Great old pub in the heart of Haymarket. Good to pop in for a bevvy pre or post show at the Capitol Theatre
Extremely dirty rooms. No toiletries provided. Cockroaches. For $250+ per night?! This place is a racket!
The rooms are realy warn down. Need too.
Nice location but the rest is not worth the money
We were very dissapointed with our room, it was very small and also the bathroom was tiny. The bath is very small and the shower feels like a trickle. The inside of the bathroom door looked to be like someone rubbed there fingers along the door with poo! And also was very dirty and under the toilet seat had pee all over it. We upgraded to a balcony room which i was very disspointed as 1. It is only roughly 1.5 ft wide. 2. No table and chairs 3. It was very old and you could see straight through to the neighbours balcony. The lift was dirty, old and gets the shakes up. The wall beside the bed had which looked like grease and marks everywhere. I also contacted the office to let them know of my issues and nothing was resolved. Overall I would rate the hotel 1-2 stars.
Great atmosphere and vibe. Good place to have a few drinks with friends
No Drop-off zone for removing Luggages. Good luck finding on-street parking in Busy CBD during peak hour. There are better options in same region, competitively priced with better services.
I stayed in a Queen room and it was very clean and comfortable. Its easily accessible to Museum station or Central station. I highly recommend this place.
Receptionist was lovely and helpful. After declining two rooms offered finally accepted third one. We saw that the hotel is being renovated and there is no way the room we got had been renovated. Bathroom certainly needs updating and a good clean. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast selection looked good but was hardly warm, certainly not hot. Great location next to Capitol Theatre but won't be staying there again. The photos of rooms are NOT what you get.
I have had more warmth, personality, customer service going to a doctor’s surgery reception that I received at all the time from the front reception while I stayed here. First of all, the entry is dull.I am unsure if the color scheme was, off white, cream or Beige (ugh).
The only splash of color was a painting hanging on the right hand side wall, which is hard to appreciate as you would have to stand right up against the left wall just to get some visual of the whole piece of art.
Have I landed in a construction site? With plastic runners on the floor from the Lift to different rooms on the 3rd floor where my room was and on the 2nd floor for the breakfast.
The shower head is too low for to get underneath so if you are anything above 1.5 meters tall prepare to bend down to get the shampoo out of your hair.
The single light in the bathroom is placed on the wall to the right of the vanity basin. Which does not illuminate the whole bathroom effectively, therefore when I am shaving on my left side of my face; I miss spots and The vanity basin has no plug.
As the bathroom does not have an extractor fan, the whole room fills up with steam. This does not help shaving, brushing my hair and if there was a lady in the room, applying makeup, etc.
The vanity had mold on the shelf just below the basin and the top itself was not big enough. Just with a small amount of men’s bathroom products I was able to cover most of the vanity top, if there was a lady in the room with a collection of makeup and other items, forget about it.
Because the windows are fixed and of course the door is closed all the time. I must use the air conditioning system to add and circulate some air in the room, no environmental tick here.!
So I would have the air conditioning system turned on all night just to get some air in the room apart from the “burn that fossil fuel”and as the system is not the most modern unit there could be. There was a gentle rumbling like trying to sleeping next to the airport without the planes taking off.
Then there was the amusement centre next door just outside my small window, this would be great if you would like the illumination of the room, until 2am or similar.
The test & tag date on the RCD swith and power point in the bathroom was out of date over 4 years ago
The TV. I was in Sydney on business so therefore the TV was not a priority, The was one time I turned on the TV to watch the news as I had a meal in the room before completing some night study ready for the next day, well, out of all of the free to air TV channels, I could get channel 2, 11 and 10 were available.
The bed side table had two burn marks on them and with no power point next to the bed, I was forced to recharge my phone on the other side of the room,
The Maintenance Work. Throughout the whole building the painting work was poor, most of the walls were painted an beige (ugh) and the ceiling was painted white. On most of the walls touched the ceiling thus there was numerous beige (ugh) paint marks on the ceilings.
The door latch on my room was fitted the wrong way.
The towel rail in the bathroom was coming out from the wall it was fitted to, was placed just above the toilet paper, so if you have a wet towel just after your shower, chances are that you will have a wet toilet roll.
The Breakfast. During the initial phone booking, I was not informed that breakfast was available, or a cost, etc. When I arrived the check in attendant informed me that there is breakfast available, but, did not mention that if I pre book, instead of the $19 per person, the cost will be $14.
The Shining Light was the breakfast chef who was a delightful start to my day. A welcoming smile and attention to the customer was one of the high lights for the whole trip to Sydney. Then there a genuine smile and goodbye from breakfast chef, but, when I walked either in or out of the hotel passed the reception, very little connection, very little warmth, very little customer acknowledgement.
Avoid this hotel at all costs, the worst experience in my life. Run down very very small rooms, dated and damaged furniture, seen better public bathrooms facilities in a 3rd world countries. Terrible staff, a total shambles. We are from Perth and this ruined our holiday.
Very good location, close to everything. The room is a bit dated but that's understandable as it's a heritage building.
Hotel was very basic but not in a bad way. It's hard to give more than 3 stars when you're not given water glasses and questioned about a breakfast charge that wasn't ours. Not a bad experience, for the money I'd stay there again. Just don't expect much.
If I could give a rating of zero stars, I would. Do not stay here. My husband and I booked here thinking it would be a good option as we were seeing a show at the theatre. We checked in and immediately went out to grab some food prior to our show. The air conditioner in our room was not working when we came back to change. When asking the front desk attendant, on our return from the show, what could be done about the air con situation, he was extremely unhelpful saying that the air conditioning unit had been replaced recently and that they were having trouble in all the rooms. The service was poor, the bathroom had mold in the tiles and we could hear people in their rooms from inside ours. This place needs to send their staff to do some customer service training. We went back up to our room and the window did not open, we were so hot that we were sweating after 2 minutes of being in there. We called other hotels to see if we were able to get a room elsewhere but no such luck. We decided to leave at midnight and requested a refund as we had only used the room for 40 minutes to get ready for the show, only to rudely be told that he wouldn't give us one and that we would have to return in the morning and sort it out, he took forever writing some long notes on the computer detailing that we were upset. At no point was there an offer for another room, a discount or even a fan. At no point was there an apology made. I have never encountered such a rude, inconsiderate and unhelpful hotel staff member. Do not stay here. We decided that after this horrible experience and no options for other accomodation, the best choice for us was to drive back home to Canberra, finally arriving at 4am. The hotel called us the next day to offer us a $100 dollar discount on the $250 we spent to book the room, and would not refund us more. This doesn't even make it 50% of what we paid to essentially change our clothes for the evening. Our friends had also booked a much cheaper room and decided to leave under the same circumstances and awful treatment, and were offered the same $100 discount. We were told if we didn't like it we had to contact someone else. Worst place ever.
