Some of the tents/houses have the bathroom with partially open roof. But after 1-2 days it stops bothering you. Food was nice.

Well designed. Layout of chalets are good and gives you the propper bush feel while still having the luxuries of modern lighting and aircon

Staff very efficient. Food excellent. Atmosphere very romantic. Good for families. Outdoor boma very busy. Rooms bit too close. But good for families. And to Jabu and the staff who served the biggest Birthday cake I have ever seen. A million thanks for such a delicious cake you brought us.

This was the best weekend I ever had . Beautiful safari tents room well equipped with all you need in the house. Best rates ever with good package dinner and bed and breakfast. I loved the pool by the river side. Right at Kruger national park seeing animals when you wake up. I loved the sound of hippopotamus. Excellent service and good good. This was an awesome experience to stay at this lodge.

Good budget option for fully catered safari / game drives. I much prefer to do self drives and sleep in the Kruger Park camps, as when i visited it was very busy and noisy. One doesn't have the feeling of being in the bush at all.

My name is Luis and I am Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. I teach wildlife conservation courses and a Southern Africa study abroad for our students. The course in South Africa deals mainly with conservation issues that have an effect on wildlife such as fragmentation, poverty, poaching and agricultural pressure on the landscapes and animals. This year I took my students to Nkambeni to end the trip and show the tourism aspect and how it could affect wildlife inside Kruger. We stayed at Nkambeni Camp for a total of 6 nights and I will highly recommend this venue to budget conscious tourist.

I have stayed in many places in South Africa, and Botswana and this is a budget conscious camp where all your accommodations are basic but well appointed and kept. In Africa you have several choices, from a high end experience paying over $750-$2000 per night per person, self catered facilities where you can cook or hire your staff or you can do a budget camp like Nkambeni. I feel the quality of the place, the food and the proximity to the animal viewing is excellent for the price point they offer.

Like many places is not perfect, but again if you want perfection then I recommend a high end luxury lodge. On the other hand if you don't have a huge budget and you want to have the safari experience of Africa I feel that Nkambeni will offer you that experience at a good price. Their tents are very comfortable and clean, food was buffet style with lots of variety and plentiful. Plus, the question that everyone asks, How is the animal viewing? The answer is very good.

In terms of animals most people think that they are sitting and waiting for you as if you were at a zoo and this is not the case in a wild setting. Kruger is a park the size of Switzerland and animals are moving, so if you want to see animals you have to get up early and work with the guides to look for animals. We stayed a total of six days as part of course and we do lectures, but we got to see all big five, plus Sable, the rest of the antelopes and almost got to see the pack of dogs but they were too far. I think a good stay should be at least 3 nights and every day you need to go in the morning and the afternoon game drives if you want to see the big five. Also the landscape is fantastic and plenty of birds and trees to enjoy.

One other thing I like about the camp is that I felt safe and the staff will solve any issues you might encounter. The camp has a lot of tents, and if you want an experience of solitude maybe this is not for you. Also, a train goes by every night near by and you can hear it and sometimes it wakes you up. At the same time when is quiet you can hear roaring of Lions and low frequency growl of leopards.

Nkambeni is a concept that tries to offer you somewhat the lodge experience, but you are sharing it with lots of tourist. On the other hand this is the trade off to get a good price. Nkambeni is a price decision lodge, you want solitude and elegance go for a $700 per person per night lodge, where maybe families are not allowed to share a room or kids are not allowed as many lodges want 16 years or older. Nkambeni is more of a camp style with large scale tourism model. So to get the Africa experience at a good price, you would need to be you willing to share it with others.

I hope this helps you make your decision about Nkambeni. One of the harder things is deciding where to stay and also doubting if you will see animals. In the case of Southern Kruger wildlife viewing is good, but you will see lots of tourist as well. Good Luck in Africa, is a magical place.

This is a great tented camp within the boundary of the kruger park. Their gate times are in line with the Park's and if you are not back at 17h30, you will have to pay an escort fee of R500. Unfortunately they send their rudest ranger who is unable to greet you properly before driving ahead of you. The rest of the staff however are very friendly and proffessional.

You are in Kruger Park. Glamping in a tent allows you to hear bird and night sounds.

Three of us booked 3 nights in the budget lodge, and we got way more than we paid for. We each got our own lodge with a private bathroom/shower about a 5 minute walk from the main lobby. The breakfast and dinner buffet is included in the price, but you gotta pay for lunches. Surprisingly good food for a safari! We booked our game drives with Nhongo and had the best ranger guide us, Robbie Williams. He had fantastic knowledge of the safari and was fun to be around.

I camped at this site for multiple nights. The showers were great (hot and good pressure), but the campsites are a short hike from the reception / lodge. They'll give you a single 20 minute free wifi voucher, once per visit but it's R50 for every hour beyond that (it does work well, to its credit). Those that were accommodated said it they were reasonable.
