Fury, friendly friends are always welcomed at Parkland Lodge for a visit. This is a very special visit for Dorothy Hodgson as her daughter brought two canine pets for a visit on January 7. Dorothy just moved into the lodge on December 3rd last year. Dorothy says, "It was hard leaving my dog Sassy (14) behind. But my daughter is taking great care of her for me and even brings her dog Newman (4) at the same time for a visit." Edson’s new Youth Council

On January 4-6, the Edson Midget Sabres 1 and Novice 1 teams hosted a home hockey tournament at Repsol Place. Here, the Midget Sabres play their second game of the weekend against the South West Edmonton Zone Oil Kings, whom they beat 4-2. This win placed the Midget Sabres at the top of their pool, which meant the team would be competing in the Pool A division finals later that day. -- See the January 14, 2019 issue of The Weekly Anchor.

As a part of the Midget Sabres 1/Novice 1 hockey tournament held on December 4-6, a competition was held to see which team—including away teams participating in the tournament—could bring in the most pet food for EARS (judged by weight). The Midget Sabres 1 team won the competition and took home a gift card for a pizza party. Parkland Lodge residents are off to a healthy and happy 2019 as they took part in Yoga exercises on January 2. Leading the chair-yoga class is Jeanine Chouinard, who will be coming into the lodge every Wednesday for the month of January to teach the class. Amanda Wills in the recreation department said, "We are trying a few different activities for the residents this year and towards the end of the month we are even doing a wine tasting event for them." --See the January 14, 2019 issue of The Weekly Anchor.

Evansburg's aging water tower has now been torn down after Yellowhead County Council approved a Reserve transfer of $131,000 to complete the demolition of the old water towers in Wildwood and Evansburg, as well as the old Wildwood fire hall. -- See the January 14, 2019 issue of The Weekly Anchor.

Serious motor vehicle collision near Edson
The Edson RCMP and Emergency Services were on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision eastbound on Highway 16 between Range Road 142 and Range Road 144 on Friday, January 11.
Witnesses passing the scene stated a truck headed east on Highway 16 hit a snowplow, which was stopped on a highway shoulder.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 16 were closed and remained that way for several hours. Motorists were asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
The RCMP report that tragically, a six year old boy from Edson died on the scene. The male driver was take to an Edmonton hospital with minor injuries. No cause for the accident has been determined yet. The plow operator was uninjured. The RCMP investigation continues.

Evansburg RCMP lay charges in animal cruelty investigation
An adult female is facing charges after Evansburg RCMP launched an investigation surrounding allegations of mistreatment of horses on a rural property. RCMP began a criminal investigation after receiving reports of starving horses on a property. On January 4, 2019, an adult female resident of the property was arrested without incident. Wildfire near Robb not extinguished
Wildfire EWF121, located approximately 14 km northeast of Cadomin and 10 km south of Robb, remains Under Control after being detected on December 14. Edson Landfill fire continues to burn -- Large or commercial loads of dry material will not be accepted for now --
On December 22, the Edson Fire Department was made aware of a fire originating from the Edson Landfill. The fire was brought under control and landfill reopened shortly after, but the fire continues to smolder. “It's kind of underneath, so it's really hard to extinguish fully,” explained Town of Edson Communications Coordinator Steve Bethge. “What they're doing is capping the fire" - See the January 14, 2019 issue of The Weekly Anchor for the full story.
