I have never stayed here but I have seen it develop. There are lush gardens surrounding the hotel, and lots of birds chirping :). The restaurant is pretty funky and cool, and food looks great!
Been here only for a morning yoga class that was really nice. Loved the fact that the yoga shed was on the top of the hill and thus we had a great view of the surroundings. The resort looked really nice when we walked through - although I haven't seen any of the rooms and neither the food options.
The worse! Rooms are little, the pictures are nothing like the rooms. Waste of money ! Customer service is the worse , had an attitude since we walked in. I’ll never come back
Fell in love with this resort and had the most amazing time. Staff were lovely and very friendly. Views were simply stunning and the beach (shuttle bus available) is only a short walk and well worth walking to at least once
I cannot fault sugar ridge. The hotel is beautiful, clean & very elegant. The staff could not be more friendly, they are so lovely and helpful. I have had the greatest week here & I will most definitely be back.
Very nice and peaceful place, rooms are big clean and nice, the gym is very good provisioned and functional, restaurant breakfast is kind of expensive
Enjoyed my stay here but can't really support the "luxury hotel" categorization.
Good: Rooms are decent size, gym is well equipped. Sunsets at Carmichael's are wonderful. Staff are polite and attentive.
Bad: The two pools are rather small and the food at the restaurant is mediocre. I would have regretted an all inclusive here.
Sugar Ridge is a fabulous hotel set on the hillside behind Jolly Beach. The facilities are first class with constant care and attention to detail. The grounds are well maintained but since the rooms are set across the hill face be prepared for some walking although they do provide shuttles throughout the property. The staff is very friendly and attentive and go out of their way to make you welcome. A testament to the quality of the management team is seeing all of them attend the weekly welcome reception. We used the conference facilities and found the meeting space to be spacious and comfortable. The property also has constant WiFi available throughout the grounds. The exercise facility has lots of new equipment, and the pool and quality food service mean there are few reasons to leave the property although there are shuttles to nearby beaches.
This is a nice property, but if you're coming down for an Aveda award, you need to lower your expectations. Sugar Ridge is several notches below what you would expect. And the free nights, breakfast and 2 massages won't make up the difference. Island time and false promises are the standard here. If you like things to be done when asked, don't come here. If you are low key and know what to expect from the locals (lots of smiles and friendliness with spotty service) this property will be nice.
Great place for relaxing and enjoying the island life the staff is is excellent, from the reception to the restaurants, spa, room cleaning etc is hard to pick up one name but we were really pleased with Jo-Jo ? Amretha and basically every one the place is a little hard to navigate if you have some mobility issues due to the lay up of the place and some people complain that is not really an all inclusive resort Carmichael's is a little overpriced but top notch service and food. we were really pleased with our experience and we recommended this place..
Lovely hotel and staff, very friendly..rooms are nice although didn't use plunge pool.restaurant is good but same sort of menu on next week..
Carmichaels is superb with 2 pages of choices..
Also when you book ask for a lover room, up top would have great views but you will rely on shuttle to collect you from room.
Lovely resort !
This is a low tier "all inclusive resort". There are only 2 small-ish pools and 2 restaurants. If you are here for a week, expect to either want to eat out or get bored of the food. There are also limited buses to and from the beach. The staff is also not very knowledgeable. Had to ask 3 people what time breakfast was (not a hard question), but none knew.
My partner and I were not on the all inclusive plan as we were only here for a night and no one had any idea how to treat us. They tried to charge things to our room, but couldn't figure it out since we weren't all inclusive. Also, the internet kept dying in our room and had to craw under the bed to restart the router.
That's the bad of it. the good is its has amazing view and is very clean. I'd recommend coming here if you don't want the all inclusive resort and/or are only staying a few nights.
We had a lovely stay at Sugar Ridge for the week and met some great people. The layout was not exactly what I pictured, definitely more of a mountain side/ rainforest feel to it but got lots of good exercise while staying there (they do offer shuttle services to/from rooms if you don't feel like walking). Tip: pack some bug spray and you'll be fine! We did the breakfast package as well, which was definitely worth doing! I'm glad we didn't do the full all inclusive option since they only have one main dining option (Sugar Club) and there are so many other great restaurants on the island. It is easy to explore the island by renting a car, which they have on site (Sunny rentals) and it actually saves money in the long run with taxi costs, etc although we did have really nice taxi drivers (Five and Captain Spencer). The sugar ridge staff was friendly at the resort and were quite accommodating.
My partner and I booked this beautiful hotel after seeing the amazing views it provided. We loved how beautiful and clean everything was. The food was spectacular both at Sugar Club and Carmichael's. Very romantic and perfect for us.
What lacked was the staff service. From the start, we would ask for minor things (info on nearby places, water bottles at 12am) and we would instantly get little to no help from reception or staff. I booked a spa day for us and the manager was extremely rude. Did not even ask us how our treatment was but was quick to ask another lady (i am hoping it wasn't because she was Caucasian and we aren't).
My boyfriend is well off, we comport ourselves with manners anywhere we go but this lack of customer service was very disappointing.
The waiters and waitresses were not too friendly. Even the hostess would give us issues when we asked to get a table for dinner, clearly seeing that there were about 10 tables empty. She would give us an excuse saying they were all reserved but when she asked her supervisor, voila! We got a table.
We finally suggested to one the restaurant's managers and she agreed with us: she said she's seen the lack of correct service in the hotel.
This is considered a luxury hotel and customer service should be top notch. I travel a lot and in many Caribbean islands what sticks with your memory is how wonderful you are treated.
Overall, I would not stay here again but Antigua itself is a beautiful island with lots of culture.
Weird experience of resort life. It feels empty. The staff are lovely people, but they seem like they've been trained to service rich people -- it was all very fake interactions -- and I have to side with the staff on this one. Why is it that every hotel seems to be owned by some conglomerate from a wealthy nation other than Antigua? The local people of this island have been screwed by wealth coming onto the island -- and spending all the money in these resorts -- and using the locals for cheap labor. Do your research -- try to spend your money on places that a local person owns -- get out of the resort so that your money goes to someone who deserves it as you sit on the most amazing beaches in the world.
I loved my time here. It was very clean and classy. The rooms were spacious and the balconies were huge! My room overlooked the ocean and was amazing The staff was friendly and willing to assist with everything. The Aveda salon was a huge bonus and the staff there were awesome. I've already my reservations to go back.
Good location, good facilities, friendly staff
Stunning hillside Resort, excellent service, gorgeous rooms, incredible hilltop restaurant. I'm on business but this is an incredibly romantic getaway. Great value.
The staff are helpful and kind. Willing to go above and beyond to accommodate their guest.
Great getaway with friendlg staff and a legit Antiguan breakfast. I will definitely be back!
