(2017) Fantastic helpful staff! They had good information about lovely trips (like Johnston Canyon). It's situated inside the (old?) train station. There are lovely old pictures from past times.

This is not the main Visitor Centre, just a satellite location. But it's a lot less busy. You can buy Park Passes there and get info on hikes.

The staff here was very helpful, but for someone driving though, there was no place to park. The whole town was full of circling cars looking for a parking spot. Grab a parking spot anywhere you can, as far out as you have to and walk here. Then get out of downtown Banff as fast as possible and back into the wilderness.
