This Hospital system is a disorganized mess. I don't have do much to say about the medical staff. The issue seems to be more administrative. During several health issues this hospital has taken upwards of 5 months to give me an appointment, resisted providing out-network refferals (requested due to their clear lack of resources), and has cancelled appointments with 2 hours notice (due to "not being able to find the equipment needed for the procedure" despite me contacting them in advance to ensure they were equipped to resolve the issue). I'm sure the actual medical staff is fine, but you'd be lucky to actually ever see them. I recommend seeking another health provider network that actually has the staff and equipment available to treat its patients.
My father had major surgery. I had to call multiple times to get information. First, they didn't call when he was out of surgery. Then, the nurse at the station told me she was going to call me when he would get to his room, which didn't happen. They discharged him the next day and didn't even give him a wheelchair. He had to walk out by himself! I'm the most frustrated that they gave him low-grade pain killers. For a major surgery?! - 600mg ibuprofen, 375mg acetaminophen? Now he's in major pain. Would the quality be the same if family members were able to come up to the rooms and demanded better quality care?
The only good thing that came out of it were the nurses in his care.
I know so many doctors in this hospital and I have been going to it for years but in the past year I met a new doc to the field Dr Nour Baker has been a blessing to know she is my new cardiologist and has worked hard with me to help me with my heart disease and many more things she has given me rides home she has taken my papers for me to my medical office she is amazing just amazing coming from a place out of the states I know how hard it is to be this successful in America today with all the hate going on . She is #1 in Chicago honestly you want to know exactly what you are going through what problems u have go to her. She does not ignore anything she takes all the time she could with you and she gives her absolute best to help you
I attended the Women's Center at Holy Family/ Presence Hospital - had a wonderftl experience. Everyone made me feel comfortable - received quality care. Maureen was fantastic- great follow up skills, answered all my questions, helped with billing issues, a pleasure to work with.
So I understand why such bad reviews. Id rather die than go here
If I could give no stars I would. Some of the staff during my mother's stay were rude, condescending and unprofessional. A particular employee named John Anders who kept his ID badge out of view while I was there but my mother found out his name later from another nurse, was very unprofessional and condescending . It's definitely not a welcoming experience and one that will not be forgotten. I even submitted my bad experience to their Patient Relations Department and the Director of the bad employees did not have the decency to return my call to discuss the matter (my complaint was submitted on 10/20)-such a bad reputation to build for the hospital. People come to UIC to receive excellent care and service, not mediocre staff that could care less about its patients. We are in the process of having my mother's care transferred over to Rush University Medical Center since they value their patients there. Do better UIC and train your staff to be more respectful and considerate!!
I have been going here since I was 4yrs old over all this place is very unprofessional. There are a lot of staff members that shouldn't have chosen to interact with people in this type of situation. If you happen to get an excellent doctor consider your self really lucky; I adored my geneticist Dr. George E. Hoganson, he didn't talk over my head, he always made sure I knew what was being discussed, got in to see him in a timely manner, and he knows his medical stuff. I didn't realize how lucky I was when I had him as my doctor.
I got very good nursing care from Joe in post op. He was so caring. Staff were very cordial, but long waiting time to see doc.
Service was ok, but when it comes to financial assistance. WORST hospital to go too. They offer assistance only for people with absolutely NO insurance.
So, my insurance pays only 80%, the rest is my responsibility. I got 2 separate bills one over $900 and a second over $200.
I have to pay it, because I had insurance and that covered the rest of it.
I work part time making only around $700/month( 17hour/week).
They don't care.
My husband was diagnosed with cancer in May, we got a lot of bills from Illinois Masonic Hospital and was able to apply for financial aid and quality and got a little portion to pay only.
Definitely won't ever go into this hospital, ever again. NEVER.😡.
The UI Health System is an absolute joke. Was referred to a doctor and was told I had to schedule an appointment 3 months out. A week before my appointment I got a call at 8am saying that the doctor had to cancel and it would be another 3 MONTHS before I could get an appointment. Beyond that, I have been told on 2 occasions that I would get a reminder of my appointment and never did. When I called to speak to a supervisor about the issues I was having, they said they would look into it and get back to me. I never got a call back and when I called to follow up there were no notes on my account. Bottom line: they don't care about their patients and I'm going back to Northwestern. The convenience of the location for me is far outweighed by the inconvenience of their system and their terrible service.
I want to publicly acknowledge the University's lung cancer surgeon, Dr, Massad . He is professional, friendly and most of all understood my condition.
Dr. Massad has a team of Dr. assistants; Lona and Cassie, who are equally awesome! They took into consideration my requests and helped me make the best decision for treatment.
I recommend this hospital's as well as their hospital stay nurses and staff.
Love it i love customer service they treat u so good I also love how dr care about your service and health i love it i hope I could work there soon
I can't believe there are health systems like this up and running. My mom got submitted here for emergency and after 4 hours of waiting with not luck and no body taking care of her. She was in pain, the nurse did everything she could but there was just one for everyone and dealing with the complaints. When I got there I can hear people talking about the amount of hours waiting. The response from the staff was that they are under construction, the interesante thing is that the last time we were there it took them as much and there were not in construction. It's crazy and this is their emergency department I don't want to even imagine how is the service if it's not. Worst experience ever. I'm thankful that I don't go to that hospital at all. I will die there waiting for a doctor to see me.
Horrible is too nice a word, my boyfriend was in for 2 weeks, sent home with iv antibiotics and severe infection, rush back after issues with his kidneys and liver and is back in 4 an unknown period of time! The team, and I use that word loosely, does not communicate, the patient is responsible to ensure proper medications, dosage and timelines are kept. Going on 4 weeks and NO ONE WILL SIGN OFF FOR HIS SHORT TERM DISABILITY OR PROVIDE AN OUT OF WORK SLIP FOR HIS EMPLOYER. I have called social worker numerous times, patient advocate multiple times and absolutely NO ONE HAS HELPED! If he wasn't so critically ill, I would bring him home now. Most disappointing, disgusting, stressful, unsympathetic facility I had ever stepped into. Unfortunately 1 was the lowest number I could select because they need a negative 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostrate cancer. I have been under care for close to four years. The teams of Doctors & Nurses are outstanding. Nancy Tow in Physical Therapy is one of the most comprehensive employees in the hospital. Ms.Garcia with the financial aid area has guided me through sevetal local, state, & federal programs which has put me at a comfort level for care.
The nurses are very rude and unprofessional, they left my sister in pain for past 4 hrs waiting on pain medicine after a emergency c-section. Then when I came up there and a nurse was sleep at the front desk. And then a nurse made a rude comment to my sister as she left out the room. My sister only recommended one nurse that was nice to her doing her visit. Terrible experience.
Horrible billing account service. They kept increase my balance without any explanation just as I paid off the existing balance. Very unhelpful customer service people.
I have experienced competent medical care, but incorrect coding has resulted in thousands of dollars overcharged. Accounts payable personnel including the top man have been extremely unhelpful at achieving resolution. I feel there is no concern for the overall well-being of people 'served' by this medical establishmentno call backs or returned emails despite doing back flips to get contact information. Highly stress-inducing experiences, and I have going to UIC for many years.
I love this hospital and medical center. Doctors, nurses and specialists provide very comprehensive medical care to patients. Overall outstanding care!
