Beautiful monastery to visit
Gangteng Gonpa was founded in 1613 by Gyalse Pema. While entering Phobjikha Valley - your eyes will be drawn to this imposing structure atop a hill virtually ruling the beautiful valley.
The winter visitors from the heavens - the black-necked cranes, would surely be using this monastery as a landmark during their inflight.
The trellis work within the monastery is wonderful and intricate. The prayer room houses demons in different forms that were captured and brought under control by the Guru Rinpoche incarnate. With reverence one must tour and respect this culture rich trove.
If you can witness the Black-Necked Crane Festival it is an amazing chance to visit the monastery and the valley. The festival last one day and includes many different performances mainly by the population from the valley. A good occasion to enjoy local festivities.
A “must visit” place
The most beautiful monastery
A serene place for people from the busy cities and towns. From this place you can have a view of the Black mountain ranges of Bhutan and the beautiful valley around. This place is visited by the famous endangered black necked cranes during winter starting from October. The cranes go round the monastery during their migration.
Special functions are conducted in the monastery during Crane festival and Tsechu festival every year.
Great and piece full
Place not to missed while in Bhutan 👍👍👍
Awesome Place, pretty interesting story behind the monastery. Located in Central Bhutan, in the famous Phobjhikha Valley, which is famous for Black Necked Cranes, in the Wangdue Phodrang district, is a must visit place. This place is famous for Tantric Buddhism. Must visit, especially during winters.
