Worst place I have ever been to. The room service was horrible it took 2 hours for them to come. And then they brought me the absolute opposite, I asked for more shampoo and they gave me some toilet paper. Honestly this is the worst hotel I have ever been to. This place is even worse they don't even come to clean the room when you are not there. Also the rooms are the worst I wanted to have a suite but I ended up getting just a really cramped up with my family. I was looking for a room at least on the same floor as my cousin. But I was at the 1st floor and my friend was on the top floor. And worst of all all of the people who worked at this Howard Johnson was all depressed and annoyed whenever the manager came by. And also to every one else like they were forced to work here.
Cozy and cute hotel. We were served bagels and pastries right when we walked in. I was unhappy when the fitness centre and the computers weren't working. However, the beautiful room we got made up for the discomfort we felt with that. Our room had lovely brick walls; it was just so cozy!
A serviceable options for a short term, low cost accommodation. Nothing outstandingly bad happened to me, but there were many aspects of the hotel that were in disrepair. There were actually large holes in the veneer(?) of the lurching, small elevator. For those interested there were no safe/lock box in the room or any mini-fridges available. There was, however, the lingering odor of stale smoke, dust and something faint with a kick, like a rotting lemon in a gym bag.
In my king sized bed, I discovered a sizable mysterious black mark on the sheets, which seemed faded, implying they were probably washed.
The location is central with great access to Yorkville, but the saving grace was the friendly and personable staff. In dealing with different groups of front-desk staff over the course of three days, I was consistently met with a bright welcoming energy. The team often going out of their way to offer suggestions. Figuratively and literally the light in my Howard Johnson experience, as there were fixtures that were not working in my room.
Conveniently, there is a mall right next door with a whole foods, and most importantly a "Wine Room".
Rustic look to the room. Upgraded to business class and we'll worth it.
Room was very spacious.
The hotel itself could use some maintenance work but overall the staff was excellent, continental breakfast, and WiFi had no issues.
The front door is secured and you need swipe access to gain entry, which is good because it deters prostitution.
Best bang for your buck especially for the area!
Good budget place. The whole building is somewhat run-down, with many minor and cosmetic repairs needed. However, the price was good, the staff wonderful, and the room entirely satisfactory, especially for the price. Again, some minor repairs needed in the room, but all expected facilities (HVAC unit, mid-size TV with cable, coffee maker) worked fine, and the room was properly cleaned. Linens were nice and also clean, bed very comfortable, and curtains were heavy enough to sleep in full daylight. View was obstructed but nice. Bathroom was tiny but fully-stocked and -equipped, and, again, properly cleaned. Parking is underground and doesn't come with room. Single elevator for whole building can mean a bit of a wait. Overall, a solid room for a good price for the budget traveler. Could be lovely if owners put in nearly as much effort as the excellent staff.
One of the worse hotels I stayed in Toronto. Expensive for what it offers, old, smells bad, terrible breakfast, did not have covers enough to sleep (I was freezing there), staff acts like you are in a 5-star hotel, terrible parking at the back, charges you a $100 deposit over the price in case of damage, what is funny because looks like the furniture came from Value Village. I will NEVER step back there. Better sleep in a park.
I would never stay in this hotel again! One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at and I have traveled and stayed in the slums of China. I would give this zero stars if I could.
- Paid $250 per room for the night and we had 6 rooms
- rooms were dirty and 2 rooms had insect problems
- didn't use the showers as they were grimy
- very outdated appearance
- we arrived around noon but could not get any of our rooms until after 4pm
- staff gave us problems when trying to get parking spots
- beds and pillows were uncomfortable and we slept in our clothes
We never expected such poor quality in the swanky area of Yorkville. I would recommend spending another $100 to stay at a better rated hotel.
Staff are nice and friendly but the hotel is in need of some serious updates. While it was cheaper than other options, at $190 a night I was hoping for something a little nicer. Renovations probably haven't been done here since the place was built.
Only about 10 parking spots behind the hotel, first come, first serve. It's also an extra $20 or $30 which I don't believe was disclosed when prebooking. Check in wasn't until 4. Check out at noon but breakfast ended at 9. Room service tried letting themselves in before we even got out of bed. Luckily we had the latch on the door. The bed was decent but decor and overall appearance of the hotel was pretty shabby. On the elevator where there was supposed to be an emergency phone, there was instead an empty beer can and dangling wires.
The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. I have read ratings before that judge the decor as "dated". The decor might be late 80s and early 90s but I spend a lot of time here sleeping and then going out to do my thing in Toronto so I am not that concerned with what pictures are on the wall or what the style of the lamp is next to the bed. My concerns are, " Is it clean? Are all the people friendly? Are all my special requests met? The answer to all these is yes. I like this hotel and I will continue to stay here.
As far as hotels in this area go, it's very standard. Couple of gripes (no way to use vent in washroom, impossible to understand shower), but not a terrible stay. I would suggest spending a little more and going to a different hotel.
Generally not bad. Room was pretty fair and it is in a great location. Hallways and lobby are not really up to standard.
Great price and location. The rooms are a bit dated but are clean and have all of the amenities you'd look for. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We paid $110 for a king bed in Toronto, which was a good deal. Parking was $25, limited and at the beach of the building, with no back entrance to the building. Bed was quite comfy with lots of pillows. Room was spacious. The bathtub was clean but the shower walls were not. Breakfast was included although consisted basically of coffee, tea, and muffins. Overall I would stay here again rather than pay exorbitant rates elsewhere.
Simple hotel with a great price. Good location, parking provided, perfect if you don't want to spend a lot for a place to sleep. The continental breakfast was a little lacking but that may be my American breakfast expectation.
