Fantastic hike, amazing views.
Nice hike that is easily accessed, a good work out and replete with great views.
The hike is long and can take up to 8 hours depending on the pace. And the views are breathtaking on a clear day. The difficult varying terrain makes it interesting. The trail begins after the bear dens at the top of Grouse Mountain. Follow the gravel road to the left of the trail that heads up to the wind turbine. For your safety, fill out the backcountry form by the map/info board (in case you're not back by there designated time, they send a rescue team looking for you).
At the end of the road the ascent begins and follow the Alpine trail. Watch for signs that point to Crown Mountain. There will be a steep descent into the valley between Grouse and Crown. Which will ascend steeply on the Crown side. Take your time and be careful to follow markers. There are many exposed sides that can be fatal. Don't joke about leaning over the edge.
I've seen many people up here without the proper foot wear, not enough food, or not enough water. This hike is rated difficult for a reason and it's best to come very prepared, dressed appropriately, and proper footwear. Safety is extremely important and any misstep along the way can be fatal.
Contact me if you need some information on being prepared for this.
Normally I'd review the hike and the views and the experience. But the views were apocalyptic owing to end-of-days smoke from interior wildfires, which made it even more impressive. And, I found that when you put your hand on the highest point, Canada Place plays the national anthem!
