Worst hospital ever. I've worked with them as an EMT, I've been a patient of theirs in the ED and have friends who've worked and currently work there. All amazing and caring.. until they went corporate. I personally went there by ambulance for a complication from an earlier injury. Got ok care, not bad, not great. Month later, I get a bill for over $9,000 dollars. The hospital (corporate) bills, the doctor's bill AND the x-ray tech - all separate. The hospital billed my insurance company - with the wrong group numbers - so I get a notice. I call them, they assured once more I was good to go and would not have to worry about it. Fast forward to July of this year - I get a subpoena served to me by an attorney. I again, call and resubmit my information. They tell me to wait - two weeks later I'm on vacation and go to take out cash at the ATM. My balance? -$17,560!! This attorney put a freeze on my checking account because they hadn't received payment from my insurance! Called insurance - they say they have never received a claim from the hospital, but did from the doctor and x-rays. So, now, 2 years later, I have not a dime to my name, an attorney who is holding my money hostage since last week unless I pay them $567 a month until it's paid off. It's not about that this corporate run hospital is money hungry and does not care whether you're fighting with the insurance company or if they don't get payment fast enough it's that they don't do their end of what is normal and submit claims on a timely manner or that they lie to you that they did.. disgusting and shame on them!!
My boyfriend was transported here from St. Anthony’s in Warwick for a seizure. We walk in and there is someone else’s ore sitting on the counter. When we told them about it they said “oh yeah house keeping doesn’t clean that up.” Like it was normal? We waited for hours for them to not give us any results. It’s been over 24 hours and still not results. We keep asking yet nothing. The nurses seem aggravated anytime you ask them for anything. Took them 8 hours to get my boyfriend pain medication. I will not be coming back here. Or recommend anyone else to come here.
I’ve been here twice with my mum so she could get surgery the first time it was great, we got there and after a few minutes she was admitted the they took her to surgery she came out, we left. It was great, nurses and staff were nice and professional. Second time for the same simple procedure we get here and they never booked her surgery, the surgeon was here and he knew he was performing the surgery but the people that were supposed to put it in the system never did their job so instead of spending 4-5 hours in the hospital we spent 9 hours 2 of those waiting for her to be admitted. It was a terrible experience the second time around except because of the fact that the nurses were very nice.
My son was transported here from Hudson Valley to have an emergency appendectomy. The execution of his surgery to recovery was so smooth and the staff so incredibly professional, caring and kind. I have lived in NY for about 18 years and this is the first hospital that has made me say “wow, they’re doing great.” The staff cares and is thorough in detail from start to finish and the facility itself is absolutely beautiful and spotless. I will NEVER go to another hospital in NY (or CT). I don’t care if it requires an extra few minutes in the car because the overall experience is a true testament of humanity, which is hard to find in this area. Thank you, Westchester Medical for taking care of the most precious thing in my life.my son.
This has always been a great Hospital and still is. Now the automated parking is absolutely horrible especially for a new comer and someone with anxiety. Instructions is very misleading. Inside machine wasn't working properly. You're not told whether to pay inside or outside. Horrible, Horrible Parking Services. It needs to be fixed or reconfigured. One slot for ticket, separate slot for payment. After complaining enough. They validated my ticket
My daughter was transferred from an hour and 15 min away to this emergency room. They didn't run 1 test. We rang the bell and asked a question and we waited an hour and a half before we went to the desk to ask again. We waited a full 2 hours for an answer. The Dr that came in at 6 am said they were going to keep her for 24 hours to monitor her only to change his mind later. When I insisted they monitor her like the Dr said, then they did a ultrasound that was fine. Now she's home, still running the temp and they won't tell me anything when I call after they did squat when we were there.
This place is a shizzz show. My son was admitted for about five days and discharged last week. We never spoke with the attending doctor. And he has yet to return our phone call after our script insurance denied a medication he prescribed and needed to speak with him to resolve the situation. The place is short of staff and it is noticeable. The crazy isthey are expanding. We had one nurse who was extremely rude and her thing was making excuses why she couldn't do something. This place has long forgotten the Hippocratic oath or just the basic fact it was created to help people who are I'll. It reminded me a sucky NYC public school in the 80's and 90swhere no one cares about the patients or their loved ones. Will do whatever I can not to end up there ever again. Needs a whole new administration or shut it down cause right now it sucks.
My boyfriend was in a motorcycle accident late this past Sunday afternoon. He was airlifted to Westchester Medical.The intake department was very helpful and considerate of the situation we his family were in. Both of the nurses named Dawn were beyond amazing! If it wasn't for them and woman who helped discharge him, (I belive her name was Lisa) this unfortunate accident caused not by stupidly driving fast but simply poor roadways, could have left him and all of us in a much darker mood. Those women deserve an applause.
