Epic landscapes. The tip of the volcano was covered by the clouds when I went, but the views were still amazing. There are two trails you can do. The yellow trail takes 2.5 hrs to do and the red trail takes 1.5hrs. The hike is an easy to medium trail with mild inclines. Definitely a must do when staying near or in La Fortuna! Bring good foot wear!

Good views. Nice walking trails. Little parts were challenging, where you had to climb the lava rocks, but otherwise easy. We saw some birds and heard lots of sounds.

A stunning place to visit, even on a cloudy day. The views are amazing and the surrounding forest and lava rock trail make a good hiking trail. The climb can be a little step in places but it's well marked and overall easy to get round.

It is a nice enough park walk. Not at all challenging. I don’t see the need for a guide. Read up on the Volcano before you go and perhaps about the flora and fauna. We saw no wildlife though did hear some interesting bird calls. Vista was nice but not spectacular. You actually cannot get close to the Volcano as you are simply at its base and not very high up.
It must be said though- for $15USD per person one would expect working toilets and some running water. One woman said the toilets were the worst she had encountered and I wouldn’t use them. The men’s apparently were no better. When I tried to tell a worker they were all clogged she did not respond.
Definitely a blight on the park.

We had a nice and a bit lonely (if yo go early in the morning, you can avoid crowds) hike trough Arenal volcano national park. We took the public bus from Fortuna and hiked to park to hike in park.. 😁 all in all-managable. Our slow hiking took us about 2,5-3h, i don't think it's a whole day activity even with kids.. I do recommend to wear proper shoes and to take some snacks and water with you. And a rain jacket to, as weather is changing. After hike you can check out /hitchhike to free hot water springs or opt out for some of the beautiful but pricey hot spring resorts.

I loved my trip to Volcan Arenal, which was part of an all day tour. The three hour ride from San Jose was quite relaxing. Although the day was overcast and we didn't see the peek of the volcano, our view was still spectacular! The surrounding view of the Pacific side was equally beautiful.

Very beautiful but not worth it in every trail! The 1992 lava flow trail was not well maintained and there is nothing really impressive to see on the volcano side (except for the huge tree). But, on the Laguna side, there is a very nice and clean trail with animals and beautiful views. After all it's not expensive so that's why I give it 4 stars.
That being said, I didn't try the 1968 lava flow trail

This area of Costa Rica is a great place to stop if you're looking for an outdoor adventure. It is close to hot springs, zip lining, hiking, and other activities. However, come prepared for some rain. It was overcast or raining during our whole stay, but that didn't ruin anything. It is also near the town of La Fortuna, which had some great souvenir shops if you want to buy any.

Overhyped. If you're are person want to go trails then great .. You can go out for 2 hours hitting the trails around the lake with Volcano in the background.. Volcano is just for the namesake there. Your $12 is for the trails. If you are there for Volcano then this charge is waste. Better have a PC from outside as you are not going to get any Closer from trail also. Your pic with Volcano in he back will look same from outside or the on the trail. We were 4 so thought having lunch at one of the restaurant on the location with Volcano and lake in the background make more sense. Rest is individual choice.

It is the most famous place in Costa Rica. The volcano is a legend. The park is beautiful with a very nice ecosystem to discover. Going with a guide is highly recommanded. Otherwise you will hear a lot of sound but you won't know what and where it come from.

Beautiful place, so many things to do, you'll need days to take them all in. Friendly people everywhere. We hiked and played under a waterfall, then bathed in a warm river.

This was our 1st hike/park out of all the ones we hit while in Costa Rica. Compared to the other 3 this one seemed way overcrowded. Workers using heavy machinery while we were hiking seemed to effect not seeing a single animal. I personally would skip and do something else, too bad it could have been awesome!

Got to explore this place when visiting my brother and his family. Easy and fun hike, even for kids as you might spot lizards, snakes and many interesting plants along the way. The trail has good directional signs if you so decide to shorten the walk. The suspension bridges and waterfall offer fun breaks during our 2-hour leisurely hike.

Great walk of 2 hours at the bottom of the volcano. The entry is 15 dollars. Really cool walk into the rainforest. We have been amazed by a giant tree.

I'm probably biased because I've never seen a volcano in real life, but this felt so incredible to be here. It's so impressively big and it's cool to know it had nothing to do with humans creating it. The park also has a beautiful lookout of the volcano and, opposite to the volcano, there's a vast lake. It's just an all around pretty place.

As the name says itself: it has the nature of a resort. The location is great, the facilities are fantastic, and the pool and the bar are just WONDERFUL. Only downsides is the lack of a kitchen (a bit annoying for backpackers) but the bar offers great food and drinks at quite good prices. The music from the bar was also a bit loud but they'd always turn it lower at around midnight. Totally recommendable for chilling and relaxing after a day of hiking the volcano!

Great National Park. Pay the small tourist entry fee and hit the trails. You're greeted with some easy, flat walking trails, a few steps up to viewing points of the volcano and some fantastic wildlife watching if you're lucky. The entrance gives you a trail map but it's all really well signposted so you can't get lost. The volcano is usually shrouded in cloud, so you've got to be lucky to get a good view.

We went on an excursion to this park, and frankly weren't happy with the small amount of time we were able to spend in this seriously INCREDIBLE place. The landscaping near the hotel and gorgeous, as well as the views. Trekking through the forest would have been amazing, but our group was only about to walk a short trail along the edge. Next time we are in the area we plan to spend at least a full day or two. Amazing weather shifts and stunning beauty.

Great hike. The online and brochures won't tell you that the Volcano is usually covered with clouds, but the locals and guides are so helpful and incredibly kind for someone that doesn't know their language very well.

A magnificent part of the planet that is not so remote you can't make a simple overnight of it. Lots of food and drink k stops around the lake, less gasoline. The Arenal Observatory Lodge is a long way in but worth every kilometre and dollar.

Amazing hike and views! Their are two main hile trails. One taking about 30min to a great view point and If you continue on that path for another 3 hours , mostly up hill . You will arrive at arenals stunning lake . Which is totally worth the grueling hike.

If you are visiting Arenal, this particular park offers the best value. You can hike around rain forest, get on the hanging bridge, see the waterfall and climb on the top of the Volcano. Of course we had to do all of the above, and you get the stunning view of the Arenal.

We did the shorter hike as we had people with us that couldn't do too strenuous of a hike and we were on the clock. It was a very nice hike. Took about an hour and a half. There is plenty of plant life and different viewing angels of the volcano to keep it interesting. While I think that $10 a person is a bit steep, it was well kept.
