Yuma was the only place to cross the great Colorado River for over 600 miles. I you wanted to travel from the east coast to the west coast in the 1860's you needed to cross the Colorado Rive at Yuma Arizona.
The Quarter Master Depot served the entire southwester United States. All supplies came to Yuma, Then they were shipped to their destination.
