It is a great place for elders for friends
Upper middle-class retirement with choice of free standing 2 and 3 bedroom units and flats. Walkways dams and nature meander through the complex. Main clubhouse with restaurant, frail-care, gym etc all of high class
Caring staff. Lovely kind people in frail care.
If you’re looking for compassion for your parents, DON’T book them in to Douglasdale!!!! Matron Jacky is still learning what the word compassion MEANS!!!!! Move on!!!!!
Beautiful views, clean, friendly guards. All around good experience. Houses are lovely
The best retireing village!!
❤️😀
Beautiful setting along the river. Great birdlife.
Friend just moved here. Compared to the other places we had seen, this was far better than the rest
Wow what a nice place to retire. Definitely #goals
Very good retirement facility. With options from small apartments to proper houses
My mother stays here and is quite happy. Only reason i did not give it 5 stars is that the food could be better.
Guards were helpfull, very nice and clean streets, very good sign-boards showing you were to find the house you might be looking for.
UNPROFESSIONAL, DISORGANISED SECURITY!!
Gate Security has attitude problems. They couldn't phone my mom on her cellphone (her landline wasn't working) and then left me waiting at the gate for ten minutes with no explanation. I got there just in time to take her to church, so she was now going to be late. My cell was giving me grief so I couldn't let them use it to call - and why should I? Eventually I walked in to go and call my mom. After a few minutes two security guards came sauntering along. They said they have procedures and so he was coming to the unit because the gate couldn't contact her. Another 5 minutes after the fact. So all in all 20 minutes had gone by where they were quite content to have just left me sitting at the gate with no attempt to communicate what was happening and absolutely no sense of urgency. When I asked what took him so long to get to the unit, he said he was busy with someone.
The guard said he would give us a lift to the gate in the golf cart. Why didn't he use that to get to the unit quicker??? So we started following them, I wanted to cut across the back of the community centre (along the river) and the guard indicated we must go out the other way so we, unnecessarily walked a good km before the one who went ahead appeared with the golf cart. My mom was visibly physically taxed. Anyway, my mom said it was now too late to go to church. I went back to the gate. Got the gatehouse guard's name (Zinhle Nhlengethwae) and asked the guard for his and he refused. I told him not to worry, I'm sure there's a duty roster. As I turned to go and get into my car and leave, he quirps "this is a village - you can't just do what you want". I asked him why he was now picking an argument with me when clearly, I was leaving. He then said "We don't take instruction from you!" I told him to leave me alone, I am leaving and still he persisted in hurling comments. I got into the car, to the sound of all the guards laughing at some comment he had just made in his native language.
The gatehouse guard should be able to contact residents on their cellphones and if he/she can't be trusted with this privilege, then they aren't much suited to security are they now, because using the cellphone facility for personal use amounts to theft!
I sincerely hope that my mom will not be victimised as a result of this post. The residents live in fear of offending as the repercussions are unpleasant. Let's hope the Village Staff are more professional in their conduct regarding this than the security company.
