This is our second time to stay at the Arenal Paraiso. Our first experience was nice, especially the restaurant and the on-site hot springs. However, this visit was disappointing. The hot springs was not in operation and we found that the restaurant prices had more than tripled in the past four years. The room was adequate but somewhat dated. The staff was very nice.

This hotel is a tourism factory, so if you are looking for a cosy and calm place, go away from this place. Our first feeling was to be in prison as per the fences we saw when arriving plus you have to wear the mandatory bracelet the get access to the facilities. Our room was quite clean and the hot spring area is not so bad (reason why we give at least one star rating). The pool side is definitely not clean, as well as the towels, transats (that are also times not enough a per the huge number of customers). And also the staff is not friendly and professional ! (especially from the looby and the pool side). The only thing we were happy with is to only stay for 2 days in that place..

For the price, I think the places lacks basic attention. No water in toilette, pools were not really clean and they open the pools late supposedly because they clean them but I couldn't notice it.

I would strongly suggest to look for other options including splitting termal waters and hotel.

Seems like we lucked out with this hotel. Very friendly front desk staff and nice restaurant. Included buffet breakfast was very good and filling for a long day out hiking. Had gorgeous views of the volcano right from our front porch on the 3 perfectly clear days we stayed. Seemed like the hotel was empty the days we stayed because we had the cascading hot spring pools to ourselves in the evenings when we returned from our long days hiking - which was extremely relaxing. We were able to get this hotel in late January for about $110 USD per night and were extremely happy. For a hotel with onsite hot springs we thought this was a hidden gem of a resort.

The rooms and furniture are worn. There were no towels, wash cloths, or shower gel in the room the day we arrived. The shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel all have an antiseptic smell that reminded me of a doctor's office. Buildings and landscaping do not dampen sound. So, you hear road noise, roosters, and anything your neighbors are doing--talking, showering, opening/closing doors, etc. Wifi only available in restaurant and lobby and it doesn't work well in either location. The hair dryer is under powered and couldn't dry my girlfriend's hair. At night, the outdoor lighting is poor and does not illuminate paths around the hot springs making walks there treacherous. There were many bugs in the room. I expect some given the climate. However, gaps beneath and around the door give them free reign to spend the night with you. Ant larvae present in bathroom. Many of the fixtures in the room and lobby don't have lampshades or weren't designed for the location they were placed making the compact fluorescent and LED light bulbs blindingly bright. TV is tiny and only gets two channels in English. We had to remind them we were owed a dinner voucher at their restaurant for purchasing the combo tour package. This voucher should have been provided at the time the package was purchased.

Spacious lodge with decently sized rooms. I enjoyed the pool area with its 12 spring-fed hot tubs.
