TUESDAY TIP: All about the form. Its not just doing the exercise, its doing it with the right formfor best results and injury prevention. Here's a great tricep exercise from the awesome caligirlgetsfit 💪🏻 Let’s get #strongertogether! _ Bringing sexy back?!? 😂 A friend recently complimented me on my "back arms!" And while I was happy about that since I've been working on arm day, those back arms have a name - the triceps! This is one of my all-time favorite tricep exercises to build strength because let's face it, a lot of us don't regularly use those muscles on the daily. _ STANDING TRICEP EXTENSIONS I typically stand hip or shoulder width distance apart, knees slightly bent, abs squeezing, and pressing up using my triceps. Be sure not to use momentum or swinging to get your arms up there. _ NO HUNCHING! Save time for lunching or punching (if you're a boxer), munching or crunching tacos! But never hunching! In the bad form, I'm rounding my spine over in an awkward and painful way, furthermore I'm lifting at a strange angle over my head further stressing my cervical spine. Be sure to keep good posture with this one so you stand tall! Be sure to keep a slight bend in your knees so you don't hyperextend or hang lazily in your joints. _ What do you guys think? Is it time for arm day? 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 #altonahealthcare #healthyliving #health #fitness #caligirlgetsform #armday #exerciseform #exercisemotivation #bbgnewbie #triceps #womensbest #fitnessform #exercisemotivation #workouttips #workout #fitgirls #tricepworkout #livewell #liveyourbest #tuesdaytip

MUSCLE MONDAY: Do you have weak glutes? Glutes are so important for pelvic support during walking, running , jumping..etc. Here's the lowdown from our chiropractor Dr.Salim Mana rehab4you __ The reason it’s important is because it keeps the pelvis at a proper horizontal level. Having the pelvis leveled makes sure the rest of the kinetic chain is in an optimal position. If not, biomechanical changes can happen that can predispose people to injury! __ For example, if the pelvis isn’t stable and it begins to drop the lumbar spine (low back) will begin to curve putting more pressure on one side of the spine. Pain will not occur right away, but in time chronic pain will develop, which will take a longer time to fix. __ Think you have back pain? It may be stemmed from your glutes! Come for a consult and we'll take care of the rest! . . . #altonahealthcare #chiropractor #physiotherapy #massagetherapy #health #fitness #glutes #muscles #musclemonday #mondaymessage #strong #livestrong #livewell #wellness #liveyourbest

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: The mind body connection is incredibly strong. If you are constantly stressed it will be reflected in your body and it's ability work and heal correctly. Stress will break you down! If you've never meditated before or think it's "not for me" you might want to reconsider. It is extremely beneficial for reducing stress and overall well being and it's as easy as sitting and breathing with the intention of letting go of stress and negative thoughts. - Sit on a chair, floor, or mat. Wherever you are comfortable sitting for 5-10 mins with minimal movement. Close your eyes and place your hands comfortably on your lap. Take a few deep breaths to relax and then breathe normally. The mind will wonder and that is perfectly alright. It's not about clearing your mind of thoughts it is about reconnecting to something consistent and ongoing like breathing. If thought's come into your mind simplify acknowledge them and then go back to focusing on the rise and fall of your chest/stomach as you breathe. If your mind wanders and you only reconnect to the breath once in your 5 mins session, you've had a successful session. Release stress, judgement, and negative thoughts then go on with your day with a new perspective! Doctors orders!

