Amazzzzzzzing!!!! The staff here is superb! Especially the General Manager Andrew Govender. What a friendly man with a total comprehension of what a person want and need that is living in a hotel. The area around the hotel is not the best but as soon as you enter the hotel you forget the outside. The views from the rooms are breath taking. The gym is top notch and the swimming pool on the roof is amazing. The food and room service is 5 star quality! I enjoyed my stay there very much. Thank you Andrew and staff right down to the cleaning staff. You are a amazing team that makes you feel right at home!!!!!!!

Please beware of this Hotel. They stole my credit card details and charged me for additional days as well as other costs when I had already left the Hotel. My telephonic conversations to resolve the issue with the Hotel were not fruitful as they kept on passing my problem from one person to the next. Thankfully my bank managed to recover my money. I would not recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other hotels around the area that wont steal from its patrons.

Would definitely recommend if you are staying in Durban. Request a room looking over the beachfront and enjoy the lovely bar at night time. A real classic experience.

A lovely basic hotel for a good breakaway to Durban. Do not expect glamour and glitz but when you are looking for a nice place to stay, without the hassle of worrying that the place is not decent, this is the place for you. They offer good meal options and the sea facing rooms overlooks the golden mile at Durban. The holiday makers noise from the beachfront can sometimes be a hassle, but it should not be a problem if you are a siund sleeper

This hotel has good bedding but the bathrooms is old fashioned facilities, and please next time put more towels in the room than only one towel.

This was my second stay at Protea Edward and I was just as pleased with my room and service as I was the first time in November 2016. The staff here is very pleasant. I did have one questionable issue when I received an email from them saying they had a new policy and I needed to pay my first night via a PayPal link or wire. I called the hotel directly and they did confirm that policy so I went ahead and did it with their reservation department in spite of the fact that The Marriott US customer service line said I could just ignore the email. Both times I’ve stayed I had an ocean view right over the front of the hotel. This is a gift and a curse because it also means if you plan on having a quiet day on your balcony you can forget it with all the screaming and playing of the kids at the fun park. The food was very good both times I’ve visited as well.

Durbin Protea Edward is a very nice hotel with an exceptional staff, but we would NEVER return to this area of South Africa again. Durbin's beach is the armpit of the world. The beachfront smells like a urinal from locals relieving themselves in public. My husband & I were mugged less than a block from hotel. Local police seemed uninterested in our situation. In fact, one officer excused himself to use the men's room while interviewing us. When he returned he asked "what we expected them to do" in this situation. I replied, just do your jobs so this doesn't happen to another tourist.

Room was beautiful and excellent views - thank you. Pity that the surroundings are extremely noisy till late night. Also do not feel safe to walk alone on street - too many beggars , Looters and prostitution going on on the outside of the hotel .

This seaside hotel is a home away from home and I have had five star treatment from the staff who really deserve six stars all the time I have been here. Class, elegance and highly responsive to your needs. Plus the food here never fails to impress. I love you guys at the Edward Protea Hotel.

Perfect location, safe parking. Hotel located right opposite the beach, great views.great for runnersfood and kitchen staff are amazing!! Was a little disappointed with the house keeping but overall great stay! Definitely returning!!

Wonderful room and great location, especially if you're planning on walking down the Golden Mile, swimming at the beach or visiting uShaka World.

I do not recommend staying here if you're not taking advantage of its beach front location. It can get fairly loud at night with lots of traffic.

For breakfast/meals opt for somewhere else other than the hotel's restaurant. Breakfast by the beach? A bunnie chow in the city? Don't stay cooped up in the hotel!

The staff is absolutely amazing and so attentive especially in the restaurant and the porters. The front desk folks were so sweet and fun. However, Jean from the front desk was kind of rude, so I am deducting a star (in case there is more than 1 lady named Jean, she was the middle aged Indian lady, maybe a manager). The hotel has great views of the beach, is conveniently located and is maintained very well.
