I was dreading going to Sandton, having read previous reviews, but it was not bad at all. I arrived at about 10h10 for an 11.30 appointmentwhich seems meaningless. Parking was a problemI eventually parked on a pavement, but once inside, it was quick and easy, and even the payment wasn't badbut I agree with some reviews. Parking not sufficient, not sign-posted, some confusion about what you do or don't need. I got a booking in 2 days through our local 3@1, R110, and well worth itI didn't need photos, but there seems to be confusion about that. Just make sure you have your driver's license, and a copy of your id, as well as the originalDon't bother downloading the formyou have to fill in a green one there. All in all, not bad at all. Keep it up Sandton
This was actually not such a bad experience at all. It was pretty quick and easy, I literally went in straight away and was seen to within 5 minutes so didn't even have to wait for my booking time slot. The only thing that took a bit longer was the queue to pay, but still all in all 30 min in and out
The staff is very unhelpful. Very rude. The queues for renewing drivers license cards is the slowest. Been here since early morning and still not attended to. The tax payers money is wasted on the staff here. They make you feel like they doing you a favour. Very angry. No social distancing control.
Well done all at Sandton, I arrived early appointment at 8.10am and went in at 7.55am and was done in under 30 minutes back in my car and on my way by 8.30am . Thank you all staff and Management including security, so much help on hand and q moved swiftly and efficiently. Orderly and good systems and friendly staff. Thank you Sandton this was a pleasure 👍
Waited in line to make payment and get a temp license only to be informed that the system was offline and we would have to return tomorrow. If the system is still offline we were advised that we would not be assisted thereafter and a new booking would be required. This is madness considering the time wasted today and leave taken for absolutely nothing. Gov really needs to re-look at the license process and how to make it a more efficient process considering the number of drivers in Gauteng
Went to renew my drivers license today as per appointment. The process was easy and I was done within an hour of getting in line. The team was friendly, efficient which made everything smooth. Well done Sandton department you can be very proud!
I had a great experience renewing my drivers license today. The staff was helpful and polite and I was assisted quickly and efficiently.
It is however very important to have all your required documentation with you when you go as there were other people who did not have all their documentation and they were thus unsuccessful in their renewal.
Parking is limited so you need to go early if you don't want to park outside in the street and the earlier you go the shorter the queues are as well
Waiting in the queue from 8am for an 8:55 appointment and it's almost 12pm - I'm still outside waiting.
I took my driving test there. The staff were friendly but they are completely corrupt. So if you are not bribing, expect them to fail you somehow. They wrote on my test that i didn't use my handbrake at all during the yard test which was a complete lie.
Dont bother making an appointment. They dont use it, first come first served.
I arrived at 7h15 to renew my DL, got parking, had all the correct documents ready. They opened at about 7h45. We got called in batches of 10, received paperwork did a Covid temp scan and we we continued to the eye test booth. Staff where a friendly, diverse group of people. I left at 8h50 all done. Payment and getting a temp licence took the longest of the whole process. Now to hope the process is smooth in 6 weeks time.
I checked the Sandton Dept's times again last night AND used the 33214 text facility to ensure my license is ready for collection. The Sandton Licensing Dept do not answer their phones so I left this morning to collect my license. A 150 km round trip was met with an abrupt 'They're closed. Come Thursday' message from the guard at the gate. I just checked again. Their website shows OPEN. Absolutely terrible place. If this was a privatised business it would have worked like clockwork. Or they would go bankrupt within 6 months. Public service delivery? Non existent!! Absolutely terrible place to go to. Please avoid if possible.
I have noticed excelled service to everyone who was in need of service from the staff. From queue management through the whole process of public drivers licence renewal. Every staff member i have met wanted to make sure if i am sorted. Keep it up
The online bookings for driver's licence renewals work really well, we showed up early and was finished within 45 minutes.
Very Quick, not as slow as people tell you. Good service. Clean and safe.
I did my driver's license through this centre and the service I received was the best. The booking process for both learner's and driver's license tests is simple and straightforward.
They also sent me a notification message informing me that my driver's license card was ready for collection.
I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient the new online booking system works. Once at the DLTC the service was good, except for the finger scanner that was giving some trouble. Note that you do need to make an online booking, otherwise you will not be helped. Also note that it says you only need photos if you are applying for a temporary license but they do require one photo which they attach to your form; I was only informed of this once I arrived and would have liked to been spared the effort of having photos taken on the day.
Why are there not (more), any road signs indicating it’s position? Staff should undergo Public Relations training, no smiles!
Everything's Under One Roof -
We are indeed fortunate to have the Marlboro Licensing Department cloistered together in unity amid parklike surrounds with sufficient parking on the outskirts of Johannesburg touching Sandton , and close to the city centre.
With hope towards the cultivation of the grounds to create an attractive enclave for all those that pass through the entrance gates in the near future , will find a well tended garden that will be sure to please in the not so distant future.
One forward step to create and maintain these gardens, which is by all means quite necessary that will make a world of difference to the approach and centre of our Marlborough Licensing Department.
Got there at 6.30. Was out by 8am. Just have proof of Address, Copy of ID and photo's also carry your pen and cash. Things will go smooth. 👍
Impressed! Was there before they opened and was inside for about an hour. This was to change address and vehicle licence number. If I did some homework and filled in the correct forms beforehand, I would have been out in 35 minutes.
Terrible experience. The first time we just wanted to collect the forms to fill out at home, to return another day. They refused to give us the forms without having proof of address (no idea what they think we will do with them!). We returned another day with proof of address. They did not accept this form of "proof of address" and wanted something else. All-in-all a complete waste of time, and we have not even renewed our licence yet.
