Well hello 2019! I know I'm a little behind as we are well into January. I returned last week from a wonderful beach vacation. As expected this last week was a bit of a scramble to catch up and return calls, emails etc. I'm enjoying a new workshop call the Joy Sessions. I am taking these from my fellow photographer friend and joy coach, Jillian Schecher. I'm opening up to trying new things for 2019. Personally as well as in my business. Looking forward to many adventures. Hope you are all having a great start to 2019 and I will share some promos and images this week.
Saying good bye to 2018 with a puppy session. I will be welcoming 2019 with a kitten session.
It's the purrrrrrfect day for posting a festive cat portrait. If you are on Instagram you can see this beautiful kitty and her brother in their best holiday sweaters. Merry Christmas.
I am almost ready to call it a wrap on 2018! I just have a few more print orders at the lab which will likely be ready tomorrow. Then it is a couple more shoots and some boring old book keeping over the holidays. It's been a great year and I look forward to new adventures in 2019. I will have some new products and services to offer and I am really excited to share those. I just have to tweak my skills and get set up. It will likely be spring before can I share them. Thanks for all the great comments, sessions and share. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!
This years Christmas image was my attempt at one of those cheesy wishes I recall seeing when I was growing up. You know the ones businesses would put in the paper or on the TV to wish their clients happy holidays. They always had a winter scene and the business logo layer on top. Haha. This was my attempt at that. A little cheesy nostalgia. Rick pointed out that there was one element missinga white vignette. Haha it's true. That would of made it a perfect flash to the past.
It's amazing what one can get done when they get up 3 hours before their alarm. Haha. Tax prepayment, check. Images retouched, check. Images uploading to the lab to print, check. Busniess Insurance renewal, check. Invoicing and emails, check. And it's only 7:45am. I am going to have some free time today!
And here is a shot from an outdoor session last weekend. It was mild, the snow didn't look like muck and the sun was shining! AND there was a horse!
Summer and Fall right up to Christmas is a busy time in this industry. Mix in a bunch of home renovations and priorities have to shift continually and personal project get pushed to the side. But things are turning around and I am slowing getting back to those Photogs & Their Dogs sessions I photographed during the summer. If you head over to my website (J Shantz Photography - Personal Project) you can read about Chelsea and her 3 dogs! Thanks for the fun rainy evening Chelsea!
You know the Secret Santa for Seniors tree at London Drugs? I always feel there is one key thing missing from the tags where the seniors list their wishes. Favorite color. I find I spend a lot of time wondering if I have made the best color choice. Neutral is fine but if you had a favorite color listed it would be a more personal touch. Anyway, there are still lots of tags on the tree if you want to take part and help make a seniors Christmas a little more joyous.
Custom Tree ornaments, a fun way to add your family to the tree.
This handsome guy came into the studio to mark his 2nd birthday. He is a sweet and silly Boxer mix. Happy Birthday Bruiser!
Between home reno's (which are almost done) and work there seems to be little free time to unwind. I am looking forward to wrapping up the next 2 weeks of shooting and 3 weeks of computer time before putting the gear down for the holidays. My final shoots for 2018 are an interesting mix. There will be indoor and outdoor sessions, cats, dogs and a horse - not all at 1 session. And wrapping it all up with a couple of business portraits. Variety keeps things interesting!
I have some exciting ideas for 2019 and look forward to learning some new techniques to bring into my business.
Planning to book a session in 2019? Book before 11am tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov 27) and receive a $100 credit toward your product order. You will also receive access to the 2018 price list in 2019. Just a little point of clarification as I have had a couple of people ask. You don't actually have to pick your 2019 date today. You just have to pay the session today.
Stay tuned
I am sure you have all been slammed with emails and ads for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I know my inbox has been getting a workout. Lets not forget the most important one, Giving Tuesday! Take all those savings and make your favorite charity happy too. There are lots of options! Animal rescue, the food bank, making Christmas a little better for the kids, families or seniors out there struggling The list is endless.
Putting together a "Black Friday" promotion for my newsletter followers. If you're not on the newsletter list head over to the website sign up! It's going to be a good one.
And here's Charlie giving you a tongue out Tuesday!
Earlier this week Molly had dental surgery. She is a mix of those breeds notorious for bad teeth. Despite my attempt to keep her teeth clean with brushing, she had to have 9 extractions. As you can see here she is feeling great and attempting to mooch, it was only 24 hrs after I picked her up. They sure do bounce back quick.
This years Regional PPOC Image Competition submission. They have now been though all the judging so I can share. As you can see I branched out and sent some human shots in for judging. I will likely send my group and figure study on to Nationals as they have already scored a merit. The group image is my best in class trophy winner. The other 2 I may send or I may not. I often change my mind on images that only score accepted. Depends on my mood! Haha. And no the figure study did not get censored when it went to comp. It only got censored for sharing here because FB and IG don't like nipplesinsert eye roll here.
Sometime you are perusing through your files and you find something that makes you laugh really loud to yourself. 😂
I've had a couple inquiries over the last week about Christmas Minis. I won't be doing them this year. Far to many things going on and I wasn't able to dedicate a time for them. Next year!
I did a new portrait of my 2 favorite guys!
Trying to decide which I like better. Color or B&W
Enjoying the fall colors in today's edits. Makes me forget winter is settling in outside.
Before our beloved Milo passed away from cancer. Jill did a family photo session with our dog Milo. She did such an amazing job. Not only is she a great photographer, but she's also a great person. She was very professional, kind, respectful and genuine. Her skills are amazing. If you are looking for a great professional photographer to take your pets photo, she is definitely the photographer you're looking for. She also has pets of her own, so she also really does understand the human- animal companionship bond. She definitely has a passion for taking photos with animals. Thank you so very much Jill for the wonderful and awesome photos of Milo, you certainly did an amazing job. We will cherish them forever.
Jillthanks so much for making this such an easy and enjoyable experience! I'll bring my puppies next time so they can get some updated photos too! You're awesome and I highly recommend J Shantz Photography!
We have had two portrait sessions done with Jill. One with our little basset hound Gus, and an engagement session. We were so impressed by her work that we asked her to photograph our wedding. Jill and Brittany did an amazing job with our wedding photos! We had lots of fun, they captured all the special moments of the day, and were prompt with getting the photos to us. I would definitely recommend J Shantz Photography.
Jill, your pet photography is beyond amazing. I think you are pretty much in a class all of your own.
Jill is excellent to deal with, and so much fun to do a photoshoot with! Love her artistry!
Thanks Jill for photographing our zoo! The photos are remarkable, and will be treasured for a very long time! ❤️
Amazing photographs! Very relaxed and fun session!
