A lovely location with a gentle to down the river. We managed to see quite a few monkeys and birds along the way with our guide able to provide lots of useful information as well.

Awesome place with lots of birds. You must know that from cano negro town, the forest is denser towards one side ( I think north) and less dense towards the other side. You animals only towards the denser side, and mostly birds towards the other side. So make you choice and book accordingly. Getting here is not easy though. It's a lot of unpaved roads, but seeing all these exotic birds is worth the trip!

This is a good activity for folks who can't go hiking through the jungle. There is a lot of wildlife here (birds, monkeys, caimans, slots, bats). It's a very mellow boat tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I was definitely surprised by how many animals we saw since the refuge is a tiny strip along the river with farmland right behind it.

Well worth the trip. This refuge is very nicely done. I really like that the walkways are close to the enclosures although all the animals are not always in view. The restaurant is very good.

Great wildlife refuge. Sighted all kings of birds, a few caiman, basilik lizard (Jesus Christ lizards), howler monkeys and sloths. On border to Nicaragua. Our guide did a great job pointing things out as did our driver. Snacks on board (cookies and juice). Our group varied from young baby, all ages of kids, teenagers and adults. All enjoyed the laid back day.

My husband and I did a river boat tour down the Rio Frio last week. We saw so many animals & interesting birds! There were a couple of troups of white-faced capuchins, snake birds galore, a "stick bird", several Jesus Christ lizards & even a few sloths (which don't look like much when they're sleeping high up in a tree!). Even saw a caiman or two. Quite an experience, which I highly recommend!

When we were there, the tourist season was clearly over. We had the water to ourselves. Our guide's English was ok, even though it was sometimes hard to understand him. Cano negro is the Nirvana of bird spotting. We didn't only see birds, we also saw a sloth, lizzards Take a guide, it is worth it: he knows where the animals eat, sleep And at yhe same time you suplort the local community.

It's an oasis in the middle of the wetlands. The area is gorgeous and the people running the place are very friendly. The road you need to take is breathtaking but also as rough as it gets. We made more than a few (what we call in Dutch) schietgebedjes and have a newfound respect for the Daihatsu brand. We can recommend this place to everyone who's looking for some peace and quiet in a clean and very nice lodge. We did a boat tour through the wetlands and got to see many exotic animals.

Took a boat tour up the Rio Frio. The captain and our Collette tour director were great looking for wildlife and identifying birds, animals and reptiles. We could move about the boat and go up on the bow for great pictures. Since we were unable to go into the Cloud forest due to TS Nate and its damage, this was the highlight of our Costa Rican trip.

Incredible tour. Enriching trip up in comfortable air conditioned bus on the way to destination with multiple stops to see sloth, iguanas, wide variety of birds. Must do kind of tour with Canoa Adventures. Saw 3 different type of monkeys (White face, Howler and Spider).. Lizards, Caïman different variety of Kingfishers and more! THIS IS A MUST DO

The Caño Negro river trip is one of the greatest wildlife and birding trips in Costa Rica; absolutely must-see destination. A day trip from La Fortuna; our guide gave us an in-depth introduction to Costa Rican history, culture, agriculture, politics, economics and conservation. And the wildlife! Howler, spider and capuchin monkeys; Pacific Screech Owl; Great Poutou; Amazon Kingfishers; bare-throated heron; crested Caracara; and these are just some highlights.

Booked trip from home via Desafio. Cheaper than other companies. Collected from hotel in Arenal. Small party of people. On route the driver had spotted a baby sloth up a small tree. We stopped to look. It was the closest we came on our whole tour and we got brilliant photos. We stopped on route at a place where there were hundreds of iguanas. Arriving at the canal we had Costa Rican pancakes and lemon juice included. We boarded a boat which we had to ourselves. Before we boarded there was a spider monkey in a tree. On the boat we saw birds bats monkeys. We saw lots of birds on the bumpy road to the canal. After we had casada with chicken absolutely delicious. Fruit juice fruit and coffee included. This trip was the best of our holiday we saw more wildlife here than anywhere and our guide was brilliant
