Looking a bit scruffy in certain areas They could possibly invest in a couple of brooms and show the staff how to use them ! Numerous areas were closed off too so we didn't get to see everything despite paying for full price tickets. One of the elephant viewing areas was a huge puddle It wouldn't have taken a minute to clear it with one of the brooms they obviously haven't got ! The good bits are excellent but the poor bits certainly let the zoo down. The manager needs to get out the office & have a good look around !!

The Zoo is an amazing place to visit. Today the weather was perfect and the animals were very active. The gardens are fantastic and so well kept.

Wonderful zoo with lots of flora and fauna in a big open space. This zoo has lots to offer for visitors. I particularly enjoyed myself watching the giraffes, the tigers, the lions, gorillas, the ever curious meerkats and the playful hyenas.
Food is moderately priced, but it would be nice to bring your own picnic n chill on the lawn.
I went to the zoo again with my son on Saturday (beautiful weather!) and we were excited to see that they had a Trolls party event going on for zoo members. Members were supposed to receive an email on it, but we did not receive any email on this event. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves.
Plus for families who do not drive, the train station (Royal Park) is just a convenient minute’s walk from the zoo.response / report this review -

My baby had a really good time and was fascinated by the animals, mainly big ones as she's only 13 months old. the best part was seeong the giraffes, zebras, lions and elephants. The rest is overrated. The place was very crowded on a Saturday, we could barely walk around. We barely saw the tigers as people were jammed there. So, I suggest you go as early as possible to stroll and watch quietly. To make things worse, what started as a sunny day turned to a crazy rainy and muggy day. I know it's typical of this city; just saying check the forecast on different sites. it's alright, not worth the money though.

Gift shop at the entrance is quite over-priced. Kind of expected. Lots of things to see in a compact area, great for my parents who cannot walk too much. Some parts are still under renovation unfortunately. Quite a bit of thoughtful design for kids as well. Overall it is a good place to visit.

One of the best things to do in Melbourne! Beautiful zoo. Well priced for a day activity. Go in nice weather. Loved the butterfly house!

Great zoo!! Gorgeous gardens and many interesting and exciting exhibits. Nice and quiet today (monday/not school hols). Take you're own lunch/drinks as food is poor and pricey.

Good value for money, expansive layout to keep you busy exploring. Nice little play areas for kids. Parking was a little bit of an effort to find a spot, until they opened up one of the overflow areas, but at $2 for 5hrs it was fair.

Amazing zoo! It is very nicely planned, developed and maintained. Plenty of interesting exhibits to spend your time at.

Beautiful scenery, very relaxing during the week. Can feel over crowded during weekends and school holidays. The yearly membership is very good value for money and can have ticket price deducted from membership price if bought within two weeks. Highly recommended but make sure you buy membership if going more than 3 times a year. Fantastic for kids.

Big zoo with many different animals. Inside the zoo, there is specific area that you can experience a great time with lemurs walking around you. The restaurant was good as well and the entrance is not expensive. I really enjoyed my day there.

The Melbourne Zoo is amazing! there is so much to see and do and we were unable to get through it all in one day. We will be returning very soon. fun day out for the family and kids are free on weekends!

Get the yearly membership if you go often. Our little one loves coming here and I must admit we adults don't mind it either. You also get admission to the other 2 zoo's in Victoria and other ones interstate like Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Don't go there during school holidays though it can get quite crowded. Well done Melbourne Zoo with your conservation efforts

Excellent day out with the kids and its great to see some great improvements to the enclosures over the last few years. Heaps of animals out to see and displays. Being school holidays there was heaps of other visitors out, to my suprised the layout flows really well and there was almost no delays. Only down side is the cost of food, take your own.

I really enjoyed most aspects of this zoo. You can get close to a lot of animals which makes the experience something special. But some animals like the lion and tiger area only had the one in each and you could see they were distressed pacing up and down in one area making it hard to stomach and also hard to enjoy the animal. In site being my first time to the zoo that this doesn't happen often. But overall I really loved it. I'll be back a lot with the family and I'll enjoy myself even more.
