Shabby chic, in an old mansion. Maintenance issues make it more shabby than chic. It's also a bit of a rabbit warren. But it's comfortable, with helpful and pleasant staff. Most rooms have private bathroom/toilet, but it's down the hall and your room key is required, so only you can use it. Some family rooms have ensuite. Be early if you want a parking space, as spaces in private parking around the back are very limited, and there is no prospect of parking in the street out front. Buffet breakfast included in tariff really makes this place. 2 hour buffet includes hot cooked food (pancakes, eggs, sausages, hash browns) as well as a variety of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, spreads, coffee, tea etc You can begin your day with a good, leisurely feed and meet some interesting fellow guests. Location is good, with interesting local architecture, local cafes, parks, proximity to tram routes and city.

After being sent here as our other hotel double booked us, we initially offered a family room where you had to walk down the public corridor to use the toilet and shower.. We requested an ensuite room and thankfully they gave us one. Unfortunately the rooms are outdated and dirty. I found what looked like snot wiped on the walls, black hair in the shower, dirty towels and the beds hadn't seen a vacuum under them in God knows how long. Breakfast was good..it was hot fresh and had variety. I guess you get what you pay for

Nice rooms, bit dated, needs renovations, good breakfast, reasonable price close to the city.

It was dirty and wouldn't pass a health and safety examination. It wouldn't pass a building permit. It's literally falling apart . Once it was a beautiful building 50 years or more ago. But today it badly needs a major refit

'It's okay' is exactly the right words here. Our room was clean, if really tiny (and lacking in useful surfaces to put things on, like a drink or coffee). The bathroom was very clean. The service was for the most part well-intentioned and good-hearted if clumsy. Towels were replaced daily, but not teacups/saucers if they needed a proper wash. Tea supplies were not replenished during our stay. Breakfast was passable on one day and full of regret the next and we went out instead. I'd stay again if there was nothing else or the price was right, but I would only recommend with caveats.

It is not the fanciest hotel ever. But is a cheap hotel and there is certainly nothing wrong with it. The rooms are very old school but everything works fine and it's worth your money. being near the mcg is what makes it great
