    Day visit was very relaxing. Staff were most helpful and pleasant. Kids loved the pool, sand art and play area. Coffee shop menu was good and the coffees and treats very tasty.

    Can only give 5 stars once I stay over a night!

    I really love this place. it's cosy and relaxing. It's got that peace and quiet that you need. The food is great and the staff is welcoming and friendly. I can go back there any time I get a chance.

    Really nice for an afternoon walk followed by a nice snack and coffee on the deck. Very friendly staff.

    However going there a second time on the 21/03/18 we found that some of the waitresses were not as helpful, we went at around lunchtime just to have coffee and cake and were told that all of the tables were booked for lunch which is understandable however we could still see one or two tables open which the waitresses did not seem to want us to sit at. Instead they told us to go and look for a table on the deck that was free however none were. Disappointing as surely it is standard practice to try and find customers a table instead of them having to try and find themselves a table? We ended up leaving without having anything as the service we received was unwelcoming on behalf of the waitresses. Pity as the location is great but without friendly service the location loses its appeal.

    One of the most interesting, well maintained gardens I’ve been too. Very interesting and has a lovely river running through. I had the lamb pie the first time I came and wasn’t too impressed, but their focaccia and pasta dishes are very tasty. The staff are well trained and check up on you regularly. Their wine list isn’t too bad, nor is the coffee.

    The gardens are beautiful, and are lovely to visit. Beautiful sculptures dotted around verdant well-maintained foliage, with lawns for picnics. A small pool for children to splash in (although it is quite shallow, and two children grazed themselves during my visit on the pebble floor). Overall, the physical facilities are great. But the food quality has declined: our morning snacks at the restaurant were very expensive, had small quantities, and were not very tasty. This would put me off visiting again.

    Wonderful huge garden for both, kids and adults, and very nice breakfast terrace. Rooms seemed a bit old, but sufficient. Value for money is good!

    An extraordinary centre with accommodation and conference facilities, pool and nature walks. The most extraordinary feature are the statues placed along all the trails with explanations on the artists backgrounds and names of the art pieces. Restaurant is good too.

    Lovely place to take the kids. Beautiful gardens and a pool. Unfortunately, the service at the restaurant is terrible. But worth going if you want somewhere to entertain the kids outside.

    The worst service we've experienced in recent memory. Beautiful gardens completely ruined by a blatant disregard for customer care. To be kept waiting for over an hour even after making a reservation well in advance is utterly unacceptable in any establishment.

    Beautiful gardens. Food and coffee at the restaurant was good as well as the service. Atmosphere is peaceful. Great place to take the kids, enjoy breakfast and a stroller around the gardens.

    Love the venue but disappointed with the conference catering. Cold coffee. Things missing from our pre-ordered menuwe had to ask 4 times for our foccacio . And we would have preferred to eat at our conference venue rather than in the public dining area

    2nd visit: Exactly the same experience;
    1st visit: Nice setup! Ate at Nonna restaurant - good effort at a fancy meal but let down by overall imbalance of flavours - pie gravy too salty, steak bland and poor cut of fillet. Disappointing considering that some of the new restaurants are really making an effort now to get quality beef - locally sourced doesnt necessarily mean quality! Good service makes up for a lot. Focaccia was excellent!

    Pool and outdoor eating area could use more frequent cleaning. Other than that, it's a very cool relaxed venue

    Makaranga is a very special venue for your wedding. Your actual Ceremony can be held in the magnificent gardens in a setting like nothing else in Durban. You are surrounded by natural beauty! Best of all is that you need not travel to the midlands for your special day.

    Very large well cared for park-like gardens. Great for a long walk in beautiful surroundings. Sort of like a large private botanical garden. Nice tea garden and restaurant and a garden pool for the kids to swim in. Kids love this place!
