It is a historical building. There is no air conditioning or fan to overcome summer heat.

The best hotel in Lucerne. Hope they can preserve it for the future generation.

I don't know how this was classified as a four star hotel. That's probably the big deception here. By Asian standards, it's just about three stars. We were given rooms on the 6th floor. It's the top floor, so it was hot. We were given two stand fans to compensate. We left the window open while we were out and it was certainly better. Our room was small but the toilet was unbelievably big. Despite the one window, the room was depressingly dark. The breakfast was mediocre. Regardless, it was a tolerable place for the short stay and at an excellent location so I wouldn't warn people against staying there. Ps: the photos put up on display are nothing like the interiors of our rooms. Ours were too basic and frankly embarrassing to photo document. The room is certainly the lowest standard I've seen in my life so far.

This Monopol Hotel located at a very strategic position, easy to get some interesting places in Lucerne city of Switzerland (Lake Lucerne, Old Town, Chapel Bridge, train station, etc).

Sent complaint about their cleaner left our door widely open all day in their website but no one care or email back. My sister wrote review on their facebook, no one reply and they also deleted it without any care for customer. Pls see the photo for what happened.

Short version: the location. Would definitely stay here again.

If you're looking for a central place to stay, this is it. I strategically booked this near the central station to reduce the time to carry luggage. Lucerne is pretty walkable and even knowing that, the hotel staff offered a bus pass for a day and a nice Starbucks discount.

I had originally booked at their sister hotel Alpina but in winter they share the reception of the Monopol. I got transferred for the same amount of money.

The rooms are not recent but they do not seem over heated like many other hotels. Plus, I've got a view over the lake which is nice.

Surely a great 4 star hotel, with its location and nice bed and soft pillow

Worst hotel experience ever in Switzerland. Saturday night 15.10.2016: even though we were on the 4th floor, noise from the disco downstairs loud enough thumping bass preventing us from sleeping until after 3:30AM. We call reception at 1:15AM, one man comes to investigate, agrees it's not OK and tells us to pack as we shall get another room, then we hear nothing, finally 30 minutes later (that would be quarter to 2 AM) I call reception again, to be told that they did not find a room and they're sorry we'll get a discount. Then in the morning we talk to the very young trainee receptionist who has not authority do do anything, finally a guy we saw the whole time sitting at the back comes, only after we wasted the time of the receptionist, and even though he saw us being quite unhappy for the whole while while, and the man tells us we paid in advance anyways so there's no talk of discount, we can just get the breakfast for free. Then the breakfast sucked: small cramped room little choice.

Great location. Easy place to go anywhere. Would stay here again. All the types of food you would want are around here. Very easy access to the train station.

Lovely historic building in excellent location across from train station with Starbucks on main floor. But first night group got stuck in private elevator for an hour ringing the emergency bell and no one answered it! As a guest I called the front desk and told them on what floor the elevator had stuck. Not good! The liquid soap in our shower was completely out and only a bit left at the sink. The hot water was sporadic. The sink clogged. We needed a second fan to cool the room since it had no air conditioning and one fan simply wasn't enough. That said the staff came up immediately and replaced both soap containers and was very pleasant. Would I stay here again? No I'd look for another hotel convenient to the train station.
