On the web it looks like it's this gigantic place but when I went there half of the zoo exhibits we're closed down or being remodeled. The trails were great but the animals can hardly be seen as the weeds around them are overgrown. There's a lot of room for improvement.

If you hate animals then this is the place for you. Animals were in tiny cramped cages often just with concrete flooring, birds had no space to fly and there wasn't even a tree with the sloth.
We were happy to see a parrot making a bid for freedom though! Sadly I don't think he was able to fly, so probably didn't make it out of this awful place.
If you care about animals at all DO NOT GO HERE.

Very fun zoo!! There are many different species of birds and monkeys and turtles, almost all native to the surrounding area. It’s nice to see them taken care of so well and for them to have as much free reign as they do. Worth the visit for sure - you’ll have a good time here!

Small zoo, saw some rats..well about 5 in and around the animals, however beautiful ants, trampoline and fun wild bird merry go round for the little ones. We had a nice time covered everything in an hour cheap, but needs attention.

Thoroughly enjoyed this during my stopover in San Jose. Very different from my experiences with zoological parks in the USA. I was able to get extremely up close to the animals! The flora was equally amazing! Could have sat there for hours and just soaked up the beauty and the sounds. Was very impressed with the animal habitats as well.

A nice place for a walk. Enclosures for the animals are not spacious. Not unlike many small Urban zoos.

I wish they had more options for food and souvenirs, but otherwise this was a very cool zoo. Good animals and the entry is only $5. Make sure to try to get the green parrots talking!

This is only a small zoo and they have a variety of animals for you to see. Some of the enclosures have a lot of places the animals can be hidden from view, but it's good value for money. It takes about an hour and a half to walk around.

A Nice Place - kind of combinatination of a botanical- and zoological garden with a good selection of costarican animals. I spent three hours there and had a "close encounter" with a jaguar (Picture below) It is within walking distance - (15 to 20 min.) Front the city center, first up hill and then down hill gut not so easy to find - netter you take a cab. I can really recommend to visit this nice place (netter in the morning, animals are more activ and the garden is not so crowded. Fred/Switzerland

I walked in for free so that was nice. Immense plants. Beautiful brugmansia. Animals in cages are sad but at least they're kind of where they'd be in real life. Total time was 15 minutes so I hope it wouldn't have costed much if I'd paid

Despite entrance of this small zoo looked a little bit dilapidated, however, all the birds, monkeys, animals & etc were all well kept here. It's fun and educational to have such a place in the center of San Jose. Good work and keep on!!

If I recall, it was free on the day I went. It's a small zoo, but it's worth visiting. The animals seemed to me at the time to be well taken care of. I spent a pleasant afternoon by myself strolling through this park.

Fun walk lots of animals and such. Quiet, and nice for a date. Maybe read up on animals prior to going because if your spanish is shakey you arent going to be sure about things. Otherwise a great way to spend an afternoon. Not expensive, around 3000 colon per person.

Small quiet zoo in the middle of the city. They have a good variety of animals for the size. Don't miss the tapir across the pond by the crocodiles by the entrance.

It's small and good located park. Little green oasis with beautiful flora and fauna of Costa Rica. Worthy to vizit for all family. Interesting to see different types of birds. There are many of them attract your eyes by different colors!

We paid 5,400.00 Colones for two people to go in and see 1 or 2 animals on a 3x3 cage. NOT impressed or happy to see such small habitat for those inocent creatures!

Lots of beautiful animals and birds. It is being remodeled so I look forward to see visit again soon. My kids loved it! (not worth comparing with US zoos But it is worth visiting)
