Great veterinarians (All of them) and great staff. I'm new to Vancouver and they have been very helpful. Ì can tell my dog is in good hands

DO NOT go to Veterinarian Hospital or at least do not see Drs. Minhas and Yu. My very long story condensed…
I took my dog in because his neck was swollen and he was acting very odd. Dr. Minhas stated that there was no swelling and he might just be “nauseous.” I insisted there was swelling, she took him to the back, and when she came back, she said there was in fact quite a large lump. She suggested the following day he be sedated to look down his throat to see if there was anything lodged in there. Next day, I saw Dr. Yu who said she did not find anything, but poked the swelling with a needle and said a bunch of “puss” came out, which meant it is in abscess and must be an infection. They took a culture (sent to the lab) and prescribed him with generic antibiotics. They said that over the following days the swelling will decrease, but the opposite happened, it kept getting bigger. I phoned in 2 times to consult, and both times they said wait for the results for the culture. I couldn’t wait anymore and I took him to a Vet at 1st Avenue Hospital. He described the situation as an emergency and that my dog needed to be operated on before it gets any bigger and that he could potentially stop breathing. In addition, he was shocked that they never prescribed my dog with any pain medication (my dog was not eating). This Vet said that because the other Vet stated there was puss, it must be an abscess, however his initial impression would be that it was a ruptured saliva gland. The next day, he goes for surgery and it was discovered that they did misdiagnose my dog and he actually did have a ruptured saliva gland (needed to be removed). This doctor said there was “no puss” in the lump and when we got the results from the culture, this confirmed that this was a misdiagnosis. When I told Dr. Yu about this, she became defensive and stated “there was definitely puss” and maybe the “bacteria died on the way to the lab.”
In short, I put my dog through a week of pain (without pain medications,) was charged $500 for a sedation he did not need, and worst of all, if I would have stuck with this Vet, my dog very well might not be here today. I would like to say my dog has made a full recovery after the operation.response / report this review -

Absolutely the best place I've ever brought my dog. Good office space, long term front line staff, amazing and caring vets. I will continue to bring new dogs here even though I no longer live in the area.

We've been two a couple of different vets in the city and while nothing was obviously wrong I wouldn't call them great.
That's the reason we sought out a new vet and after some research we saw this place came highly recommended.
After our first visit we can certainly see why, the professionalism of the vet techs and vets is second to none. Everyone has been incredibly knowledgeable and most importantly transparent.
At no point have I ever felt I was being up sold or misled in treatment for my pets.
We currently take both our Dog and Cat here and I am a very vocal supporter of this business to any pet owners enquiring about Veterinary offices.response / report this review -

My sweetie accidentally mated with another dog on April 19. I took her to visit the Vet on May 30, which is already 42 days after the incident. The possible due day would be sometime around June 20. The Vet examined her and said "Congratulations, there's at least one puppy" and then I said "I would like to know how many puppies will be in the litter." She then took an X-ray. After a short while, she came back and said "Congratulations, it's a false pregnancy, there are no babies inside." And, I said there's two long dark shadows in the X-ray and she said "those are poop" (but she pooped just 10 minutes before she went in the hospital) Then I asked what's the after care etc.. she said I could do the annual vaccine (DHPP) and spay her asap if possible, and all meals should be back to normal etc. I was relieved and started to cut down her meals from 4-5 meals a day back to 2.
I called the Vet again about a week ago before June 20 because my sweetie's size was getting much bigger and she seemed very tired etc. The Vet said those are all symptoms of false pregnancy and I shouldn't worry too much.
On June 21, in the middle of the night, I heard my sweetie screaming. I thought she was just trying to tell me to take her out for her business. I went to check on her and shortly after she gave birth to the first few puppies I was so shocked! I didn't prepare anything for her labour such as blanket, floor heater, whelping box, and I actually cut down her meals for a while already. My family and I didn't sleep well at all because we didn't know how many puppies she might have so we were just waiting and waiting for a few hours. It's really a big surprise to me!
I called the Vet next morning and the Vet said "my coworker also took a look at the X-ray and said there were no babies; however, we might not able to see anything if the time is too early" and I said I saw two long dark shadows in the X-ray and you told me those were poop she pooped just 5 minutes before she came to see you. Thank you for the surprise!
She's now very skinny and lack of nutrient!
Overall, the vet is very nice and friendly but doesn't mean they won't make mistake and have enough practical/clinical experience. I showed the same X-ray to my vet friend from the other province and were told there were two puppies according to the X-ray.
My impression: most of the vet in lower mainland area never tell you how much they are going to charge you before they prescribe and do their work. The X-ray is expensive!response / report this review -

