Upscale camping at its best. They provide literally everything. Leave your tent at home, pack a small overnight bag and enjoy nature's bliss. Big Sur's panaromic ocean views, above high cliffs, are one of the most stunning in the world.

I always end up here because the public campgrounds in the area are always booked out, but this is by far my favorite place that I have ever camped. It is definitely the most beautiful and awe-inspiring place I could think of pitching a tent. There is something truly special about sleeping underneath a giant redwood forest, and this grove of trees is nothing short of amazing.
Ventana is probably the most expensive campground I have ever stayed in, partly due to the fact that it's privately owned by the luxury resort up the hill, and because it's Big Sur where camping is pricey even at the public campgrounds. But for the price, you get to camp in a beautiful setting that is very well maintained, that has probably the nicest/cleanest camp bathroom I have ever seen. Seriously, the bathrooms are actually pretty nice and they have showers. (Pro tip: Use the bathrooms in the lower loop because they have individual single rooms with showers where you can be alone. The bathrooms in the upper loops have showers in the shared bathroom space.) Firewood and shower tokens can be purchased from the host, and they sometimes even drive around in golf carts to your site with wood and tokens so you don't even have to leave your site.
I will note one slightly frustrating thing about this campground: while you can reserve ahead of time, you can't choose your site specifically. But what you can do is write a comment in the reservation and request a specific area and that has usually worked for me. Some of the campsites are kind of close together with shares parking, but it has never been issue. In my opinion the better sites are more towards the upper part of the campground.

The grounds keeper, I'm pretty sure that's who it is. He's a douchebag. Rude, and not willing to work with us having a second car. Had to park the second one super far away from the campground.

Great family camping. The guys there are very helpful and it is a great place. Nice sites. Good water. Facilities are neat. And the creek and the trees are a treat.

Seamless experience. I literally came across the county and camped here for a night since I've always wanted to hit up the Big Sur area. Not my ideal trip, but on vacation I had to make it work.

Anywho, seemed to be well organized. Avoid hike-in site 1 if you can since it's right next to the water tower. But just past it is a small trail that's pretty peaceful in the morning. Photos of the walk are in the site description.
