Great service all around. Fast & efficient. Nice personal touches.
Sold my friend a car without any financing. Told her to just pay them directly which she did faithfully. Then over the course of three months tried opening a line of credit with every creditor under the sun. When that didn't work they threatened to send her to collections unless she brought a co-signer.
I read the contract front to back. It stated if financing wasn't secured within a week the contract is void. So we drove down there to turn the car back in. We immediately get ganged up on by multiple salesman who were insanely agressive. Said it was her car and too bad, etc.
I called the sales manager and told them you have to options. I drop the car off and void everything or I leave the car south of the boarder. Because as far as I see it she never received the title, so she never owned the thing. Finally he agreed to take the car back and refund the down payment. Super shady.
Very bad experience. I have a new car and the wind shield pump stopped working. The service people told me that I had an accident that caused it to break. I took it to a body shop where I was told there are no signs of an accident. The shop told me that was due to the transport of the vehicle from southern cal. to Monterey on a trailer. I was forced to pay for the repair. I then called the Honda headquarters. It has been over a month and no action has been taken in spite of many calls.
I was forced to put a request to dispute the charges and go from there. If not resolved, court will be my next stop.
I had a pretty unpleasant experience with Val Strough Honda today. In 2014, Honda settled a class action lawsuit to fix a known problem with the variable cylinder management system (VCM). I printed out the service bulletin, (had to explain it to them) informed them of the class action lawsuit. At first they refused to fix it, then refused to cover it under warranty as required by the service bulletin from Honda and LEGALLY REQUIRED TO DO by the terms of the lawsuit. Honda Customer Affairs told me I am definitely covered by the CAL and to file a claim to their claims center for reimbursement. I'm happy about finally getting my car fixed, but thanks to Val Strough Honda's Service Center, the half day I spent doing it is gone forever.
This review is strictly for the service department, not the dealership.
Horrible service!!! I will never take my car to their shop again! I purchased my Civic from this dealership back in 2009, I've taken my car to their shop twice and both times I've had dreadful experiences. The first time I took my car in to get an oil change and when they brought my car back there was a decent sized white scratch, that was not there when I brought it in. And they did nothing to fix this even though their mechanic obviously hit it on something during the test drive after doing the maintenance
The second time I took my car in was this past week to get an oil change, transmission flush and to get my passenger air back replaced, due to a recall. The service took three hours, which I was fine with waiting for and was already expecting a long wait even though I had an appointment at 9 a.m.. The wait time was not an issue but the fact that no one came in, not even once to give me an update on my car. To have been notified that there wasn't anything else they needed to recommend to be fixed, just some kind of update would have been nice. And after spending $220 and then to find out I paid for things that were not completed. But the real issue was when I got to my car after it had been worked on.
I opened my car door to find the plastic seat cover and paper floor mat still inside, which was annoying to say the least. Then I look over to my passenger seat and everything in my glove box was just thrown on the seat, wrinkled dirty papers, my wheel lock, glove box still open too. and underneath my radio their was a plastic cover that had been removed and was still out of place. I as PISSED. This is not how you return a car to a customer.
After asking to speak to the service manager, who was not available I spoke to the service advisor who had helped me when I got there and I explained my frustrations to her. She then had the mechanic who worked on my car put everything back, and after he did I could hear him from the waiting area yelling at her about how it was her job to tell me to take everything out of the glove box and its "not his job" and he just seemed like such an ass! The service advisor apologized and told me the service manger would call me when he returned. And he NEVER DID.
If I could I would give this shop 0 stars. I will never return to have any thing fixed here. The only part that was positive was the service advisor, I wish I remembered her name. She was very helpful and friendly.
If you are a first time buyer this is definitely not the place for you! this was my first stop in shopping for a 2017 Honda Civic. I made it clear that I was not going to sign any contract until I had done my due diligence in shopping for a car. I was repeatedly asked over and over if I would be willing to sign a contract that day. I repeatedly gave them the same answer, No! I was quoted $37,209.92 for a car with a $19,000 sticker price. 12.9% interest. With $5,000 down my payments were to be $447.36 a month! The salesman named Eric made me this offer with a straight face and tried to make it seem like he was doing me a favor. I took a picture of the offer sheet which I still have and told them thank you and would let them know when I finished doing my research. I received a phone call the next day and was asked about my experience. I let them know exactly how I felt. An hour Later I received a phone call with a very reasonable offer but by then I had already made up my mind about this dealership. the next dealership I went to was Sam Linders in Salinas and was treated with nothing but the utmost dignity and respect. Happy to say I am now the owner of a 2017 Honda Civic.
DO NOT USE THIS DEALERSHIP--IN ADDITION TO BEING GREEDY THEY ARE SLEAZY.
My 2014 Honday Accord Hybrid threw a hissy fit and I had it towed to the nearest dealership: Val Strough Honda. They had to call in a higher level technician and he diagnosed a stretched timing chain and the fuel injector also needed replacement. Typically these parts can last the lifetime of a car but my car isonly three years old and has less than 6,000 miles on it.
The typical cause of a stretched timing chain is to have run the car with a low oil level. However, I am a stickler for maintenance and had done all the right things: on schedule oil changes with the right oil, the right amount of oil, and the right oil filter--and I had the documentation to prove it. The car had the correct amount of oil when it was brought in. I had done nothing wrong. And as my friends would tell you, committing fraud is totally alien to my character.
NONETHELESS, VAL STROUGH TRIED TO ACCUSE ME OF FRAUD IN ORDER TO GET ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR!!! Apparently, dealerships get paid less money for warranty work. I had to call corporate Honda customer relations who in turn reviewed the case and got Val Strough to honor the warranty.
My only prior experience with Val Strough was also very negative. When I looked to purchase the car it was in high demand and there was a shortage due to a lack of hybrid batteries. Some dealships were charging a premium in addition to the list price. Val Strough is closest to my home so I went there first in spite of knowing that they wanted an additional $3,000 over list. I also knew that Ocean Honda and the Salinas Honda were not charging a premium.
Val Strough would only come down a little on the premium and I felt that all they wanted was to maximize how much they could make me pay and the hell with customer relations. I walked out.
I went to Ocean Honda to purchase the car and the experience could not have been better--night and day difference from Val Strough and totally worth the trip.
GOOGLE SHOULD HAVE A ZERO RATING BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THIS DEALERSHIP DESERVES.
Miguel is the nicest person in Val strough honda. You will get good deal if you talk with him than other guys there.Even though my budget was not that big i bought expensive car coz he bought the monthly pay to lower.
And he is very cool and has great costumer handling skill.
