Food - below average, the tofu in my soon du bu was obliterated. It was quite spicy and once the temperature cooled down it was very salty. My husbands beef was also very over cooked.
Service - alright. It was Noel night so I’m sure they were dealing with a much bigger crowd than usual.
Decor - unremarkable but unique Korean wooden benches and a Christmas carouse on the bar counter.
A perfect venue to warm up and enjoy delicious hot sake and ginger tea. My experience here has always been very courteous and prompt: I was with a friend who asked for salt and immediately after procuring the salt, someone came and inquired if the taste was not to our likingit was the absolute most attentive service my friend and I had ever received at any establishment.
My sushi was delicious and so was the udon. I heartily enjoyed the portions and options. The aforementioned friend is an incredibly picky eater and he actually couldn't decide which dish he liked best! I will definitely be returning. Thanks for being so attentive, Wasabi.
Delicious sushi and tea, mochi ice cream. Friendly service. Cocktails. Street parking. Good for lunch or dinner. Great lunch specials. Street parking. Located in a beautiful historic building and right next to the DIA. Japanese and Korean dishes available. Walk in from Woodward Ave.
I was very satisfied with the first part of my meal, the sushi, salad, and soup we're all very good. The food was out fast and the portions are quite big. I was seated almost instantly. Service was okay, not fantastic but still pretty good.
My boyfriend and I came in for dinner and it was busy so we understood we'd be waiting a while for a table, but 10 minutes after we came in a group of four old people with no reservation got seated before us. What I assume to be the manager or chef told us to sit at the bar. After waiting there for 15 minutes with no service we left. I'm normally not like this to post a bad review but I just had to share.
Late Monday night Sushi run (9:20pm). One Salmon roll, one tuna roll, and a hot green tea to go. $4.50 per roll, 12 oz tea $2. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The rolls are slightly smaller, yet better quality better than many other sushi restaurants. Note at night you need to press the door com button at south entrance to get into the building. The guard will buzz you in. It's a fancy tower building.
Bought the Tempha and the Spicy Cucumber at the Wasabi Korean & Japanese Restaurant. I'll finish both containers by tonight they are so good. I'm a new fan, and will commit to stopping by again next week to buy some of the veggie fermented broth! Everything is delightful from here!
Taking an online order, making me drive a long way out of town to collect my food, and then having the restaurant not even open, let alone with food ready: this is apparently the Wasabi way? It happened to me and is appalling. A huge waste of time, money and effort.
An absolute joke. I STRONGLY advise any/everyone to avoid Wasabi.
I have been a long time repeat customer since 2014 and have enjoyed the quick and friendly service and good food. However of late the service here has become borderline rude. On multiple occasions over past few months when I have gone for a pickup or sit down dinner, the waiting staff has completely ignored us for no apparent reason. We have had to wait for at least 15 min before even anyone approached us, despite flagging down a staff member. I always get the feeling that I am unwelcome and an inconvenience. It is upsetting. I miss the staff who had the decency to say hi when we entered the restaurant. The waiting staff who are working tonight should not be in the service industry.
If you are looking for a pleasant experience and good food, there are multiple restaurants in Detroit that can deliver that experience. You will not find that here, given the current state of affairs.
Pros: The sushi and Korean soups can be very delicious! There is a large Japanese/Korean menu to choose from.
Con: This is does not happen consistently but sometimes the staff will offer the bill before the customer is finished their meal. I'm not sure why this happens but every time it has the restaurant was NOT at full capacity.
Great staff. Great food. They have a large variety of Japanese and Korean dishes. And a large sushi menu. The atmosphere was really nice. Have a couple Korean friends who have been there and said it was ok.
