We did the summer kennel tour and had a great time! A van picked us up at the downtown Canmore office and drove us and the other tour participants (14 in total) to the kennel location.
First, the owners: I must say I was initially apprehensive about going on this tour and spending so much money on it -- as someone who has only kept dogs as house pets I had no idea what to expect in terms of animal treatment and care at a place with 180 working dogs. But once we arrived it quickly became apparent that they are very loved and well-cared for, and that the dogs adore the owners in return. I was extremely impressed that they knew every single dog's name and could tell us about their breeds, personalities, their ages, and point out which dogs were their siblings or parents. Additionally, they showed us their very complex feed board that lists each dog and their dietary needs and restrictions, and talked to us at length about calorie consumption and how their diets, routines, and schedules vary with age and throughout the seasons. They were willing to answer any questions we had and clearly are dog lovers and experts.
Second: the dogs! They were incredibly friendly and fun to be around. There are some more shy and rescue ones, but they tend to stay in corners and keep to themselves more.
I felt like I was in a dream, surrounded by so many happy cute dogs wanting to spend time with me. They were adorable and very sweet, and most seemed to immediately warm up to strangers. Many of them wanted to cuddle as well. Some of them will definitely try to jump up onto you so if you are afraid of that this tour might not be for you.
I recommend wearing clothes you don't care about getting dirty or dog-hairy. (Though when we got back to the downtown location, we were even provided with lint rollers to clean off the dog hair!)
All in all, a wonderful experience! I highly recommend it for any dog lover and I would certainly come back here or try their winter sled tours if I return to the Canmore area.response / report this review -

A lot of fun, a real taste of Canada. Book early for larger groups, they provide rentals for winter most winter gear but I recommend a good thermal base layer and wool socks to pack for the trip.

The highlight of our trip!!!! Add this to your bucket list!!! Our kids were blown away and the experience of riding the sleds was just exhilarating, as was crossing the lake, driving a dogsled. It's definitely an adventure and the dogs are so affectionate we were really impressed that this company is active in establishing standards in the sledding industry and they treat their huskies like royalty! I highly recommend this company. Our entire family talks about this as our favourite experience of our time in Canada in 2017.

I had an amazing time at Snowy Owl! We booked the 2 hour Winter tour and it was one the best experiences I've ever done. The Staff was supper friendly and they really do take care of their dogs.

They do not even need to ask for a review. Go try this. Go do this! It is an absolute necessity to experience this. Piloting a sled is easy and an absolutely amazing experience. Staff are kind, helpful and exceptional. 5 stars plus. The only reason it would not get a 10 star rating is the cost, the length of the tour and you can't choose your dog team but definitely a 6 out of 5.

Jeremy was our guide and we had a blast. It was my wife and I taking turns at mushing. We had our 4 year old and 2 year old in the sled. Gorgeous scenery and lots of fun for the kids (and a rush for us adults). My only advice: bring sunglasses or ski goggles for eye protection.

It was a first time sledding for us and the overall experience was fantastic. The people and the dogs were very friendly and knowledgeable. Well organized and coordinated - we definitely would recommend it.

Great experience. Happy to see they treat their dogs so well. Two hour ride was more than enough for me. Remember to bring some money for tips if you think they deserve it!
