It’s camping. It’s cheap. Uncle John is super nice. The people that wrote bad reviews went into it expecting too much. I have stayed here in a tent with my wife and 5 yr old, 3 times. All 3 times have been great.
Stayed here and what a disaster. Supposed to have a cabin but got out in #1 which is an old railway car. The kicker you ask? It is attached to the public restroom. The restroom is disgusting and this place has not seen a cleaning unit yrs
Hotels are cheaper.
We have been going to uncle Johns campgrounds on Elk Creek for about 6-7 years now. And it has gotten worse every year. Bathrooms are beyond disgusting and smell horrible , to the point you feel dirty AFTER taking a shower. The cabins are dirty, full of bugs and webbs. Beds are horrible , ripped up old plastic mattresses. Chairs / couches look like they were pulled from a dumpster somewhere. The outhouses are not maintained, so if someone opens the door , and you are sitting by a fire you can smell nasty sewage. And you rent the cabin for $65/night, sleeps 6 people, HOWEVER you have to pay an additional $20 per night per person over 2 people. So it cost more than staying at the marriott, and is outrageous. We understand that it is a fishing cabin and not a 5 star resort , but the place has gotten really bad and not worth what you pay. The location is great , and it has the potential to be a really nice place, but "Uncle John" needs to sell the property to someone who actually cares, is willing to invest in maintaining it and can make it a nice please.
First time at the camp ground. Loved it. John and Rebecca treated us like family and they didnt even know us. They were very accommodating to what we needed and bath house was very clean. Very relaxing for me to just walk around the woods and visit the beautiful waterfalls while my husband and son fished. Would recommend this place for a get away
Great place to tent up by the stream..had a wonderful time and caught some nice steelies..we will return hereafter reading reviews from others, doesnt change my thoughts of the place after i have stayed a few times already..Rebecca, who checked us in this last time is very friendly and helpful as well as very professional in the business aspect..i didnt expect much since it is a campground nt a hoteli was pleased..thanks!

Uncle John ( Your Cool )
My experience at uncle johns camp was the best time of my life. I have never seen a camp as family friendly and welcoming as uncle johns. His campground is always clean, never dirty. It's a camp ground not a five star hotel. But it's a five star camp ground. And for all the people who try and bash uncle Johns campground are wrong they are just jealous that they couldn't of thought of an idea as good as uncle John. And they are also jealous that they do not have as many friends as uncle John and how kind, caring ,helpful, giving and so many other traits uncle John is. And for that he deserves a five star.
IF you are looking for a place to park your camper while you explore Lake Erie, this place is fine, other than that, don't expect much. Bathhouse/ restroom was very small, and had no privacy. Office people were friendly enough, just more suited to their full time residents.
Nothing but good experiences at Uncle John's campground. We spent almost a year at the camp during weekends, Uncle John and the rest of the staff were always friendly, respectful and accommodating. Many great memories made with friends and family.
This is a hidden gem. I went seeking a year round campground. Although I'm still seeking that year round open campground in Northwest PA, I did find an awesome place to zen out. It's a quiet no frills pet friendly site. I met Uncle John and his family, they welcomed me with open arms.
I recommend them if you're looking for peace and quiet.
Don't listen to the reviews by anyone related with the large fishing group! Came here with my girlfriend, staff was extremely friendly & helpful, cabin was private and quiet (wouldn't have been if all were booked but I'm sure they'd help as much as possible). The facilities/cabin could have been cleaner, but WELL WORTH THE PRICE!! Over all, both of us were very happy with our experience here & plan on returning! Giving them such a detailed & good review because I almost let the negative ones decide for me. Not a worker/relative of any sort either.
Well I just started coming to uncle johns a few months ago. I really enjoy the place. Everyone, including Uncle John have been great! Looks like the whole group of 35-40 men who's reservation were messed up reviewed on his site to take his ratings down. People don't believe every comment you read on here. I think they are exaggerating , come and find out on your own. It's right on the elk creek, close to everything. If you want the Marriott , drive to presque isle. If you want the calm peacefulness of the outdoors. Give Uncle Johns a try!! And I don't work here and am not any way related to uncle John.
