The magnificence of the Swartberg Pass is unbelievable. The area is spotless. The road is in excellent condition. The areas that were rehabilitated after the floods are as good as new.

Breathtaking views a must to do!! Drive slow as roads are not maintained - but worth the effort!! Be one with nature! Do not rush it - it is a journey!!

We did the "Die Hell" trail, it's an amazing addition to the pass, but you need to allow enough time to enjoy it and you will need a 4x4 and a good nerve for driving very close to cliff edges!!! DO NOT attempt this trail if it has recently rained or is looking like it might rain, the trail is pretty much impassable in the wet!!!

Beautiful mountains make you feel very small. It was nice and quiet while we were driving through there. This place really puts you in a state of awe of how big and beautiful nature is. I would really recommend driving through there.

The most scenic drive on a pass I have ever seen. The rock formations and wide open spaces are breath takingly beautiful although the heights and narrow gravel road is quite frightening. The temperature change from the bottom to the top is astounding. It started at about 26° at the bottom and when we reached the top it was a mere 16°. Worth the drive. Took one and a half hours to drive approx. 40km. We travelled not more than 20km ph. One thing off our bucketlist.

This is such a special place. Again do yourself a favor and plan a day trip where you travel to the 'The Hell.' It's a fun adventure.

Visited during the Snow of 2017 and looked like Switserland. Snow was not so cold but the wind chil froze my fingers. Got a few beautiful photos and 360's. Was able to reach the top but due to the closure of the pass towards Prince Albert I had to turn back to Oudtshoorn. They are busy with repairs to the road.

Beautiful, accessible and well maintained, this exquisite mountain reserve was decked in fluffy, pure white snow. Some parts of the mountain has been burned by wild fires and the mountain pass is covered in a thick layer of clay which is very slippery when wet and extra dangerous in the snow. But it is absolutely worth the drive and I enjoyed my day walking in the snow more than anything.

We went there during the snowfall time. It is just beautiful. The only sad part is that the pass is closed on Prince Alberts side. So you can go up to the to, but will have to turn back to Oudshoorn when done.

You should definitely take the chance to go over the Swartberg pas and also take the road around. Both are worth seeing.

Hiking from Swartberg Pass (just leave car there) through mountains (many signs) on easily discernible and walkable paths about 240' (add about an hour if you like climbing the top of higher mountains on the way up to about 1900m for incredible views) to Bothashoek House (accommodation closed for travellers without appointment but water/toilet available) and back 200' on 4x4 jeep dirt road. These about 24km easily manageable on a day within 9 hours, but better start very early to enjoy better light and avoid heat/sun after noon. If you race you may reduce about 20% in time.
