Family friendly place with good facilities. As it is quite big and there’s not many trees at some parts, it can get quite hot in summer - make sure to bring a hat and plenty of water. May be quite tiring for little ones to finish off the entire zoo in one day too. The safari is great as a break in the middle of the walk. Be prepared to expect most animals sleeping during the day and not much action.

Went there thinking this is going to be boring. Left 5 hours later really impressed with what we saw. The range and type of animals was impressive. The open range area has many animals living in harmony, obviously predarors were in separate areas. The dangerous animals were in places that allowed you to get up close without being in danger but you could appreciate their size and ability. We wish we had more time. One thing was that when we were there a lot of schools were visiting and the staff kept them busy and separate so they in no way interfered with our enjoyment.

Really great experience, would recommend doing the smaller bus for the safari tour even though it's a bit pricey, it was truly amazing. Only thing was the first little bit of the park was a little boring, would be nice to have another enclosure towards the front. As well the tortoise was the a little hard to find and it wasn't clear that it might be in the inside area to is closed after a certain time so we didn't prioritize it.
Still had an amazing day and the safari was by far the most amazing part as well as see the feed the hippos.response / report this review -

You will feel that you are in a safari when you go to the Werribee Open Range Zoo.
There are a lot of spaces for a picnic, so pack a picnic and enjoy your time on the greens. There is a marvelous playground that your little person will enjoy, while you chill on the lawn.
A must do is the safari ride, where you will come close to the beautiful residents of the zoo.
The lion enclosure is simply amazing and you will feel as if the lions are just in front of you.response / report this review -

Very, very family oriented and friendly. So many places for kids to play, plenty of water refilling stations and bathrooms, plenty of cafes and places to eat a packed lunch. It's essentially a giant playground for kids with a few sleeping animals in-between the different play areas. This zoo is essential to do if you have kids. If not I'd probably go to the main Melbourne zoo instead as there seemed to be more animals there. Safari that was included in the ticket price was probably the highlight of the day.

Werribee Open Range Zoo — highly recommended for taking kids out. In every corner there’s always something for kids to explore. Great for little explorer to tickle their curiosity.
There’s Safari bus tour that the kids would loves to jumps on. As the bus drives through the savanna, the kids would love to waves and calls all the animal name that they see along the way. Such a great way of mixing learn and play. This place is huge, as the tour leader says, this place sizes of 2 victoria’s zoo. Loving the landscapes that imitate African savanna’s where the animals could run free.
One thing that i notice, the animals looks so much happier here than they’re in Melbourne zoo. Kids under 3 free entry and kids 4-15 yo free entry on weekends and school holiday. I would recommend this place to everyone especially for family with kids. They wouldn’t want to go home 😅 #truestory 😂.
Make sure to come here sooner and plan your visit, check their website to see the activities’ time as there’s a lot of activities to do and lots of things to explore. Pram friendly and there’s a pram stop if you decide to leave your pram while taking the safari bus tour.response / report this review -

Used to go here all the time as a kid, it has changed so much but still offers such a unique but quality experience. I love the idea of an open range zoo, everything is so well looked after, and the included safari tour is great. I really recommend going.

Safari tour was great but the rest of the exhibits are abit too free-ranging so it's hard for little kids to see the animals. Still a great experience. Also have a nice outdoor playground within the zoo which is always good for kids. Food at the cafe was surprisingly really good so all in all a good half day spent.

What a fabulous Experience! We did the overnight Slumber Safari. Renee & Emily were amazing hosts. We didn't know what to expect but had nothing to worry about. Accommodation was extremely comfortable and warm, meals were delicious and the zoo experience was amazing. We would go again in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a unique and fun experience!

There is a racist staff today. It was pouring rain. Exiting from the store, my son left early and I would just like to take a picture, so we came back from the exit making sure not to be a hindrance to other visitors. This zoo staff came and started talking really loud saying we cant go back and forth as she thought we came back because it is raining outside and she forced us to leave the store. I did not say a word since I understand that she must be just doing her job, so outside store waiting for the rain to stop, there she is! letting Australian's coming in from the exit. Very upsetting. Could she please explain what just happened.

The best open range zoo which is good for a relaxing family trip.. A very natural wildlife setting.. We won't find lot of animals but whatever is setup in the zoo gives us a wonderful experience.. Don't miss the Safari trip!

Come rain or shine it's a lovely layout, take good walking shoes. You can see the Silverback Gorillas from the entrance and along your walk to the other animals. There are free safari buses that take you to see animals enjoying large habitats. They have a lot of interactive elements for children, pram parking and friendly staff. If you worry about the appearance of animals locked up in cages then this is the zoo to put you at ease, but beware of sleeping schedules

I love this place because you don't need to go so far or pay lots of money for air tickets to see African animals. Just 30 minutes away from Melbourne City center. You can have fun in 40 minutes safari bus tour , looking at so many animals. This bus can take up to 140 people per tour.
With educational and entertaining features this zoo has a African village. There is a learning center too.response / report this review
