Voortrekker Monument is an heritage site in the memories of those who travelled far and wide to reach in Pretoria from Port Elizabeth. They had to face many hurdles and many wars were fought during the journey. Its mentioned that more than two thousand families migrated using the bullock carts. The blood river war is a historic timeline in the history of South Africa and defines the same. The facilities are clean and offers an excellent opportunity to see the history. Ticket is priced at R80 and its wheelchair accessible too and lift is there to reach the top floor too. The view from top floor is amazing. Thanks

Very neat and well kept. Staff are friendly and helpful. So much history to see and learn. Just be prepared for the steps going up and down. I wouldn't suggest bringing little kids here. Maybe from 8+. The shop/restaurant there is quite expensive though. Wish we packed a picnic instead

Monument marking the inland migration of the Boer people from The Cape in 1836. Dramatic structure opened 100 years later. Inside is a thoroughly engaging museum offering insight into the time and the lives of the people.

This place is a fascinating exploration of Afrikaner Nationalism. It is actually worth spending a whole day at this site - there is definitely enough to see in terms of museums, galleries, nature and gorgeous views of Pretoria. Just note the monument itself doesn't seem to contain a toilet, so use the toilets at the stairs that lead up to the structure. Also take note that the spiral stairs that lead up to the monument is quite strenuous - so take a bottle of water along for the climb. The view from the top is worth the effort.

The Voortrekker Monument is a heritage sight, its a good place to go if you want to break away from your everyday life for a few hours and doing something different. Like looking back in your school days learning what life truly was like back then. Things to see and learn about. While you plan your day to the Monument, if you are into horse rides whether it be your first time or even if you are a pro at it or just want to plan something fun for the kids..dont forget to make your booking at the Horse Trails.

The one place that you have to visit if you are in Pretoria. It commemorates the most important moment in Afrikaner history. It is architecturally beautiful, offers great views of the city, and also has interesting historical artifacts as well.

Located on a hill in the 240ha nature reserve. Known as Voortrekker Monument Heritage Site, South of Pretoria, this monument commemorate the bravery and persistence of the Voortrekker/Afrikaner pioneers, who embarked north on the Great Trek between 1835 and 1854, from the British-controlled Cape Colony.

History down memory lane and back then, we walked around the museum, the garden and also viewed the open air amphitheatre. Interesting.

The Afrikaners people built themselves a structure showing their superiority and achievement in South Africa. It is huge and solid and an absolute wonder. The building is a symbol of the beginnings of white Afrikaner nationalism and the start of human inequality. It is a one sided view of history that completely ignores the wrong doings of the settlers with regards to native people. A must see attraction.

I was there for a very brief moment but, it is surely the best place to be. The architecture, the views of the city is absolutely breathtaking. I am planning on going back soon. I would definitely recommend as a must see.

One of Pretoria's most iconic structures and a testament to the will of the Afrikaans people. Everybody should visit this monument - take a few hours visit all of facilities on the grounds. Don't be fooled - this monument has nothing to do with apartheid and is not a symbol of white supremacy - I encourage everybody to visit this monument!

Historical monument, that are in my opinion well kept and looked after. Interesting history preserved in the museum about Afrikaner culture and the way they lived way back in time. Awesome views from the top of the monument. There is also a lift to a part of the top section of the monument. Also a lift to the lower section of the monument. The shop and museum selling Afrikaans literature is a must to visit. And the restaurant sells the most delish curry and rice and great pies, and good coffee. Well worth a visit at a reasonable entry fee.
