Very friendly and helpful staff! The wines were fantastic. I definitely recommend the wines. Very impressed with variety and balance. The food was not as good as the wine. The personal margherita pizza lacked basil but was solid. The pan-fried gnocchi was bad but salvageable with salt.
I almost gave this rating a five for ambience alone! The fire place is WONDERFUL on a cold evening! I definitely recommend this place.
Can't speak for the food, but the wine is great. A new favorite of mine is Bin #214. We did the tasting and tour, then got a bottle and a meat/cheese plate and sat outside to enjoy it. Beautiful atmosphere, very relaxing. The people were extremely friendly and accommodating as well.
We had a poor experience; however, the owner was concerned enough with our experience to reply to the review I wrote first and offer a personal experience. Unfortunately, the service was still poor. But, in the end, the wine was not to my taste so we decided not to return. If you are nearby, stop by otherwise give it a pass.
My mother, grandmother, and I came here to celebrate my wedding in a few weeks. The wine tasting was fine but we were famished and wanted lunch before driving 4 hours back home. We waited just short of an HOUR for sliders. We each ordered 3 sliders. We were assured the food was "on its way" again and again for about 30 minutes. When we got our sliders, they were burnt, dry, and cold. Mushrooms were burnt to a crisp. The meat was devoid of taste. The buns were merely whole buns cut in half. The "roasted potatoes" comprised a tiny pile of potato shavings, limp and pale in some kind of oil. The presentation was trashy. When we told the server the food was inedible, she merely apologized and offered to give us an email to "work with them." Didn't offer a refund or a discount. Didn't offer to contact management. No attempt to remedy the situation. We are so incredibly upset. We left hungry after an hour of waiting and disappointment. Whitebarrel, do NOT advertise as a good establishment if your food is complete garbage.
Thankfully, management finally refunded our food order. But only after we had to re-enter the establishment to insist. We are now leaving to find food elsewhere and do not plan to return. Complete waste of our time and a letdown on what should have been a happy occasion.
We live in Florida and my husband had to come here for a week for his company so I decided to pick a winery and this was the one and I am so glad I did. I met Nathan and Marie and they were wonderful. I had bruscetta.made from scratch and homemade bread.and met the chef. So friendly but the wine topped it off. I did 2 groupings and ended up joining there wine club and bought a mixed case. I highly recommend. They grow there own grapes and bottle all there wines on site. GOGOGO if your a local it will become a favorite. If your passing through a wonderful place for a break in your trip.
I've been coming here for years and they never cease being amazing. I haven't found a single menu/food item that isn't delicious, and their seasonal wines (summer especially) are always decadent. I love White Barrel! Cannot recommend enough.
I took a group up there with Hooptie Ride and we all had a wonderful time. The food was great and from what I was told(I was the DD), the wine was fantastic as well. Friendly staff and beautiful scenery.
My husband and I come here several times a week Maria is by far the best . We love her and Rick is wonderful. Its a beautiful quite relaxing place to grab a quick cheese plate and a bottle or two I love this place!
Wine is better than the food. We had nachos that were a "luke-warm" and lacking in toppings. The wines are fantastic though. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious!
We went there for my graduation dinner last night. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for the food. Received the wrong appetizer, and everything was frozen cold. The appetizer, all the entrees, the bread for the "slider" buns wasn't cooked it was doughey, and the tuna on the tuna slider was visibly raw. It looked like uncooked chicken and tasted what I picture wet cat food would taste like. All in all worst restaurant experience of my life. Our waitress also seemed to have no clue what was going on ever, and said it took so long because it was so "Wild" in there, by which she means there was us and two other tables. Maybe 12 people in the whole building. Avoid like the plague.
Tasting room and wines were great for southwest VA; sliders and grilled cheese were ok but port brownie and ice cream were awesome. And we happened to visit on an "open house" day which meant lots of sweet discounts, woo-hoo!! We'll definitely be visiting here again soon!
Great drive and location. Wine samples were really nice. Employees were excellent. Sliders didn't really work for us, the topping were better than the meat. Overall really NV nice trip.