They could save everyone so much time and effort with an online application form and clear instructions of what documents are needed.
Pleasantly surprised. Arrived at six-thirty to be ninth in the queue. An official started handing out the blue form at seven o’clock sending three people ahead of me away for not having the right documentation.
Ushered in at about eight-forty-five and out by nine-forty-five. Both the Ladies (testing inspector and cashier) were extremely pleasant and helpful.
No wonder it's one of the most loathed South African institutions. Total apathy from staff who just don't give a damn. I have seen grass growing faster than the service here.
Not very organised or well sign posted inside so difficult to know which counter you’re supposed to go to for vehicle license renewals, ownership transfers or registrations. Once you do get to the right counter you required to submit your documents (renewal form, proof of identity and proof of address) at which time you’re given a number and the long wait begins I saw several people who had waited for 2-3 hours being told that they needed to go to a different licensing department in PTA. Lacks the efficiency I’ve seen in other provinces if it’s just a vehicle license renewal that you need you’re better placed to go to a post office. If the post office isn’t an option wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to be patient and calm impatience or temper tantrums won’t do anyone any good.
After all the bad reviews I prepared myself for the worst. I arrived 07:10 to get in line before open. They opened right on time at 07:30. They made sure everyone had the correct documents before entering. The eye tests went super fast as five people really worked quickly to process everyone. There was no line at the cashier. I paid and left. Was pleasantly surprised of the service after all the bad reviews. Just make sure you have all teh right docs: original ID, a copy of ID, proof of address and ID photos and you will be set.
After coming here for the seventh time in the space of two weeks I've come to the conclusion that the system is broken. The full list of requirements is nowhere to be found. Especially when booking for a learners license.
Photocopies required of my parents ID for an affidavit. Both actual ID and ID photocopies also required. If you want to successfully book anything id recommend bringing your own printer and laptop with every imaginable form. I would also recommend That if you get turned back the first time that you enquire about what other forms or requirements you need to meet.
Truly shocking and disheartening experience.
I got there just before 7, was asked if I had all the required documentation before I was let in (proof of residence, photocopies of ID, and I took my own optometrists Eye Test certificate (which my optometrist gave me for free). It may have helped that I went on a Friday before the long weekend, so the staff were cheerful, and there were few other people there at first. Needless to say, I was out before 8, and I was rather chuffed with myself for finally steeling up the courage to brave this particular government department. By the time I left, there were quite a lot more people, so my advice would be to try get there early, have all your documentation ready, and you too may get lucky. Another strategy advocated by a friend is to arrive there at 2pm, by which stage there are not many people left, however I decided to rather just get it done in the morning and it worked out. Also, if you arrive with the right attitude, you can save yourself some stress. Be friendly and hopefully it will be reciprocated.
So after reading all the negative reviews about this place , i still had no choice but to go here as i work near . Let me just say it was either a good day and a Monday on top of that , as the staff were helpful , there was 40-50 people in the que , but it moved steadily as they had 4 people doing the drivers licence renewel and eye test . So i was very surprised on my experience and i can certainly say they must of improved drastically from all the negative reviews. i was there maybe 1-2 hours cant rememeber
You are always guaranteed to wait for 3 hours. Please avoid this place if you can. The staff here are lazy and arrogant
Do yourself a favour and don't bother! Went 2 days in a row. Staff are rude and disgusting, too busy eating their lunch, chatting or napping to answer questions that they are paid to answer. On the other hand, Centurion dept is fantastic! In and out in 45 minutes, friendly and helpful staff that actually do their jobs. Just be sure to take an eye test from optometrist (their machines have been stolen) and get there early.
BRING YOUR PROOF Of RESIDENCE. It doesn't say so on the forms or on the website for Vehicle licensing and change of ownership but you have to have it anyway. When I asked why it wasn't listed on the website as a required document, I was told that no one has updated the site but there a notice stuck on the glass of her cubicle that says so! Wait what??
I would give this 0 stars of possible. The staff are lazy, incompetent, (and one) openly racist and they regularly leave their station to chat and eat. There is no signage as to which queues to join and the staff care so little, they send you to the wrong queue (3 times) because they haven't really listened to you. You get allocated a ticket number but the system isn't working. There's a sign saying "cheques and debit cards are now accepted" (how long did that take?), you get to the front of the queue (3 hours after having arrived) and are asked for cash because the machines aren't working.
If you're going here. Bring a good book (maybe the Bible) and good luck.
Typical 'State Dept'. Waited THREE hours while people and 'connections' were allowed to jump the line. Shamefull organisation. Proudly New South Africa where racisim, corruption and INCOMPETENCE rules.
Im not racist at all but the only person thats willing to help is a oldish white lady. Very polite she helped me with everything was very fast. At the window ready to pay we were about 7 people waiting about 15minutes for ANY kind of service the people there care very little about you as long as they can stand and tell jokes for as long as they want. If that lady isnt the manager then the manager should be fired! She is the only reason i rated 3 stars the rest of the staff is a disgrace
The licensing requirements change every year without any formal announcement. Every year a new document is required!! Guess thats what happens when system gets filled with untrained people who destroy the business process to ensure there back is covered
Day 1: arrive early, notice on door "closed for staff training till 8:30AM". Go back to work. Day 2: arrive early, doors open 45 minutes late, then told "we can only do renewals today, go to Randburg or Midrand". WTF people. WTF.
After reading all the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of efficiency of the Department. I actually thought the guys were quite polite and very helpful. Eventhough I was there for a particular issue I got helped with other concerns and with a smile.
