Great place for costumes and stuffs like that. Went there to buy my Halloween costume, and they have a LOT of accessories. But they also sell a lot of different costumes, and tissues for housing. It's a very nice place, and prices are great. Downside: they don't accept credit cards.

Dressew is always a hit or miss for me. The prices are cheaper but the fabric reflects that. The basement has a musty Oder as a lot of the appliqués have been there since the 80s, however they do have a decent selection.
There also is the best selection of zipper types and colours, tapes, bindings, and other notions in all of Vancouver.response / report this review -

Staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Interested in my project and helped me decide on some options. Strange hours of operation and security following you around like a hawk are the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Understand the location requires security staff to deal with the heavy homeless population in the neighborhood. Despite this the staff are still very friendly. Pricing is reasonable and I won't be going back to a Michaels ever again.

Dressew has everything you could possibly need for any DIY or sewing project. The staff are very knowledgeable and most of them are very friendly and helpful if you ever have questions about something. Their stock is massive - anything you need they will have, or can get. The prices are hard to beat also.
My only qualm, and what prevents me from giving this 5 stars, is the lack of wheelchair access. It's stairs only to get to the lower level. I know it's an older building and having an elevator might not be an option. If there was a ramp or something, anything, that would allow a wheelchair or mobile-impaired person to access the lower level than I would change my rating to 5 stars.response / report this review -

The selection is impressive. You can find things here that you have never heard of. Pricing is reasonable, too.
I found the staff basically friendly, except for the orange-haired lady, who just muttered when I asked something. When I asked politely, "can you repeat it, please?" She looked at me that I'm from a different planet or something. Unpleasant experience. I will try to avoid her next time I go there.response / report this review -

Really the only fabric shop in downtown Vancouver. Not open Sundays. They do have at least one of most things, and often lots! Bargains can be found. Pretty light on their pattern offerings, though: if you need a specific pattern, maybe shop online, as it's unlikely to be available here.

Oh, Dressew. I want to love you, but you treat me so badly.
Dressew is, by square footage, the largest consumer fabric store in BC, occupying a huge old warehouse in a sketchy part of downtown. Unfortunately, everything in the store telegraphs how little they care for their customers - every time I visit, there are stacks unpacked boxes blocking the aisles, often placed right in front of products on shelves, making them impossible to get to. They don't take credit cards, they are only open until 5:15, and the shop is usually dirty. Frequently, older staff snap at me or refuse to move to allow me to pass. Many (not all) staff are very short with customers, almost rude at times. A few staff who are friendly seem to get harassed by the more senior staff.
Dressew's second floor has all of the notions, decorations and decor, and is completely inaccessible, and it really seems like the owners don't care. They haven't even trained staff or come up with a procedure for helping disabled shoppers get what they need, and often, despite how many staff are on the floor at once, they refuse to grab a specific item from downstairs for me. It drives me crazy - I buy fabric there regularly, I know what I need, and they won't even go get the product I want to pay them money for. This week when I was there, I finally found a staff person who volunteered to grab some ribbon for me from the dowstairs level, and she got yelled at by a senior staff member because she left her cutting table - even though nobody was waiting, and I was clearly a customer about to purchase a pile of fabric and needed some ribbon.
Bottom line, it's unacceptable in this day for staff to ask me, "can I help you find anything?" and then tell me what I want is on the lower level and there's no elevator, and then just walk away.
I have to credit a few gems on the staff who are friendly to me every time I come, including the woman who's usually at the till, and another woman who was cutting fabric the last time I was there. Most of the staff are knowledgeable, so if you can handle the snotty indifference of most of them and look past the cluttered, disorganized, dirty store, Dressew is a great place to get fabric and costume items.response / report this review -

Huge selection, they have things you didn't even know you wanted or needed. So many kinds of fabric, ribbon, hardware, dyes, tools - and all more than affordable. 10/10 would recommend to any craftsman not just those who sew.

I love prices for fabric and all the notions this store has in the basement. I find staff aren't always super friendly and unfortunately it's cash and debit only and store isn't open on sundays. But otherwise amazing fabric store!

Some of the fabric is of pretty good quality, but that fabric is not inexpensive. Most of the clearance fabric in the downstairs part of the store is cheap in both price and quality.
The great thing about Dressew is the notions and other sewing tools! I bought a bunch of things such as french curves and pins for at least 5 times cheaper than a store like Fabricland (without a membership).response / report this review -

This store is amazing. Has so many materials for anything. Very useful during October if looking for Halloween costumes. Has very large selection of costumes and accessories only during October.

I'm giving it 3 stars for the location and a sufficient supply of fabrics to choose from. I'd give it five but the staff here are hit or miss. I go to this store on average about three times a week and encounter a grumpy worker there who is always too busy to help at least for two of those visits. They are so miserable! A nice staff member is an anomaly. Go for the location, convenience and selection only.

All of your sewing needs. Their cording/string/macrame supplies/ribbon collection is the best in town. They also have a bunch of weird 90's key chains and funky buttons. They have a huge amount of buttons. Staff is pretty helpful and nice.
