Good article and video on five innovative corporations, “at the forefront of a monumental change in the renewable energy market”, who are purchasing renewable energy VPPAs (42.5 MW) and why.
Interesting interview with BlackRock’s CEO Larry Fink’s linking company value and social responsibility. At $6.4 trillion, BlackRock is the world’s largest asset manager. Says Fink, "To prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial performance, but also show how it makes a positive contribution to society." His reasoning is fiscal, rather than normative.
City of Edmonton commits to 100% renewable energy by 2030

Thanks to Clean Energy Canada for letting our CEO Dan Balaban share his journey into renewable energy. We're excited for the growth in this industry!
Regarding the upcoming Renewable Electricity Program, "it’s a good bargain for Albertans, as the contracts will act as hedges, protecting consumers from rising electricity prices. It would be hard to find anyone willing to sign a 20-year contract for a natural gas plant at a similar price."
Robert Murray was just at the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity and said, "Carbon capture and sequestration does not work. It’s a pseudonym for ‘no coal.’ It is neither practical nor economic, carbon capture and sequestration. It is just cover for the politicians, both Republicans and Democrats that say, ‘Look what I did for coal,’ knowing all the time that it doesn’t help coal at all."
Study found that with the US Federal tax incentives solar + lithium ion batteries should be cheaper than a new natural gas peaker plant in 2018.
Our CEO Dan Balaban had a good day in Germany visiting our turbine manufacturer yesterday. Who would've thought one of the most successful wind developers in Alberta had never been atop a turbine!
Sounds windy!
Is this how young Albertans feel too?
India has just cancelled nearly the same amount of coal plants as Alberta has installed generating capacity - 14 GW. This is following the acknowledgement that their existing coal is no longer economically viable.
Coal can no longer compete against renewables on cost.
Watch our CEO cover some of the important questions around renewable development in Alberta
"Alberta has some of the best wind resources in the world and the best solar resources in Canada." - Dan Balaban
Greengate is excited to help power up renewable energy in Alberta!
Turbulent times.
Bo knows football. Calgary knows energy.
