This location has the worst customer service I have ever had, and the ineptitude of the staff boarders on the imbecilic with all due respect.

The experience:

Our reservation for a trailer gets moved the day of to this location in Waukegan.

When I get there the attitude is completely otherwise and the entire staff seemed annoyed at any and all customers. The last customers trailer electronics got fried too.

I gave them my confirmation number and the “lady” who claims to have been a teacher can’t even get the simplest task completed with every step taking forever. We have a whole conversations of where we are DROPPING OFF the trailer(read below)

Our confirmation email just had a city and state and no actual drop off location aka address. Then she condescendingly states that it is “ALWAYS on the email”, which I try to show her, but she wouldn’t look. I’m not sure if it was because she was illiterate or just being rude honestly. Then we give her an address that we have to look up. She puts it in the system and it denies the address and comes back withdrum roll the city and state ONLY.

So that was lovely and then has the audacity to say, “It does this all the time” which means it doesn’t always have an address. This wasted so much time

The reason why this is important is right before we finish she tells us that the cost will go up because we are actually dropping it off.

1. I was floored the whole conversation was about dropping it off. I MEAN COME ON!

2. Then I guess she tried to bait and switch us when the original reservation had has dropping it off.

After wanting to claw my eyes out in the check out process they blew our fuse for our U-Haul towing package. They refused to even look at it because they manager had to leave ( horrible service and weak excuse). They told us to go to the dealer even though it was a U-Haul trailer and electrics. The dealer wouldn’t be able to do ANYTHING. Lucky I work at a dealership and called their BS right away.

We went to the U-Haul in Grayslake and Dan was the best and helped us AT NO COST even though he was leaving. Go there andhe fixed it in 5 mins!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS INEPT AND BAIT and switch U-Haul in Waukegan.

Used this UHaul lovation before with no problems. Now, worst online reservation system EVER. Entered my order for a truck, got to the end & kept saying "truck availability & rates change by the hour/minute, please re-enter your order". Never appeared to let me complete the reservation. By the 3rd time I quit & called. Turned out I had 3 trucks reserbed. They gave me a $15 credit for my hassle. Great, that was fine. I ordered 10 furniture pads @ $1.00 ea. Pick up the truck, pads come in 6 packs only, told them give me just 1 six pack. Opened the back of the truck to find a red hand truck & another 6 pack of pads. After using NONE of the furniture pads, either ones I rented or those provided with truck, I was charged $10 for unopened, unused 6 pack of pads I ordered. They said the hand truck & pads already loaded in vehicle are for "customer convience". Wonder how much they would have charged me for using the "customer convience" items. Think I'll go to Penske next time. Very unhappy with poor UHaul service this time around.

Keep all options open. Inspect each vehicles ,record the miles and fuel and get a receipt at return also learn how operate the vehicle yourself.

Having used U-Haul for the past 21 years without much of a problem, this is definitely the worst U-haul I've ever dealt with. I had an appointment to have a tow hitch installed. I arrived to be told that "Yeah there's a couple of problems with that"
1. I've done my shoulder in and that's the most important so I can't do your install and
2. I don't have the proper install parts."

No phone call (because he thought I'd still be asleep - when I made the earliest appointment necessary), no apology, hadn't even bothered to see if he could find another install location. I now have two very upset kids because we can't take our new boat with us on vacation this week. Way to go U-haul!

We had a reservation to pickup our truck, we get there only to find out the truck wasn't there. Would have been nice to have gotten a call before driving there.

Complete lack of professionalism and accountability. Had a hitch install apointment, not only did I not receive my call from the mechanic for a confirmation but he didn't even know I had an appointment. Complete waste of my time with no reimbursement.

Convenient location and an assortment of boxes and packaging equipment available in addition to rental uhaul vans and trucks. Parking lot is tiny.

forgot my license at home and had to run back while they were closing. Gentleman waited for me and helped hook up trailer hitch in 7 degree weather. I would recommend this location.

We had a great experience! We reserved our van the day before our move and they had it ready for us when we came to pick it up. They were available to answer all of my questions. We had to extend our rental TWICE and they were extremely accommodating when we called in to request an extension. We had no problems and would rent again from this location!
