Blanket was dirty, kettle dirty, carpets dirty, room didn’t smell well (stuffy), towels really didn’t smell good and the roof was leaking when it rained. They don’t care if the guest is uncomfortable with dogs roaming around; they just say they won’t bite (they should tell you before you book that there are dogs roaming around all the time). Not a pleasant stay. The place has a lot of potential they must just improve hygiene (a lot), maintain the structure and be more considerate to guests.

Love how homely this place is! Always felt at home here - with dogs running around, sunshine, birds and bees. Was a picturesque weekend at a reasonable price (on a non self catered unit) The kitchen was the only questionable part of the place but we didn’t use it

BOTCHED BOOKING - NO APOLOGY - NO REFUND
We booked a self catering unit more than a month in advance for the Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived and were told our booking was for the Sunday and that there were other guests in the unit we had booked. When we requested our money back Sue told us to go to lawyers!
When contacted by the newspaper, Sue told them that we had not booked a self catering unit, even though I had numerous emails showing the discussion of which unit we would be staying in (unit 3) and whether or not they provided dish-washing liquid.
After more 2 weeks I finally received a partial refund (R500 of the R900 that I had paid them) with the promise that the balance would be paid at the end of June. We are halfway through July and Sue is completely ignoring all communication from myself and has not paid another cent.
I have never in all my life and travels received this sort of treatment from any establishment and I can't believe they think they can just get away with keeping my money and that it’s alright to treat people like this. Stay far away from this place!!response / report this review -

We stayed for a weekend, and the accommodations were lovely. So homely and relaxing. Our host, Sue, is a fantastic lady, super friendly and goes out of her way to be helpful and make you feel welcome, as well as Snowy and Patch, the 2 amazing resident doggies that also make you feel very welcome. Surroundings are peaceful, with the town just a few km away for convenience, as well as the wonderful Heritage Market on Saturday mornings. We will certainly be back!!

On the 31st of March I made an inquiry for the Treehouse River Lodge in Shongweni for the 6th of May.
They accepted my booking and I paid the deposit required of R550.00, I received a confirmation of the deposit paid and the dates etc on the 5th of April (more than a month in advance)
When my partner and I arrived there this weekend, we were told our booking was for the 7th of May and that there were other guests in our room.
We were shocked and I was bordering on tears but did not want to be rude to the woman, Alison, who clearly had no idea what was going on and couldn’t get hold of her daughter, Sue, who I had been dealing with all along.
Unhappily, to keep the peace and so that this woman did not have a heart attack, we agreed to move our booking to the next Saturday.
Within the hour of us leaving, I sent an email through saying that we would not be visiting and requesting my money back.
I did not hear from the establishment so started emailing them and eventually received a call from Sue saying that my booking was definitely for the 7th and that she would not be refunding my money.
I then received a call from Alison today saying that because I CANCELLED THE BOOKING (now referring to the Saturday AFTER the original booking) she would not be refunding my money because I CANCELLED the booking less than a week in advance.
My partner even tried to call this Sue woman who told him to take it up with his lawyer and hung up on him twice!! She has since smsed me to say I must let the lawyers deal with this and she won't give me ANY of my money back.

A very unpleasant experience. Rooms are very cramped and the bed can't even move. The kettle was extremely dirty inside and out. Way over priced for what you get. Will not recommend this accommodation.
