Went here a few times during my stay in Sydney. I can vouch that this place is good in terms of quality. The price is very reasonable by the standards of Sydney.
Most of my steak was nicely done according to my preferance and the presentation was taken care of every bit to the detail. I am a big fan of the Jack Daniel's nip, Surf & Turf and the Meat Tasting Plate, a must order over almost every visit!
The restaurant had a posh ambience and the interior was carefully curated in terms of design. I was often attended by Nick but the whole team was helpful and attentive. This is the plus point to all my visits.
Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a good steak house in Sydney!
Having lunch at Prime was fabulous, My family and I enjoyed the experience. Of course I ordered their Angus steaks with sauce. Great portions served by a friendly , knowledgeable staff. Its an absolute pleasure to dine at Prime again.
This was a good steak restaurant with quality meats that where advertised and the services was very good. My only reason for the 4 star is the dry aging and grilling wasn't up to my expectations. I know this is not NYC and the chef is French and the food clearly shows this. But the advertising may have thrown me off and expected to have deeper dry aged tastes. The cuts that where aged where the leaner meats and they where very tender as a result. But the deep beef tastes I hope for wasn't there and I prefer meat that is charred and carmalized. They pdid pride on low char methods so I won't argue just not my preference. Didn't get to try the more marbled cuts or wagyu.. But none of those dry aged .. I'm sure they'd be great though. Again overall tasty and a classy place.
It's got to be one of the best steak restaurants in Sydney. We dine here on a regular basis with our family. Definitely recommend this place for anyone taking out their mrs for anniversary or other special occasions. The vibe here is just relaxed and the food melts with every bite.
Exquisite meal and top class service. By jesus this place is expensive but it lives up to it Wines beautiful, steaks are absolutely mealt in the mouth cooked to perfection. Had the grass fed scotch fillet with house chips and pepper sauce. Well you get like 4 chips but they were good, never the less the steak was perfect.
Was told I wouldn't find a better steak in Sydney and yet that was an understatement to what was served in the restaurant. Unflawed!
Team dinner at GPO Prime Steak Restaurant
Everybody was thrilled by the quality meat. Worth it to treat yourself every once in a while.
Unfortunately the "chef" took it upon himself to trim all the fat from the steak without asking - unbelievable. All they could offer was a free drink after rendering a $100 steak near worthless. I would advise future diners to demand inspection of all cuts upon ordering. Additionally the wait staff were all french and chinese with limited english - not good enough for a restaurant charging these prices
The food is reasonably high quality but it's no where near the best steak in Sydney. And the "30 to 40 minute" wait (which we were warned about not sure why the restaurant was empty) was ludicrous.
The broccolini was overcooked and had hardly any flavour, the potatoes were potatoes the mushroom sauce was salty and had a button mushroom flavour of some kind - nothing amazing.
The wine list is ok, a few wines by the glass. Some stupidly overpriced international drops and a good selection of local wines by the bottle (starting around $70).
Friendlier service would have been preferred, and we didn't need to be offered desert multiple times.
So I recently had the privilege of trying Meat and Wine Co, and almost declared it the best steak house in Sydney. Then I came back to Prime @ GPO, my benchmark for steak. Man was I wrong, Prime just took it to another level. 1.5kg grass fed tomahawk. Wow. Just wow. The flavour is out of this world. And the Waygu, so tender. The Ying to the Tomahawks Yang. Two of the best duking it out for top honours. Think the tomahawk won by a nose. So much flavour. Amazing. Oh and the entrees and dessert were fantastic too. As were the wait staff. But let's be honest. Of you come here it's all about about the steak so do yourself a favour. Gather some mates, come for a pig out. You're welcome!
It was spendid the lovely English manger took such excellent care of me and not in the hovering way he was absolutely lovely you have to try the squid entree it's to die for!
Future Michelin Star!
Recommend booking a reservation more than 2 days in advance.
The steak is just superb. It's variety of different levels of marble steak is authentic and impressive. The meat is smooth, juicy and flavoursome.
Their wine selection is spectacular as well!
They have over 200 different types of wines and this doesn't include their hard liquor.
Get the truffle mash potatoes! Get 2!(
Not many places you can get Wagyu steak of this quality. Expect to pay dearly for it, though.
Fancy restaurant with a great subdued heritage ambience.
Staff were friendly, atmosphere was romantic, huge wine list from all over the world.
I ordered a nice burgandy that was recommended by the sommelier and accompanied well with the Wagyu streak.
Desserts were ok but but amazing, I would go back for sure.
First time to this restaurant and had my 5th wedding anniversary dinner. Was an amazing experience. Entree's were fantastic (Sydney rock oysters and seared scallops were delicious). Service was superb, especially by manager Will. Extremely attentive, they had replaced my main, full blood wagyu 9+, when i had mentioned it was a little salty without any hesitation at all. They also threw in two glasses of red wine for free to ensure that my wife and i enjoyed the dining experience. Chocolate tart desert was to die for, accompanied with matching desert wine. An expensive meal all up, but with the service and quality of food, i can definitely recommend. Will definitely return for a special occasion.
