My wife and I went recently for brunch (the time between Christmas and New Years). We were happy with the food. I had the patty melt and fries. My wife has the mushroom crepe. We felt it was slightly overpriced.
Service could have been better. My server was off her game. Not sure if it was a post christmas hangover or maybe a bit of the hair of the dog to treat it. But she got flustered a few time. One time she came to my table with something looking like she was going to tell me something. Stood there for 30 seconds said nothing and walked away.
I would go again. I just feel this was our bad luck to have a server off her game. Plus maybe the christmas spirit makes me want to be nice.
Hard to imagine a bigger menu done so well. It takes a while to make a choice because there are so many good ones. Excellent coffee.
Great menu and service. Not being in downtown has two advantages: easy to get a reservation on busy weekends, and easy to get free parking. Definitely the better of the two sister restaurants (the other is Cafe Zola).
I'm being extra critical here as I expected more, especially given the location and prices. First off, the place is in need of a good spring cleaning. Window sills, mirrors, bathroom corners, etc. we're a little gross. The top shelf wine bottles were visibly extremely dusty and I could see this from the far side of the restaurant.
Aside from cleanliness issues, I was hoping for more healthy options and dairy free options. Everything is cooked in butter and they use a lot of cream. If you are looking for heart healthy, this is NOT the place to go.
The service was decent overall, waitperson did not check back after food was delivered to make sure everything is ok.
Our waitperson had been with the restaurant a long time, and even knowing that I was looking for dairy free options, didn't warn me about the massive butter they use in everything. Ann Arbor is a vegetarian and vegan friendly city, but this is not a place I would suggest as veg friendly.
The food was properly prepared, and minus the butter, everything was good.
Let's be clear, this is one of those restaurants where what you order will completely make or break the experience. While the service is nothing remarkable, I've never had an unfriendly or incompetent server.
This is a great place for fresh salads and local grub. Don't come here if you're looking for comfort food or if you're a big eater and want to walk away stuffed. The general rule: the crepes are good, the salads are good, the bacon is not. This place is an especially good option for breakfast/lunch/brunch. Heads up: they can get busy for lunch during the week and brunch on the weekends - plan accordingly.
Long story short, carefully read the description of what you want order or ask a server to tell you more.
(Something odd is that there was a bad smell last time I was here. I'm not sure what that was about)
Very high quality ingredients. Good service. Food was good. Wasn't the best, but good enough to come back another time when I'm in the mood for an artichoke omelette. 😉
I may be shunned for this, but I really don't understand the hype of this place. It's small portions and overpriced. $30 for brunch per person (no alcoholic drinks) is steep. Both times I've went, my food is relatively flavorless and under seasoned. The exception is the green smoothie they have - I gotta admit, that was awesome.
Overall the experience here was awful! It started with having to wait 5 minutes to check in because there was not a hostess in sight. Once we found a hostess she was incredible rude to us and everyone around her. We understood that it was the holiday weekend and that they might be busy but having to wait 30 minutes before we even had water brought to our table, another 15 minutes to get our drinks, then an hour to get our food. One of our group members ended up having to leave because the food took so long and she had to get back to work. Once we received our food it was cold/over cooked and tasted awful. The food ended up upsetting everyone in my groups stomach!
With all the options that Ann Arbor has to offer for good food you should never have to have an experience like this! Please no one waste your money!
This was possibly one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had. Waited 30 minutes for warm water and more than an hour for my food. Was in a party of 8 and the plates were served at different times so everyone was forced into an awkward situation of waiting. Horrible service, was like everyone moved in slow motion.
Great food, great atmosphere, pricey
Zola Bistro is great! Took my wife and 2 kids (4&6) for an early, 5ish, dinner. We split the cheese board, antipasto, and asparagus salad. Everything was amazing. Staff was extremely friendly and service was quick. It's a nice place so I wouldn't take my kids there during the busy times but we were celebrating and it was perfect for us during the week!
Satisfactory overall experience, good service and great food - including house-made butter and Zingerman's baked goods. Their imported coffees and teas are enough reason to visit on their own.
The food here is phenomenal! They have a really large menu with a variety of great brunch options. I got the southwestern omelette and it was one of the best I've had as it was stuffed with chorizo. The portion sizes are good and I even had leftovers. The tables are set a little too close together if you ask me but I think that's just because of the location. Overall, it was a great meal with quick service despite the crowd and I would definitely go back!
I simply cannot recall a restaurant meal that I've enjoyed so much. In Philadelphia for a brief, last-minute trip, we booked a late dinner at Vetri (last table seated that evening). It was worth staying up for -- every dish was exquisite, especially the famed gnocchi, light as air. And the service was so cheerful, engaged and considerate. Worth every penny and every minute. We may come back to Philly just to eat here again.