TUESDAY TIP: Follow the pizza for the perfect plank :) Thanks to @caligirlgetsfit for this tip on proper form. Always look at the 🍕 on the ground (or add your own favorite food) when planking! _ Someone recently asked me if it REALLY is that important to keep a cervical spine when planking (because I'm always talking about this), and the answer is yes! If you don't believe me, I've sketched a little picture over my leggings of what your spine is actually doing when planking correctly / vs what it looks like when you plank with bad form! Ouch! That hyperextended cervical spine and hips down low like a banana does not look comfy! And while it takes core strength to keep your body in line as you get stronger every day, don't forget to also keep your cervical spine neutral so you don't injure your neck. _ If you want to get technical, here's some info from my friend the rehab expert @vinnierehab: cervical hyperextension puts a lot of strain on your neck, notably your suboccipitals as well as your SCM muscles! So many people hyperextend their neck on everything (deadlifts, push-ups, squats, etc.) that it's definitely something to watch out for! _ So remember next time you're planking Eyes looking slightly in front of you Keep your eye on the prize! 🍕💕 _ Tag a friend who likes to plank! _ #altonahealthcare #health #wellness #tuesdaytip #caligirlgetsform #plank #plankchallenge #exerciseform #exercisemotivation #bbgnewbie #womensbest#fitness #fatloss #weightloss #challenge #training #trainhard #motivation #summer #challenge #winter #personaltrainer #instructor #coach #mobility #yoga #fitXsearch

MONDAY MESSAGE: Turn that frown upside downand don't mask it, fix it. Thanks to our chiropractor Dr.Salim Mana @rehab4you for this one.

Many people rely on the use of prescription/over-the-counter medication to solve headaches, joint pain and/or soft tissue injuries. It’s be proven time and time again that abusing pain reducing drugs may cause detrimental side effects and slowly damage internal organs. Instead turn to alternative care such as chiropractic care, massage therapy, physical therapy, acupuncture…etc to treat conditions. Masking the problem doesn’t get permanent results. . . . #altonahealthcare #health #wellness #headache #muscle #joint #pain #prevention #chiropractor #massagetherapy #treatment #livewell #liveyourbest #toronto #scarborough #pickering #mondaymessage #motivationmonday #alternativemedicine #feelgood #painfree

FIESTA FRIDAYwith some crunches thanks to @caligirlgetsfit

When I train abs and do reverse crunches, I always think: crunch like a taco (the hard-shelled crispy ones) 🌮, don't roll like a burrito 🌯! And while both of these delicious food items are awesome in my belly, I want to keep the roll out of my crunch! 😂 lol. _ The reverse crunch when done correctly will not aggravate the lower back, won't create hyperextension in the neck like sit-ups or crunches, and can actually help with posture to correct lumbar lordosis All while strengthening the abs. It's one of my faves for all those reasons! _ STRAIGHT OR BENT LEGS ARE BOTH CORRECT Whether you do these with straight or bent legs, the main point of this exercise is to be sure to be using your abs to crunch upwards. Your head, shoulders and back should remain on the floor, not lifting up. THINGS TO WATCH FOR The main thing to watch for that can take the benefits away from this is using momentum to kick your legs up. Sure, momentum can drive the force of this, but you won't be using your abs! The key is to do this using the abdominals, slowly and controlled. Kicking backwards with momentum could injure you especially if you use too much force and end up rolling back, putting weight on your cervical spine. _ Hope that helps your next ab day! Now guess what's on the menu today? It's taco 🌮🌮🌮 Friday! #altonahealthcare #caligirlgetsform #crunches #exerciseform #exercisemotivation #bbgnewbie #coreworkout #womensbest #fitnessform #exercisemotivation #bbg #workouttips #workout #fitgirls #healthyliving #fitness #health #liveyourbest

SLEEPY SUNDAY: Go to bed! ;)

Thanks to our chiropractor Dr.Salim Mana @rehab4u for this much needed reminder.

People know sleep is important, but do they really know why sleep benefits them. Research says 7-8 hours is the recommended sleeping window that an adult should get to collect all of it's benefits. ____ The benefits of sleep are the following: 1) Improve memory 2) Live longer 3) Curb inflammation 4) Promote creativity 5) Enhance athletic ability 6) Improve intellectual capacity 7) Sharpen attention 8) Promotes a healthy weight 9) Lower stress levels 10) Prevents tired mistakes 11) Prevents depression ___ Sometimes peoples lives don't allow them to reach the sleep they need, which can cause them to suffer. If you're a person who feels like they don't get enough time for 8hrs, at least try and sneak in another 1hr of sleep it'll be worth it. . . . #altonahealthcare #chiropractic #physiotherapy #massagetherapy #holistic #health #wellness #nutrition #sleep #rest #gotobed #rest #relaxation #body #mind #soul #liveyourbest #toronto #scarborough #pickering #community #care #sunday #sundaymood #sleepysunday