I took my guinea pig in for what looked like a case of bumble foot. The clinic was clean and there were two staff running the front desk, since it was busy.
The vet covered all the bases: helped me choose a more suitable bedding for my guinea pigs, reviewed some basics about vitamin C deficiency, went over how to administer the medication and printed out a booklet with info about bumble foot and the best veggies for Vitamin C. She was friendly and patient. The clinic then called in 2 days later to make sure I was doing ok with administering medication. This will be my guinea pig vet from now on.response / report this review -

We have been taking our dogs here since day one and we have nothing else but best to say about the staff and Dr. Cheung. I and our dogs can sense that she truly loves animals and we are always greeted with the warmest smile. I have full confidence in her knowledge and decision making, and a number of times we were able to avoid costly procedures and get the best treatment because the staff deemed such extraneous procedures unnecessary. It's very hard to find a good vet that you can depend on for the duration of your beloved pet's lifespan, and I feel blessed to have found one so close to our home. Thank you Amy and all the staff of Vancouver Veterinary Hospital!

Sadly we have moved to Poco and had to change vets, our experience with Vancouver Vet has been phenomenal . We have 3 rescue dogs and 2 elderly cats, we've had all the dogs teeth cleaned and removed a few teeth in our severely neglected special needs guy. Also last October Micheal discovered a mass in routine anal express in our rat terrier and they quickly diagnosed it as cancer, we were beside ourselves with worry and dread. They removed both her anal sacs perfectly and very soon after the diagnosis, she is a different dog today much happier and silly. I've subsequently had her checked at the new Vet and the tech said " I've never seen a better outcome no scaring or anything, unbelievable". We will miss you all tremendously and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your excellent care and genuine love of all our fur family, I would give you more stars if I could.

We have had our rescue cat for 7 months now. I took him to another veterinary hospital at first, and even on my very first visit they were forcing me to defend my choice to feed my cat a grain-free, no meat-by-product diet, and they handled my poor cat so roughly he hissed many many times. I immediately "quit" that vet and came to Vancouver Veterinary Hospital after reading all the wonderful reviews. We were so glad we did -- and we only wish we had come here first. Dr. Yu is our vet, and she is always so gentle with our cat that he hardly lets out a sound during his examination. Unfortunately they had to break news to us that our cat has chronic kidney disease and cancer a couple of weeks ago. Dr. Yu was away on the day the test results came back so Dr. Cheung gave me a call so we weren't kept waiting. She was extremely kind and patient in explaining our options to us, and I must have called her the same day about 3 more times with more questions -- all which she answered with patience, understanding and empathy. Dr. Yu came back the next day to follow up with us and to also make sure that all of our questions were answered. During all of the testings, our cat even peed in the examination room and the staff were extremely understanding and kind, and made it feel like it was no big deal. We are hopeful that our cat can have another year to be with us under the kind care of Dr. Yu and the entire staff at Vancouver Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Yu and Dr. Cheung, thank you so, so very much!

This is by far the best vet hospital we have found in Vancouver. Prices for treatment and other items are far better than other places. Before our family cat passed away, one vet clinic quoted us over $500 for an ultrasound. VVH was $150 and was done within 48 hours.

Dr. Amy Cheng is very friendly, upbeat, great with dogs and caring. She avoids unnecessary procedures. Never felt my money is wasted here. I have a full trust in this vet hospital and my dogs are excited to see her.

We have been taking our two cats to Vancouver Veterinary Hospital for a couple of years now. Each visit has been smooth and - dare I say - even pleasant, thanks to the caring, friendly and super efficient team there. They always seem to go the extra mile to make both pet and owner feel as comfortable and taken care as possible. Dr. Matteson always takes the time to listen carefully to issues and offer great solutions or advice. The pricing is fair and reasonable. Hope the business is able to keep standards up, so we can continue to bring our beloved cats here for many years to come!
