My happy place! Will never get tired of visiting Hilltop and the reserve in general.
Great place to visit. Unfortunatly this time was only a quick pit stop.
Always a pleasure to visit this place. We love it up there.
Just stopped by for a quick coffee but what a view from the outside seating area.
While the huts are well designed, nestled between lush vegetation with beautiful views , it's a great pity that maintenance and cleanliness are not up to standard. We rented three bungalows and experienced dirty walls, leaking toilets with worn toilet seats and faucets badly in need of replacement. The beds were ok, so as the kitchen, but all windows could be cleaner and in general harder to reach surfaces should be cleaned more regularly as well.
The shop offers limited choice in groceries so that guests have little choice but to visit the restaurent.
In all fairness though, the restaurant food is quite ok, and breakfast buffet is delicious.
The first day of the two day stay at Hilltop Camp has been nothing short of magnificent. Within hours of arriving in the park, I had experienced close encounters with elephant and buffalo; after the sunset drive I had seen four of the Big Five. Only leopard remain elusive but far more than just ticking off the list, Hluhluwe provides so many opportunities to experience the biodiversity of the area. Every White Rhino in Southern Africa can trace its family tree back to Hluhluwe/mFolozi and in the 1980s there were no elephant in the reserve. Each of the original elephants here came from Kruger where they were culling excess stock. Rather than bring in complete family units, the first generation of elephant were orphaned by the culling process, arriving traumatised and without basic skills of how to be an elephant in a national park. As a result they are still-after thirty years very aggressive.
Too good a place. Must visit
Always a treat to experience the views and wildlife at Hilltop. The camp gets a good breeze which keeps the mosquitos away. They offer self service accommodation as well as a cosy restaurant.
The accommodation is pretty good and the game viewing is fantastic and it is fairly reasonable. The view is incredible!
Very serene. Plenty animals. Friendly staff. Good food
Real 3 Star. Fine for Budget accommodation. Hilltop Restaurant has to work on Menu and Breakfast. Management needs to put up sleeves, tons of potentials
The only good thing was the view. Restaurant was utterly useless and even after asking for service twice, they did not even come to the table. Rather pack a picnic basket a skip this place.
What an amazing place to stay and to see animals. Everybody was so friendly, customer service awareness I would rate as one of the best in South Africa.
We had to wait 45 minutes for our lunch and the fries were almost cold! The lady who helped us, wasnt very nice and helpfull!
In the center of the National Park. Good place to have safaris. The rooms are very old and a renovation is nesessary. Breakfast and dinner are medium and nothing special. Good place for families.