MUSCLE MONDAY: HAMSTRINGS Credit to our chiropractor Dr.Salim Mana @rehab4you

Three muscle are within the hamstring group: semimembranosus, semitendinosus and bicep femoris. . . Action: Hip extension, knee flexion, internal and external rotation of the knee Origin: Ischial tuberosity Insertion: Head of the fibula, lateral condyle of the tibia and pes anserine. . . This muscle is a very common to strains in sports. The usual reason why this muscle gets injured is due to a lack of strength in a lengthened position. It happens a lot in running sports when the athlete plunges forward with the lead leg and the hamstring is in a lengthened position. . . Stages of treatment: Phase 1: Decrease pain and inflammation Phase 2: Establishing range of motion Phase 3: Gradual strengthening Phase 4: Agility work and eccentric training. . . Hurt your hamstring? GREEN THUMB THURSDAY :) It's that time of year Here are some tips on how to avoid injury while doing your yard work . 1. When you are planting and weeding, try to keep your back straight, and take a break every 15 to 20 minutes to protect your knees and lower back. 2. Pruning- Get as close as possible to the things you are pruning invest in long handle shears to reach plants and bushes that are beyond normal reach, avoid excessive twisting or reaching, or reaching overhead. 3. Picking up heavy items - To lift heavy bags of soil, or other items, bend your knees to engage your leg muscles. This will reduce stress on your neck, shoulders and back. If you are in pain, please give us a call - we are here to help ☀️🌸💮🏵️🌹🌻🌼🌷🌳🌺🌾 . . #altonahealthcare #chiropractic #care #health #wellness #healing #behealthy #alignment #alignyourspine #gardening #chiropractor #livepainfree #liveyourbest

TUESDAY TIP: Hangover Workouts Yay or Nay? The long weekend is over and some us may have had a glass or two or three more than usualand are now feeling it! While we don't recommend a full fledged “workout” when hungover, a brisk walk outdoors, a light jog or some yoga and stretching would probably be a better option. If you’re dead set on hitting the gym though, here are a few things to consider. You are already dehydrated. Drink a liter of water right away when you wake up and then another one with your breakfast. Focus on protein, complex carbs and fruit. The cysteine in eggs is great for breaking down toxins. The vitamins, minerals and electrolytes in fruit are necessary to ensure your water is getting absorbed properly. Bananas are a great choice. Coffee will wake you up and boost your metabolism. . Once you are at the gym, get nice and warmed up. Do some light cardio and mobility exercises. This will be the final test of whether the workout will happen or not. If you’re feeling sick or dizzy, it’s not too late to call the workout off. Don’t be a hero 🚫 . Try and stick to simple movements where form isn’t quite as important - just try to move and sweat a bit. You shouldn’t be lifting super heavy either. Work in the higher rep ranges. Remember to keep drinking water throughout the workout and afterwards, as well. . Some people feel much better after a workout and some people don’t even make it through. You know your body best so do what feels right for you. Just remember to be careful and maybe take it easy the night before you workout next time 😉

Over 14 years I had received multiple diagnoses for my knee pain. I was getting frustrated since nobody had offered any concrete solution and the pain had started becoming a barrier in my life. Upon a friends suggestion I contacted Dr. Solanki at Altona Physio and Chiro. In 2 sessions my knee started getting better, After second session I was able to briskly walk for 35 minutes non stop, my knee felt completely relaxed, I don’t have any pain now. I have a 4 year old child, I was unable to help him with anything that would require me to sit on the floor. Today after 14 yrs I was able to sit down and help my child with his shoes. Dr Solanki has magic in his hands. He is very easy going, friendly and approachable. His knowledge and skills are solid. I am more than 100 % satisfied with his services
