It was a nice place to stay. One of our party members was injured and they had first aid supplies and we were able to patch her up for the night.

Fantastic hostel! The lounge is just the place to relax after a long day hiking. I will definitely be staying again on my next trip!

Really awesome place! Beautiful setting, all the promised amenities, close to all kinds of amazing hikes. There's no WiFi, but Tony and Alan are both fonts of local knowledge, so you won't feel the need to look much up. Since the dorms hold a lot of people, we often had drunk people coming to bed late and go-getters waking up early. Your sleep will probably be interrupted at some point. Otherwise excellent.

Our group rents out wilderness hostels for family day long weekend for the last ten years. The first time here. The amenities were nice, but we've never had such an anal hostel manager. You can't touch the fire. You can't have a beer after lunch. You can't park by the hostel, but 150m away. Your invoice says 13:00 checkin time but you need to pay me extra in cash or I'm not 'working'. We rent out the whole hostel for a reason. We aren't a gang of 20 year olds. We don't need a rude manager tell us to clean up halfway through the day. We are the only ones here. We will leave the hostel the way we found it. Never had this 'attention' from a wilderness hostel manager in the last 10 years.

This hostel is situated at a wonderful site. The room with fire place is great. Tony helped us a lot. Seen a black bear nearby.

This is one of the best wilderness hostels in Alberta. It's located just off Hwy 1 at Castle Junction, with hiking and skiing very close by. Hostel is always very clean, and has a rustic, honey Canadian vibe. It's smaller and I always am able to meet new people and have peace and quiet or long conversations. My girlfriend and I frequently come here and enjoy snowshoeing or skiing or hiking or any other pursuit we can think of, with close proximity to Lake louse and Banff.

This should be a five star review because the hostel itself is actually beautiful.
The rooms are clean, the showers were clean, and the common room was stunning. A woodburning fireplace with lots of comfortable seating with large windows on three sides could have been the perfect place to enjoy the first snowfall of the year.
We were three couples, who work in teaching, media, and non-profit, all over 25.
But the hostel manager hovered over us uncomfortably our entire stay. We were the only guests at the hostel aside from two other guests known to the manager. As we made dinner, the manager made comments implying he expected us to offer him food. And as we sat down to eat the two guests not in our party helped themselves to our meals.
Just writing that last sentence, I'm in disbelief, but it really happened.
Throughout the night the manager hovered over us while we tried to relax in the common area, interrupting us to ask when we would be leaving in the morning, and to remind us of rules we weren't breaking but just to remind us.
Again, I can't believe I'm writing this, but it's true.
When we woke up he was waiting outside the dorm door to collect our sheets and had asked us the night before that we leave before check-out.
This is a beautiful hostel, but if you're looking to relax, you'd better do it somewhere else.response / report this review
