakfast and beautiful accommodation Our host Bernie was great would definitely recommend staying here.

Perfect location for arrival or departure from SJO. Fantastic staff. Wonderful garden. Comfy beds. Great breakfast and wonderful coffee. Adorable dogs. Perfect.

Stayed here in July 2017 with my daughter for our first night in Costa Rica before jumping off to other areas. Great accommodations, wonderful breakfast and the owner Berni was incredibly helpful with helping us find a restaurant nearby for the type of food we were craving and arranging a car rental.

Truly a cherry on top of my vacation! Gorgeous property grounds, amazing views, huge room, most attentive staff, anything you would expect to find in a five-star hotel. Oh, and did I mention the breakfast feast they serve? Special thanks to Bernie for all the guidance! I will make sure to recommend your hotel to everyone who is traveling to San Jose :)

Very nice place with very nice gardens to walk around in. The owner is an Englishman with a strong British sense of humor. The cabinas are very nice neat and clean with tasteful decorations. The only downfall would be the noise from the street, it is very noticable.

Highly recommend-
Berni and Nhi are excellent hosts. They run this small independent hotel in Tuetal Sur just north of downtown Alajuela. They have several casitas set amongst a lush garden within a safe compound. They also run a nice restaurant for their guests in the high season and Nhi is an excellent cook.
It is a short Uber/Taxi ride into downtown Alajuela for restaurants, the nearby city mall or the airport. They will help you arrange tours or transportation, simply ask and they're more than happy to assist. They provide breakfast, wifi, and credit cards are accepted. They also will pay for an orange airport taxi if you need an airport transfer via vouchers.response / report this review -

This hotel is really cool. I love the tropical rainforest theme and all the plants and trees around you. The hammocks are a cool add on. I love Bandit (the German Shepard) he is really sweet and loves to play. Great hotel
