I wish I could tell you if food was good, but we waited to be seated, nobody came to seat us. We decided to go sit and wait, nobody came to serve us. Not even a look, wave or a hey will be right with you from bartender. I have never walked out of restaurant until I went to this place. No service, not even a hint of service, place was open but nobody other than disinterested bartender seemed to work there.

We ordered nachos, and salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings were plain flavourless with no salt or pepper, dry and overcooked, the nachos were ok, the salsa was more like a smooth textured tomato sauce and the guacamole I've found better in a jar. Poorly put together food especially for the prices. I was really very dissapointed

Wow..great place. Service was excellent and prices were way more reasonable than most places in Banff.
Had the Chili Rellanos. Now I have had this at close to 30 different Mexican restaurants and this one is top 3 for sure. It's my favorite Mexican meal and was very happy with it here.
Other meals we had we're great too. Kids meals were a great size for the price as well.response / report this review -

Although they tried hard with the decorations to seem authentic, they missed the mark with the music, but that was just the first seconds of walking into the restaurant. The enchiladas were flower tortillas, canned refried beans from the corner store and what I can only assume to be Uncle Bens Mexican Style rice. The meal was the worst excuse for Mexican food I've ever had. It was something you would expect a college student to make you in their dorm. Although it cannot pass as restaurant food, it was priced at a quality restaurant price! You'll have better luck at the grocery store Deli. Absolutely not worth it.

Great food. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed, but most of all we really appreciated the genuine conversation. She answered all the questions we had about the park. Thank you. I highly recommend eating here for dinner. I really liked the enchiladas! My wife, being a vegetarian, really enjoyed the quesadillas.

My mam recommended this place so when we made our trip to Banff we decided to try it. The food is gorgeous and staff very friendly. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, a great place to eat and drink.

The food and atmosphere of Magpie and Stump was to be expected—generous portion sizes for Mexican fare, but the Bulldog drink was disappointing because of a poor margarita base. The service we received was quite poor, and bordering on discriminatory. Our server (a young Australian redheaded girl) was extremely cold toward our table, yet seemed friendly and approachable to the family seated next to us. I can only deduce that our server assumed that my (girl) friend and I are a couple, and was uncomfortable with the situation. This is incredibly offensive, and was very upsetting. We will not be returning.

Always great selection of Mexican dishes never left unhappy. The service staff is always friendly and attentive. The new rooftop patio addition is highly recommended as the weather permits.

Great food, good atmosphere. BE WARNED: if you are using a foreign credit/debit card, their machine charges a premium ON TOP OF the exchange rate and any finance charges your bank issues. Huge money grab

Really enjoyed it. Kitschy decor and music (but they own it). Great cocktails, if at tourist prices, great service and generous portions. Food wasn't too pricey. For those who care was wheel chair accessible except maybe the bathroom.

The Mexican Caribbean food was excellent. The service was good. The place is small and looks like a dive but that is part of the appeal. It is very busy but still relaxed.

A good location to take in some Mexican when you would never expect it. The restaurant is tight for space and in my opinion is probably the only down side of this place. They have great Margaritas​.

It's a great place for dinning and drinks. The atmosphere is amazing and so are the foods and customer service! Foods are reasonably priced. Definitely recommend.

I've been coming to Magpie & Stump for over 15 years. The people are so friendly and the ambiance makes you feel like you're in Mexico. The food is decent. It's not as good as it once was but it's still delicious and filling. I would definitely recommend coming here.