The reason for the low star rating is for the following;
1.Cleanliness of facility - When he was waiting in the MRI machine for them to run his MRI he counted 24 spots of blood above his head from a previous patient. He brought it to their attention and they said they had cleaned it from the person before. (It's understandable they did have a lot of traumas that day from what I overheard but blood is a hazard and cleaning should be 100% all the time.
2. Before we were discharged he needed assitance getting to the bathroom. Now the staff was super accomodating to us and let us 6 go into the room with him as he was ready to leave, a nurse name Jenn was beyond rude to all of us for no reason. And her attitude to him after we all exited the room was also not pleasant from what he said. There is a way to speak to people who are in an environment that is not familiar to them and for a serious matter. I get that a hospital has regulations but if the family or patient are not rude to you than why should you give them attitude? If you are having a bad day don't take it out on the patient and their family.
3. This morning when we went to pick up his prescription for his antibiotics the doctor on call who called in his prescription called in his trauma name and all the wrong details. So we had to call them back and have the nicest nurse there Dawn get another doctor to get his proper name added to his prescription.
Needless to say, the experience could have been a 5 star if everyone was just as friendly and considerate as the hard working nurses I mentioned above.

My mother went into Westchester Medical Center on 7/12 after having a stroke and brain bleed. The nurses in Neuro ICU were phenomenal. Eric Nietzel, Amy Aquilina and Jennifer Ferguson were with my mother a lot of the time that she was there. They treated her incredible. When I was unable to be there I knew she was safe and in good hands. Eric took time to give me literature on the type of stroke my mother had to give me a better understanding. Kind and compasssionate is an understatement about how these individuals are. I am forever grateful for these people. I don't think they know how much of a positive impact that they have on others. It takes a special kind of person to do what they do. They take time to talk to you to explain things. They are patient. They genuinely care and take pride in what they do. Michelle NP was also great. She took time to talk to me anytime I had a question and answered them honestly. I can not thank these people enough. They left such a positive impact on myself my brother and most importantly my mother.
I went in for a prostatectomy, usually no more than 2 days. I stayed 11 days and nearly died. NOT overstating, NEARLY DIED!!! On my first night no one check my Foley bag and it backed up. For several days it was only blood in the bag and no urine. That caused a 500cc hematoma. I explained to the attending urologist the pain I was in but for 2 days he dismissed it as post surgical pain. I suffered and did not sleep for 8 days. I was given Morpheine and it was ineffective, then Dilaudid which only reduced my pain for about 2 hours. I was literally bleeding out and the staff and Dr John Phillips had no idea how to stop the internal bleeding. I suffered collapsed lungs and worse. He said in his more than 700 surgeries, he never had a foley bag Two CNA's disregarded my pain and made me lay flat when my body could not do so. My JP Bag, Jackson Prep bag, was 10 Millimeters and was filling up every 12 minutes with blood. They tried to configure something to hold more blood instead of stopping the bleeding. They got a 40 Mill JP Bag from the emergency room to hold more blood but did nothing to stop or slow the blood loss. I eventually had a blood infusion of 2 bags and the surgical team had to "create" a drainage system to allow the blood to slowly drain. My stomach was severely distended, I looked about 3 months pregnant, AND I AM A MAN!!! All the RN's were great, but one CNA in particular, Jackie, intentionally caused me harm by forcing me to lay straight when I could not. Urologist, Dr Phillips, seemed like a deer hypnotized by the headlights when asked how to stop the bleeding. He was unprepared for this problem. At night, the staff talks and moves around like they are in a park instead of using their in door voices. If my life depends on me getting care from this place, or somewhere further away, I will demand the other place. If I am going to die, then it won't be in Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. They should change the entire hospital to a morgue because that is where people go to die. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!
Worst hospital ive ever been too. Very rude and unprofessional. Seems as if they all have something better to do than their jobs. As a traveling musician ive been to quite a few emergency rooms/hospitals through out the united states and this is far by the worst. Wouldnt recommend unless you were dying, hell even then your probably better off somewhere else cause if it was your last breath they could care less.
Today was the second time attending this clinic and I really liked it, everyone really kind and really professional and even the nurses or doctors in training were really good. I read some reviews saying that it's a teaching hospital I could somewhat agree with that but the doctors are still with you training the new generation of doctors or nurses. How could new doctors be doctors if they have no experience?
First offits a teaching hospital. So a lot of the follow up is done by medical residents, not necessarily the doctor that performed the procedure. My father spent almost 2 weeks total in both the surgical ICU & Neuro ICU. These areas really need to be made larger. The rooms are claustrophobic. They are currently building a new ambulatory surgery center. The visitor parking fills up rapidly. I'm not sure if there are any plans to build a multi level garage, but one would definitely be needed once the surgery center is completed. Larger signs are needed to remind visitors to take the parking ticket inside with them. There is only a small notice on the ticket machine. Payment for parking is done at a kiosk in the lobby.
