Very friendly, flexible and well priced, only downside is that the location is somewhat in the middle of nowhere

You feel at home right away at Castaways. We stayed with a group of 12 students. The staff went above and beyond to help us, even when they weren't working. The owner is living his dream running the hostel and it shows. The pool area, AV deck, outdoor kitchen all show how much he is investing back in creating a space for people to share. Thank you for accommodating us! You are lucky to stay here!

I've made lifelong friends here. It felts like home!
I was in this unique hostel for 1 month and worked here for my accommodation.
We did so many amazing things together and every Sunday we had a delicious BBQ.
Now I have to leave but I definitely wanna come back as soon as possible.response / report this review -

Rooms are nice. Small clean place with NO bunk beds. Super friendly staff. Can book tours here. Fastest wifi i had in Australia.

If you search for a lovely, small and quiet hostel you schould check out Castaways Backpacker. They have no bunkbeds, every room has his own fridge and they have an outdoor kitchen as well. The wifi is super fast and stable, you can play Wii, biliard, watch movies in a verry comfi tv room or zap through netflix. You can relax at the poolarea with a good book from the bookexchange and meet everytime new people. And dont forgett to sign up for the sunday bbq 😉

We stayed 4 nights in a private double room. Staff is extremely friendly, they offer free billiard and the unlimited WIFI is really fast! Small kitchen, but we enjoyed cooking there, really modern. The room itself was not the prettiest, but it was clean. We had our own fridge, but unfortunately it smelled extremely bad (maybe someone left bad food in it before?). All in all, we can recommend this hostel for a few days in Cairns.

Loved staying here. Staff was super friendly and loved the atmosphere. Lots of benefits of staying here including awesome deals on nights out and reef tours. 100% would stay Again!!

Pro: the room was clean, there was a fridge in the room, bathroom was nice.
Con: the room resembled a prison cell, little to no light, non working fan, you have to pay for aircon with $1 coins, the common areas are filthy, especially the kitchen, it is far from town (20min walk), staff were not friendly or welcoming, staff complained when I asked for change to get the aircon working.
Recommendation: do not stay here, unless you are desperateresponse / report this review -

Staff is super nice and friendly. The hostel it's self is a little far away from town. Its a little hot in the rooms. Really friendly atmosphere and the pool is nice. Great place to go if you are staying for multiple nights.
