Beautiful park, a bunch of fishing spots. Make sure you check the opening time as the access road is gated while the park is closed.
I got to the very top of Golden Ears in June of this year and, because we carried up gear to camp, it was one of the most challenging hikes I've ever done. It isn't particularly difficult but it is a relentless incline after you leave the Alder Flats. At about the 9 kilometre mark is where the gnats started to swarm around us but this shouldn't be an issue late in the season and they didn't seem to bite. There was still a lot of snow at the top when we went so be prepared for it up until June. Crampons would help but you don't absolutely need them. People should take care not to go off route after the hut as we noticed a lot of people headed right towards the final peak when you're supposed to head towards the ridge to the east of the final peak and follow the ridge. It is well marked once you get to that point. A very rewarding view at and near the top! A great peak to scramble!
Found this to be a very challenging hike. A large portion of the hike is on a rocky creek bed. There are many steep sections, where you need hands and feet to get up, or down. Good hiking boots are a definite requirement, as well as plenty of water. There was water available near Alder Flats (I believe this is fairly normal) and due to the heavy snowfall last winter, there was still snow at the emergency shelter. The run-off water from there was excellent & greatly appreciated by all hikers. The views were truly amazing. I recommend staying near the shelter overnight, so you can take your time and enjoy the views, rather than hurrying down on the same day. The added benefit is that you get time to rest before heading back down.
Beautiful mountain has clean air and water. The north face has snow until summer.
Pretty beast hike to do in a day. The summit from the emergency shelter looks like a whole new hike. Very worth it! Crushed in 7.5 hours including breaks. 8L water @ 32 degrees.
We didn't make it to the very top, too much snow and not proper gears. But even just from the emergency shelter the view is stunning. Be prepared for a powerful hike. Lot of snow even in the summer.
beautiful!! mayb ill make it to the top someday
Amazing place. One of our favorite picnic spots. Only problem is its always busy; there is not enough parking. The views are spectacular. Take a short walk of 4-5KMs and you have amazing, crystal clear water pools. One of the best places around Vancouver for picnic.
